Making the larger asteroids support the plexiglas was a genious idea

You inspired me to do this myself, and I have a background in the Paint industry. Got Magnetic primer and some decent magnets so I could move my asteroids around. Tons of work, roughly 14 hours of painting between the asteroids and the base. Thank you for the inspiration!

That is the coolest thing!!

I play a lot of X-Wing, and you've honestly thought of everything! Like countersinking screws on the plexiglass, having the asteroids give the plexiglass strength! Also having the 3D asteroids the same size as the offical cutouts is pure genius. Very obvious that you are a fan of the game!!!

I'm working on a modular Geonosis board with 3D spires, going to do Hoth next when it's finished :)

This idea would also work well with 3D printed Death Star surface tiles in the box. Or a scale replica of the underside of a Star Destroyer with the docking bay centered.

I’ve been itching to do a Death Star one! The Star Destroyer is an awesome idea!

This is so beautiful. Maybe do a **very** light batch of both red and blue stars, just to add in a little more color to the starfield. I love it. Well done.

Since asteroids aren’t the only obstacles, what are your plans for the debris and gas clouds?
@markdickey Жыл бұрын
I think a 3D printer will go a long way in executing the debris clouds. Those I might just make as “tokens,” think chess piece sized. It would still sit on top of the cardboard piece, but wouldn’t be an exact fit on purpose. Since there are so many variations of obstacles, I think the asteroids would be the only ones I aimed to be the exact size. As for gas clouds, I really want to experiment with dousing cotton in a thin glue (to harden it up), then spray on some bright colors to give it the gas cloud feel. You could do so many things, it’s really exciting to dream up.

The ship bases may need some sort of anti-slip to help keep them from moving accidentally.

There’s actually a surprising bit of grip to the plexiglass!

I'['m surprised the game disdn't consider the 3-dimensional arena of space. With the stacking poles, we could have easily added a height move, which would have made 3D objects, which can also be laid out with height considerations, a thing. Last year I built a 14' N-scale train layout. I just got into X-wing (cancelled I know, so I'm buying up used ships) and am working on a series of 3x3' foam boards, painted, with dimensional objects, including one with a black hole.

That sounds awesome!! I always thought it would be cool to have a flight based game that used retractable radio antenna technology to quickly raise and lower ships

Have you played Star Wars Legion? It has the same streamlined and thematic flavor as Xwing but with that grounded wargaming feel that scratches the Star Wars itch differently, and has terrain!
@markdickey9 ай бұрын
Always wanted to! I have enough miniature systems to keep up with though. X-wing let’s me dive into Star Wars without spending too much due to the low model count
