In the french/german areas of the schengen treaty. There are a couple of abandonned border checkpoint post buildings at the borders. And usually, atleast with the bigger/more important roads, there are service stations for trucks, and a police station building or a customs house. But vehicules can just drive through if the police aren't currently doing border checks and if as a trucker you have nothing to declare at the border. Little tips for your highways, in Europe (western a least) we’rnt huge fans of to much bridges especially when we’re out of urban spaces. Our roads go up but not as a bridge and more one the ground, creating artificial hills. It’s subtle but it makes a huge difference ;)

@ernestcarpentier6 күн бұрын
@@khingtv6060 These "lakes" are always very deep pits used to excavate the enormous amounts of dirt used in the embankments, it functioning as a run-off basin is really just a bonus secondary function as we try to let as much water permeate into the ground in Europe rather than storing it up to dump it later.

The ring road is usually in the place of the former city fortifications. It's somewhat common to also see parks and/or rail infrastructure around there, like you see in Hamburg. Road layouts and architecture should probably also change depending on wether you're inside or outside that ring - though depending on when and how the city grew, and on WW2 destruction and rebuild, that can be more or less pronounced. In Hamburg, the difference is relatively minor, but in a smaller city like yours, I'd expect that most development outside of the ringroad looks pretty different to the old city center.

For the UK. I appreciate there's not a lot of space, so here's where'd I take inspiration from: - Southampton is a city on the English South Coast, it has some industry, but it's mostly known for it's Cruise Terminal. If you're on a cruise in the UK, most of the time, it starts from Southampton. It also has an international airport. The other thing it's known for is the walls, and they use to have trams go through one of the city gates (Bargate) - Bournemouth is a large town, also on the English South Coast. It's mostly known for it's massive beach and pier, so could be a rival for tourism with the French city. - For the lake in the middle, perhaps turn this into a National Park. The Lake District is basically known for mountains and lake, so walking trails are common. - For the connection with the rest of Europe, there's long been discussions about a motorway under the Channel to France, but this has never happened. Rail and Ferry are the only two connections. - Other places to mix in include Bath (where the Romans Bath are), Bristol (see the Clifton Suspension Bridge), Edinburgh (possibly make use of the Medieval Castle) and Folkestone (where the channel tunnel starts). - And call it Albion.
@NilWo6 күн бұрын
It'd be very very cool if you could do some sort of Eurotunnel connection between the two sides! Might be a bit large of an undertaking but a detailed & realistic eurotunnel would be amazing. (Maybe have it be rail & road tunnels to make it function better from a game perspective since people can't bring their cars into trains ingame lol)

There are only few border crossings in Europe. Between Germany and France there are none. On highways, therr is just a huge parking and resting station that was the border crossing before the EU began with the Schengen Contract. And on rural roads, there is just nothing. Just a sign

When you put a castle somewhere then you can use in the name of the city "burg" like Hamburg because burg means castle. Fun fact about Hamburg. Ham is an really old word and means meadow or bay. So Hamburg mean meadow or bay castle because in the 8th/9th century was a wooden castle structure in the center. The ring road around Hamburg follows the place where the old castle walls were from the 17th century, so so called "Wallanlagen". They got demolished after the French occupied Hamburg in 1814. What I think is a bit funny because in this playthrough is a French town nearby and Hamburg is an inspiration of this build.

Name suggestion: Marbeck It should be pretty easy to pronounce without noticable english accent. The name is a mix between Marburg (a town in central Germany) and Lübeck (a small city near Hamburg with a very similar vibe and structure). It would also totally fit the northern Germany vibe, as the suffix “-beck” is mostly found in the north and only rarely or even not at all in the south of Germany.

I would love to recommend a city with a name which ends in -münde. For example Doggermünde. Other real life examples are Wesermünde or Travemünde. The -Münde basically means that a river flows into the ocean at that point. Other endings for a city in which a river crosses into the Ocean would also be -siel. Real life examples are for example. Neuharlingersiel, Nessmersiel or Carolinensiel. Those towns end with -siel because they have a valve to let out water during the tide while the water is low on the ocean side so that the areas behind the dike can be drained.

I think the reason why the city is struggling so badly is because of the high taxes. It sounds counter intuitive but if you lower taxes people and businesses should move in faster. I also think a lot of your businesses are probably empty since demand is so low. As a final point garbage pilling up will destroy the efficiency of any building so your schools are probably not educating people and businesses probably don't have enough educated workers for them to make a profit.

In terms of UK cities to try - London is probably too complex to tackle head on. Birmingham is do-able in CS2, but is very dense and would be complex. Manchester might be a fun one to attempt - it has a canal system, heavy duty rail infra, and a tram network. The inner city is somewhat built-up to a similar level as the rest of this map, and has the sprawling vintage UK suburban hellscape feel that I suspect the UK asset pack will lean into (writing this before the pack comes out though). Or if you want a coastal vibe, maybe Southampton?

Hansa would make sense for the German city! It's pronounced exactly how it's spelt - Han-sa - and has some historical basis too, Hamburg was a free city of the Holy Roman Empire and was a member of the Hanseatic League (which was also called the Hansa in German), which was a trading League of several cities in the north of Germany at the time, it had trading outposts all the way from England to Russia - which at the time, was a comparatively far distance apart. Since the German city you've built has an emphasis on exporting, it'd make sense that it'd be somewhat significant in domestic and international trade, reinforcing the reference back to the Hanseatic League

In Europe, atleast for EU there aren't any "real" border crossings. On highways you can sometimes find border crossings to just be a fuel station with a small shop and the flags of both countries one example of that is Bunde Bad Neuschanz Border Crossing between Northern Germany and the Netherlands. Other than that small roads don't see much border crossings but instead just signs that you enter a new country.

Don’t know what all of them are like and can only speak about UK to EU or EU to EU but Western borders tend to have very limited border checks and facilities on highways and major roads. Other roads have none at all baring a sign saying you have entered/left a country. Former Eastern block countries tend to have left over border check facilities on their major roads that are no longer used e.g. Hungary, Slovakia etc. More modern roads and highways tend to have no checks at all

Id argue highways are very european! Germans are after all the inventors of the autobahn. There are plenty of highways in europe, every city basically has one. Definitely also add a highway to or through the (new) industrial area! That would make it a lot more realistic. As of right now your highway connection is on the other side of the city, meaning that all the industrial traffic has to go through the city. I recommend continuing the tunnel and letting it come up on the other side of the downtown and creating a highway connection to the industrial area. It would just make a lot more sense, and if possible and connect it to an outside connection making it not as much of a dead end (if possible, otherwise continue on to outer lying suburbs or towns). Visually it would also be really interesting as it really enhances that industrial look and adds to the contrast you're looking for.

Regarding the name. I propose Truthahn, it means turkey in English, the bird, not the country and it is inspired by the Hamburg inspired building, because hamburger, which is what the people of Hamburg are called is an American staple food, as is turkey and its thanksgiving soon, so… you know. I think you can manage the pronunciation. It’s a compound noun so you got two words to say consecutively. Trut- is pronounced trood and Hahn is the cock (the bird), pronounced with a long A as in clan, but with the soft H in the beginning like in Hamburg. Hahn is also a place in Germany, so while there is probably no place called Truthahn it isn’t stupidly ridiculous either.

Based on Google translate and using my urban Queensland accent (very similar to yours - I think you're from Sydney? I don't pick up the Melbourne e/a shift, the Adelaide posh twang, or the broadness of regional areas) I would pronounce it as "du coat." Du like do, but a bit shorter, and not like due.
