60-year-old retired electronics engineer and programmer here... You took me right back to my childhood when you hypothesized that LED might be attached with wires. You had me hoping it was, but my experience told me it was soldered to the PC board. Your idea of making his nose light up with it tells me you've got an engineer inside you somewhere. Whether you want to break a thousand more things to find out for sure is another question : ) Great job as usual.

Yep... you are officially amazing! I have a metronome like yours that gave it's life for the engineering cause. I never use it because it sounds like yours. AS old as I am, the one you grafted into Metrognome, (a fine name in it's own right I might say) sounds just perfectly metronome like. I have learned by many methods over the decades and for old timey music it always helped me. Best wishes on lessons! Old Timer Sam!

When my son, now 25, was a baby in his 'bouncy seat', my wife and I were part of a hammered dulcimer quartet. The little guy liked to kick his legs and bounce while we played and some members swore he was kicking in time with the music. We started calling him the metrognome. It's too tempting a pun. Nice job.

Great job. David Bowie did a record back in 1967 called "the Laughing Gnome" which includes endless Gnome puns including a "metrognome" whose name was Fred. Just a suggestion.

I love the idea of a metrognome. Maybe I’ll make one, too (with my own design). If I do, I’ll give you inventor’s credit- you deserve praise, not ignominy. If that flashing LED panel behind your gnome has a speed adjustment, you could use it as a metrognome, too.

You can give him a speech bubble so he says, "I'm a metrometrognome." That would make him a metametrometrognome. I was thinking you could add the brim as well as the band and buckle to give him kind of a Gandalf look. That's just me thinking, though. It looks great as is!

A hot knife is best for cutting foam or if you haven't got a hot knife a soldering iron would do a nice job, just make sure the room is ventilated as fumes are not nice. Keep up the great work. A finely serrated knife could be used to split your cone from top to bottom, and then you could use the same knife to cut half the hole out of each side. One cut to split the cone, and then four cuts in each half of the cone. Then tape or glue the halves back together.

Very cool. In case this helps, think of the slide thing like measuring cups, you set the tempo by “reading” the flat top of the metronome. So by matching the sliding thing to where the top matches the 90 line, means you are matching the tempo of the piece (say a half note = 90). Anyone who uses a decimal place (I.e. a quarter note = 90.8 beats) goes straight to the ninth level of hell.
