I created this video to show that Moritz Seider made Detroit Red Wings History yesterday. Seider Blocked 10 shots in Detroit's 3-1 win against Buffalo. This was a new career high for Seider. It also tied the most blocked in a single game this season and it was a Detroit Red Wings single game record since the NHL started keeping track of this stat in the 2005-2006 season. Seider has now blocked the most shots in the NHL so far this season with 206 shots in 77 games. This is such an underrated stat, but I hope this will get Moritz Seider more attention for his amazing defensive ability.

I have mixed feelings about all this shot-blocking. Mo is such a great skater and a dynamic 200-foot defender. I hate to see the wear and tear on his body. He's got such a long career ahead of him. Pick your spots, Mo.

In 241 games Seider has 557 blocks and 548 hits In 311 games Makar has 407 blocks and 289 hits Yet because Cale is a more offensive defender with 198 more points he will win buckets of Norris awards. Being Canadian too helps. There needs to be TWO best defensemen trophies awarded at the end of every NHL season.. Best offensive dman and best dman

Honestly, this is what the Norris Trophy should be mostly weighted on. Defensive abilities and offensive combined. Not who had the most points. Erik Karlson is fantastic offensively, but defensively...Paul Coffey also was a one trick pony!

Blocked shots. Means the other teams. Are getting chances. He gave the puck away like 6 times last night. One was after being hemmed in Ina delayed high stick from Buffalo and he went and touched it like a fool. He's good but he's making alot of bad plays too

@@achillesninja Given his age and deployment, he's mostly been excellent. If he got juicier zone starts and first power player time, he'd be pushing 60 points while still being a plus defender in his own end. The Wings have leaned on him like few teams have leaned on a young defenseman. Can't wait until Simon is ready to share some of the load.

@@achillesninja Wrong. Seider has 36 giveaways 39 takeaways this season alone. He is one of the VERY FEW defensemen who has more takeaways than giveaways. Like sometimes I think you guys don't even really watch games or just don't understand what a giveaway is. Seider literally skates from defensive zone to offensive zone so often. He's one of the most puck responsible defensemen in the league and if you disagree go look at his stats on hockey reference.

I mean, Lyon was a top 5 goalie at one point this season. He dipped because he’s not a true number one. Lyon would be a fantastic back up goalie. He’s played more games this year than he ever has. Honestly I’m surprised the Wings made it this far without a number 1 goalie this season.

I think his decision making got worse or the forecheck figured him out. In his first full NHL season he got away from pressure so much, but recently he causes a lot of turnovers. He holds the puck a bit too long meanwhile. Still, he`s a great D with a really good package.

@@Z0RDR4CK Oh, I agree. The coaching staff has changed his deployment in ways that diminish his counting stats. But even his ATOI is down to a career-low. Not sure what the long-term plan for him is. He seems like a guy who can handle 25 minutes a night. But we'll see.
