Great video! Suggention to build some Port industry at the base of the Battery Hill. I think that strong cargo ship port (warehouses, queys, boats, cranes with ship containers) can futher support this island as the main one. Let me to invent some historical background: cities with bigger ports became more influencial as more trade and indusry bring more people. Battery Fort already was mostly abandoned during industrial revolution (there was no military presence at that point) and people wanted to expand port industry. Also it's very logical to have some industry in close proxinity of Downtown, which now is more office/residential than industrial.
@donnysagala2 ай бұрын
24:08 You can make 2 old twin bridges connecting battery hill island with the island in front of it. This bridge used to be the entrance to the fort and to welcome special guests, but until now it is still functioning.
@jacobc.55572 ай бұрын
i think the elementary school in battery hill might be better placed farther away from the main avenue and industrial zone of winter to keep children walking slightly safer. you could potentially just move it slightly to the corner of amity and poplar lane, or to the other side of the neighborhood near the park to keep public properties together near the fort. great video 😁
@x0XAlcatrazX0x2 ай бұрын
The bottom of Bunker Hill, especially along Cypress, feels like a perfect place to add some of the low density commercial buildings without parking, along with perhaps some newer mixed use/high density. It really seems like a place that would have, especially when the old bridge was there, a streetcar suburb, and it would be a great spot to see that sort of younger and newer development at the foot of the hill of old row housing! You've been using Boston/Massachusetts as a lot of inspiration, but just going to shout out that Portland, Maine would also be a good place for inspiration as it is about as old as Boston, and definitely fits the vibes Easthaven has had.

Such a cool build. There’s a lot of forts in the coast and even on islands in Massachusetts. I’d check out “George’s Island” in Massachusetts as reference. You can take a ferry there. Also most very tall hills in Massachusetts were used as mental health hospitals with really cool architecture, most are now being redeveloped into condos. Like Danvers State Hospital. The idea being that the beautiful views from the hills and big windows that let in lots of light would help the patients recover.

I love your videos, I also enjoy a lot where you integrate zoning and custom, as I personally dont like when its just a lot of custom made, gets a bit slow for me, however I think how youve been doing it for this city so far has been perfect. Also for the name of this city, as its a kinda historical place now, with the fort and such, id recommend giving the fort a name of some historical officer (can be fictional too ofc), from just brief googling and not knowing civil war history very well, you got both Major General Joseph Hooker, and Major general Nathanial Banks from Massachusetts, so you could for instance have "Fort Banks", sounds pretty good to me at least. When it comes to the city name, I dont know what could be a good name, but something like "New Kirkwall" could work, as thats a major city in the Orkney island in Scotland, which has a similar ish landscape as this, though not as dramatic with the archipelago.

Maybe the middle of the fort should have a big satellite mast. Realistically because of the forts positioning against the bay, it would’ve been adapted for war time for WW1 and WW2. Or you could add one or two of the old style ariels back to the buildings since they would’ve had radios in them for the bots during war time.

Hey mate about your money situation, it could be that you have some city services that you built when you had the 'more jobs' mod enabled that is now costing you a lot with the new economy patch. I recommend looking over all your services and double checking how much each is costing you. If I remember correctly their was a school in Chowder Bay that had an upkeep of 200,000+ each month due to having 70 employees for a school of 1000 or something.

Beverley Hills looks amazing and the fort is very cool. For the industrial/business park is very realistic, i can imagine myself driving through it exiting the city, and i live in europe, but i guess this is universally relatebel😢. Lmao I just wanted to add that the name new Zagreb would still make sence for the city since the settlement the island is named after would have been abandoned before the Civil War.

@austinmarx47832 ай бұрын
btw the capitol of a county is just called a county seat. Also, the star fortress and other such bastion forts would have been largely obsolete by the civil war because of rifled artillery, so what they mostly did was reinforce seaward facing walls of important preexisting forts with earthworks or such, or sometimes they did nothing depending on the geography and hoped for the best. For a fort in Massachusetts, they probably wouldn't have considered it to be important enough to update it during the civil war, and they probably would have instead used it for another purpose like a prison camp or logistics or something. I'm just telling you this in case you care about your head canon.

You should call the fort district “Fort Adam” and the surrounding neighbourhood Adamstown. The fort and surrounding neighbourhood are located where the old English colony was and was chose as the hill provided an advantage over the Native tribes of the area. It was soon abandoned however, as the lower lying land near the coast was more favourable to start a small fishing village (later becoming downtown). The fort was instrumental in the Revolutionary War against the English as the hill allowed for commanders to signal other costal outposts of incoming British Navy Ships. It then fell into disuse until the American Civil war where it was used as an ammunitions store and hospital. Adamstown was then built to house injured soldiers and hospital workers. This was later densified as demand in downtown demand rose and became the area became gentrified. The Fort continued to be used for these purposes into the early 1900’s but again fell into disuse. The fort currently acts as a civil war educational centre, with neighbouring Adamstown being an up and coming area for Upper-Middle class citizens of Clearwater County.

(defunct)Saint John, again, But modified! Saint john was a fort built during the civil war in 1857, being one of the most unused, broken, and forgetten forts in America. After about 50 years, it got repurposed for residential use and just sat there. Nothing really happened until around the 70s when cities began to explode with popularity, and the island got bought out by land devs. Skyscrapers popped up left and right, and became what we know. The city name was inherited by the nearby fort.

The background story of the fortress could be that it wasnt necessary anymore because of geopolitical reasons. Like at some point it was necessary, because it was a colony in enemy territory, or at least was endangered by foreign powers. But it lost its purpose and maybe was converted into a hospital at some point. The facility was demilitarized. At some point the hospital was relocated to a modern building which was more suited to treat the wounded and the ill. The fortress was abandoned, and now, the city wants to make this into a tourist attraction and has renovated some of the buildings, but not all of them, and certainly not to a point where it was. They have a small museum and a souvenir shop and thats it. Everything else would cost too much without donations.
