"How long has it been?" "20 years" Well, 4 years, but in internet time it may as well be 20. I have been in an art rut for YEARS now, so finishing this is a huge deal for me. I hope you enjoy it!

I love that Telemachus is taller than Odysseus. Makes it funny to think that he's just shorter than everyone else

I love how you showed the conversation go from slightly aggressive to gentle when talking to Athena. I imagine Odysseus might have really wanted to lay into her for all the suffering he has endured and for the way she left him, but hearing Athena spouting the same dream Odysseus lost along the way... made him realize that while he has become far too jaded to make that world happen himself that he could take one step towards it by forgiving Athena and wishing her the best of luck in bringing it about.

Yesss! That’s exactly how I meant it! I can’t imagine him being mad at Athena, especially after he pleaded with Poseidon “It’s been 12 years - we’re both hurting from losses - maybe you can learn to forgive”. You could make the argument that his transformation in 600 strike is all-encompassing, but I choose to not believe that looking how gentle he still is with Telemachus and Penelope. There’s still some gentleness in him. At the very least Athena bailed Telemachus out several times so he must respect that.

@@teddywojtek I feel the same. Though when it comes to him pleading with Poseidon to learn to forgive I do also feel as though it is at least half Odysseus attempting to trick Poseidon. Odysseus by that point has begun to believe that Poseidon and Athena were right, that mercy is ruthlessness on oneself. Some part of him still clearly hopes it could all end peacefully, but I wonder if things had gone differently and Poseidon had accepted mercy in the final hour whether Odysseus would have it in him to accept it by that point. That maybe he would have taken advantage of that mercy and enacted ruthlessness if only to prove to himself that what happened to him wasn't his own fault, but rather just the way of the world. That mercy would always be met with misery.

Ooooh, I love that theory! I always felt he is so desperate to go home that even though he has mostly stopped believing in mercy he still tries it, because what is he gonna do against a god who drowned most of his fleet? At that point he did not stand a chance, so it was more desperation speaking and Poseidon still refusing as Odysseus was at his lowest most humble point is part of what drove him over the final edge

@ Gods, I love this story so much for reasons like this. Epic's telling of it is so filled with emotion, poetry, and symbolism that despite talking about the same minutes long song it is so easy to draw this breadth of understanding and empathy for the characters involved. For as much as you can draw about where Odysseus was in that song emotionally, you can draw almost as much from Poseidon or Athena as well. Truly a masterpiece. 🥰

This is so sweet 🥲🥲🥲 I like how you made Tele back up and is hesitant to let Ody closer, until Ody patches his injuries up dawhhh

Awwwh thank youuu! I mean Tele has just witnessed this man go on a murderous rampage, I’d be at least a little wary of his intentions at first.

You did such a good job at the lip syncing! Also Odysseus wiping Telemachus' tears at 2:32 was so sweet 🥺

3:14 Okay.. what's with short Ody? Like.. every animator has a trend to make him short. I can see him shorter than Posiedon, or other Olympians because.. God>Human.. okay.. Circe also makes sense, and maybe Eurylochus too. And it's actually cute seeing him shorter than Penelope, but... You made him shorter that his own son? That's criminal. 😂 And I don't hate it even a little 👍

Hahahaha such a fair point! 😆 I have several explanations here: - I am of the mindset that children usually grow to be taller than their parents (plus I am also in the tall Penelope gang, plus divine lineage) - Odysseus is known for his wit for a reason ;) - I wanted Telemachus to be almost like a lanky late-teenager - aggressively an adult, but still kinda babyfaced. But let’s be real, he might be Odysseus’ boy and sweetest joy he’s known, but that is a full adult man at 20 years old

There's a joke among the cast that Jorge, who voices Odysseus, is the shortest male member of the cast, so the animators make him short as a reference to that joke. That's why he's shorter than Polites, Eurylochus, Tiresias, etc.

In the actual Odyssey, Odysseus is quite short.

@@foolslayer9416 Wow, we got the artist's whole list of reasons, a joke aimed at Jorge, and to cap it all off, lore accuracy!

Yeah, if I remember right, OG Odysseus was described as being slightly shorter than average, but with broad, strong shoulders (which makes sense for an archer! 🏹)
