@@ToraisaJI do genealogy and I have to say that some times, no answer is the answer. I have a lot of insane stories about my family and I will share just one. My great grandfather was an abusive alcoholic and when my great grandmother died, he sold his minor children. I had a cousin reach out to see what I knew about our family. My cousin was not adopted, but he was abandoned by his mother. I was aware that my grandfather found all 13 siblings and they were reunited. He was such a mean person and we didn’t speak for 15 years. He hid family reunions from us and never let us meet all of them. We had reunited 3 years before he passed and I never questioned him. Helping my cousin, we had discovered that our family had a lot of problems and we both knew how much we were better off not being around. His mom abandoned him because she went crazy from the abuse and she didn’t even know that she had a younger sister and felt that everyone had hid her from her. But she had been living in a different state. I discovered that these people had killed others (a 7 year old child 😢 and my great uncle had stabbed his own wife for having to prostitute herself to get food because the kids were starving and he was in prison for robbing someone. So many horrible things about these people that I would have probably been fine without knowing. It helped me heal from the fact I had cut ties with my grandfather for so long and realized that he was protecting us from them. So, not in all cases, but at times, not having the answer we desire may be Gods way of protecting us. I pray for you to be happy and accepting of everything you discover on your journey ❤

As someone who is African and fascinated with DNA results videos, your DNA video was recommended to me by yt. I was further drawn to watch the video because of your beautiful melanated complexion and your pretty face. Before watching that video, I predicted that you’d definitely have a high percentage of Nigerian DNA and was pleasantly impressed by the fact that you are 94% African (Shout out to your ancestors for keeping it real.) However, as a result of watching that video, I became engrossed in your more personal adoption/voyage of discovery story. After watching the above video, I am glad to see that many of your previously unresolved questions about your past have been answered ….. although it might be me but I still don’t understand your explanation of how your adopted mum and your uncle are related to your birth parents. Your story reminded me of my history. In short, my parents moved to the Uk from Africa, married and because they were young, in a foreign land and pursuing an education, employment etc I was placed in foster care. Whilst I was in care, my parents “separated” which culminated in my mother returning to Nigeria. By the time my father and I went back to Nigeria, my mother had died. The sad thing was I have no recollection of ever seeing my mother. Or indeed any of my grandparents. Has it affected me? Who knows. I say all of this just to make the point that your “journey” although painful has allowed you the opportunity to confront and resolve certain issues. I suspect that you know that in some ways you have been very fortunate. Anyways peace my Sista. I wish you all the best.

Toraisa, I just came across this video this morning and I feel as it was a divine appointment from God. I am 65 years old and I just found my family through AncestryDNA 2 years ago, that’s right I met my biological family at the age of 63! What a journey it has been and you are so correct that no matter what you want to know who your family is, I cried so many tears over the years! I have been married for 39 years and we have 3 daughters and six grands, I have taught for over 25 years and I would feel empty because the spirit of abandonment was in me my entire life because I didn’t, know who my family was.😢 Also I was never adopted I was in foster care my entire childhood, I didn’t think I was going to make it, but God......I have wrote a book; called “El Roi, The God That Sees Me” and will be published soon! I wrote my story and what I tried to hide from has healed me because I can now see God in my story. Thank you so much for sharing your story and I understand the tears! I pray that you and your biological family can write a new story of love and redemption! God bless you sis!

Years ago, I was told about a guy who worked in a dry cleaners with my last name (which is an unusual name). I called him and we spoke about 2 times, then agreed to meet. The first thing this creep said to me was ' you don't look like how you sound, I thought you were light-skinned!' Needless to say, I spoke my peace and got out of his presence quickly and never saw him again. This happened in the late 90's.

It’s a perfectly normal thing to want to know about one’s birth family. It doesn’t take away anything from your adoptive parents. Children raised in their birth families take this for granted, but adopted children don’t. One woman who fought to give adoptive children the right to know about their birth parents and families was the author Florence Fisher, who wrote about her story as an adoptee in “The Search for Anna Fisher.” Ms. Fisher died recently, but many people have sustained her movement and succeeded in learning about their birth families.

That’s wonderful news for you that you’re related to your adoptive parents. As to where you come from, you DO come from your adoptive parents, in that they took you into their familial “tribe”, raised you according to their ethical and moral codes, and provided you with the fundamental building blocks to turn into the beautiful, pragmatic and wise woman you are today. I feel the same for my stepdad who took my mum and I in when I was five and provided us with security, stability and home but instilled in me with a moral compass while my mothers grasp of ethics and morals was a little more fragile. And i forgive my biodad for walking away because he couldn’t handle the prospects and responsibilities of parenthood, because if he didn’t my stepdad wouldn’t have come along.

Mrs. Robinson the lady who found you in her van is an amazing great woman of God and your bio mom knew it. The Robinson’s loved to help others in need and their community without a shadow of a doubt back then. What your bio mom did was wrong on so many levels and I am not justifying her actions at all. But she knew leaving you in that van she was leaving you in great hands. The Robinson family is a big family just like your bio mom family. Mr. and Mrs. Robinson has helped supported plenty families in need in pompano. Baby girl thanks to God because that woman could’ve left you anywhere besides in that van. But God’s goodness and grace didn’t allow it to happen. You was raised by two loving parents that did a fantastic job. You are smart, very brave and courageous something your loving parents instilled in you. You just never know how this story may help someone else. THERE'S too many people that don't want their children. Or abuse and reject them. This is not the child's problem, it's the parent's mental issues, and it's not fair that the victim should suffer for it. In your case, I think, it's made you a better person. Thanks for sharing

Beautiful! I can imagine what an emotional roller coaster this has been for you, but thank God that you have handled it so well and forgiven your parents. Both her adoptive parents are gone, I expect she will one day. Both she and her brother Both look like our bio family. The important thing is she is happy. Her brother wasn't. Hope he is at peace no. You are so fortunate. You could have ended up in an orphanage or the foster care system. Your adoptive parents did such a wonderful job of raising you and you have a great life, with or without your birth parents. Maybe you would have been miserable growing up with them and would not have been the amazing lady you are today. Really you grew up just the way you were meant to. I hope this experience reassures you that you are 100% OK. Now you can go on with your future without the nagging questions. My dear, you are truly great.

I’m so happy that you and brother met. Me and my brother are soooooo close to include our relationship with our mama. Our mother found her birth father’s family with Ancestry. The father has pasted. We accompanied mama to her first family reunion in 2023. She has been welcomed with open arms Except for the 2023 yr her half-sister was not receptive. I hurt so much for my mama she is such a sweetheart and needed the Love from the father’s side. I only accompanied her for the 2024 reunion because brother was not able. 2024 was so much better for my mama. Her sister was a total different person. I Loved it. We sat and talked and took pictures. I was so happy for my mama. I Love her dearly.

@ToraisaJ my parents are both in their late 80's so I don't want to hurt either of them. My dad was in the Air Force and stationed in England. My sister's birth mother gave her up for adoption.
