I've always been skeptical of this "shortening attention-span" rhetoric, since devs like Edmund McMillan have went on rants about it 12 years ago (Vinesauce interview). I've been more fixated on FOMO culture, brewing around gaming circles, where gamers will complain about open worlds or long stories because they don't have time to play then all, especially from streamers. In Squirrel Stapler's case, "short games" could be pacing criticism? Who knows, gamers notoriously take things for granted. They should've expected a horror shitpost out the gate with that squirrel.png. Now if you excuse me, my game has been paused for 10 minutes and my lofi beats just looped and the TV is talking about some celebrity's death and I have 12 notifications to respond to...

I think once any game reaches a wide enough audience you'll start seeing contradictory bad reviews - too long/short, bad/good pacing, etc. Can't please everyone, although some devs definitely try.

youtube videos have never been longer than they are nowadays, atleast for the stuff I watch. If anything it's just that the range of acceptable media engagement has grown a lot

True, it's easier than ever to find whatever niche you're into now.

KZbin rewards viewer retention more than clicks, therefore longer content gets made to capitalise on it. Some content that should remain short, are inadvertently lengthened with filler for 5$ more, and it's difficult sifting through the rough to find something worth watching. I watched the 11-or-so hour Dr Who video twice and realised most of it was dead air and didn't assess the show fairly. The KZbinr read out the plot synopsis, unneedingly read out each character synopsis, and then said "Dr Who bad". So much long-form content does the same thing, and I wish to say - stop putting your opinion over the piece your covering, it's filler and distracting.

It's fun video idea. I also like to use the second screen during boring gameplay sections to watch tv shows \ youtube videos. There is, unfortunately, a lot of games nowadays with pointless backtracking or boring slabs of gameplay that can't be skipped \ sped-up to pad the total playthrough time. Also, I'm personally relieved to see you cut you hair. Lately there is certain trend going with people who grow out their hair like that for a long time... Which often leads to them makes their video hard to listen to. Glad it was just a hairstyle for you.

I think mindless grindy gameplay works decently with something else to watch. MMOs come to mind. Most other stuff I'm just focused on the game.

@@EphiTVYes. But nowadays there is a lot of grind even in AAA titles. Especially from Sony. Like collecting tons of trash for crafting necessary resources like ammo. Only Atomic heart had vacuuming glove that does this stuff automatically. Or grinding random enemies for upgrades like in mmo.

you look great dude, lol. 👍👍👍, to answer the end of the video, im deathly scared of what the youth might become, i think we need laws to prevent children from accessing this type of content like needing an id or smth to show ur not a kid cuz this is actually really bad for the future.the content itself isnt inherently bad or evil in nature or purpose but the way its consumed, laid out and pushed, its gross looking at that. i understand that even when some of us when we were younger (early 20s here) had tablets, ipods, or just screens in gerenal we never went overboard and consumed content to the point where our brain was rotting. i think its the fault of current trends and how people choose to view media and corpos just doing what the people want even though the systems in place like shorts content was made to capture your attention so it's everyones and no ones fault at the same time.

Funnily enough, 15 years ago people already did the meme of the short attention span, before it officially came to life. I remember a lot of people having turning their TV on, just as a background noise, without watching, some even said they liked to ads. Their explanation was that they needed noise, otherwise they get scared of the silence. Regarding the game, design wise, there was no reason to wait for god to come, and there could have been more things around the map to explore. That's why people some found it boring.
