So I started following that controversial TikTok video where that hair stylist said our 4C curls are dry and not defined because we use oil which blocks water and moisture from getting in. She said use only shampoo and conditioner & gel and that's what I've been doing for 3 weeks now and this is the first time i see curls. Here's the results: twitter.com/TheWalkingBritt/status/1376912575158497280?s=19

Well I’m 14 and I have quite a bit of shrinkage, and i took my locs down abt 2-3 years ago by myself, I had them since I was 6 and I lost abt up to 3 bags of hair, and I never really moisturized just shampoo and conditioner Cantù at that.. never really moisturized My hair for abt 2 years, still shocking how my hair isn’t dead or damaged or anything considering how much heat I would use to lengthen it, but I decided imma give up on the heat and start doing twist and moisturizing, the front of my hair goes abt to my eye if I stretch it the crown of my head goes abt to the bottom of my ear and the side hit abt neck length and the back of my hair hits neck length, I wash my hair moisturize it and stuff since all my older siblings have different textures or locs same with my parents so im starting my hair growth journey, I have very kinky coily hair and I am now starting to love my 4c hair that has 80% shrinkage also and also low porosity 😊

@virginiamontaldo4403 жыл бұрын
I think 'shrinkage' is a misleading word...if curls are coiling back to their set position, then it should be 'recoiling' or something similar. They naturally recede in length but also gain in volume and apparent density. They don't shrink like Alice in Wonderland. But then I speak theoretically because I never had to face this massive shrinkage because my hair is only weakly curly (I'm not black nor have coily hair - I just like the look of natural afro hair and for a long time I wished I had this gravity-defying power). Still from your old photo I could tell that your 'short' hair had actually much more in there. From what I have seen in KZbin videos many black women and girls don't seem to place much value in something that makes type 4 hair very valuable - the density. Even someone with type 4 fine hair and low density can look like they have a lot of hair. Even in your old photos, the ones with lesser density, I would have never thought you had low density unless you wore a 'scalpy' style. Btw, I think your hair now looks amazing and really suits you. Compliments to Fluffnugget.

Is some 4c hair more defined that others naturally? When you finished washing, I could see the coils in your hair a lot more than in other 4c hair I have seen. Others I've seen tend to look less coily and more like cotton? If that makes sense.
@demonte873 жыл бұрын
If you dont mind listening I have some advice about how to use brushes combs and when you can use them. First thing is my mother aunt niece and daughters all have your hair or a combination . what is so difficult about this hair is you cannot start out combing the hair at a certain length because of the strength of the root. most people only think of the root as close to the scalp but it runs all the way down to the tip of your hair. there are two ways to manipulate this type of hair if using tools or product. You must never comb or manipulate it in or after water hits it. you also should never comb it completely through in one continued stroke. the thinner the root the shorter the strokes. When the hair is wet with water or water base products it is at its most vulnerable . Your strains rise up away from the root and it will cause breakage. what you can do is put a styling non water base in your hair and then comb. this will help your hair lay down to be comb or bushed. if you do it with a conditioner you have to do short strokes with light to mild pressure until you get to the ends: if you get to a knot you have to finger spread it then continue. Also when you are starting from a big chop you have to train your hair by time. for example dont touch your hair for a week then 2 weeks then three. I believe 4 weeks is diminishing returns but you can try if your roots seem extreme strong wash and goes help with maintenance . This is only for the strength of your hair other steps for moister and curl pattern adds more steps to this process. but i think you have that under control. I know im a man but i have did research on this and used my family to help my daughters hair grow longer than she could on her own.

PS. Your length will show after your hair starts to get use to gravity meaning that the longer your hair's root gets the more it will naturally pull on the rooted scalp which will cause the scalp to allocate more nutrients to hold the hair root. This is what protective styles are suppose to simulate but because people put style over growth they over do it and cause damage. hope this helps .
