Where does he live? 'cause I live in a city and you can't juse "go outside your house" for fun, you only go out if you have to, there's no point going outside for fun if someone is going to stab and rob you or hit you with their car. Maybe if you live in a nice little rural town with 2000 people who all know each other and there's no crime, but it's 2023, in urban societies you go outside on the street sparingly, unless you're totally comfortable with being shot if someone thinks you looked at them the wrong way, which, surprisingly, ost of us aren't comfortable with, so you can't blame people. Like the actual privilege honestly, of living somewhere so nice you don't have to worry about gang crime and people driving on meth while you're trying to walk to the store, but understand it's not as simple as "lol go outside bro" in most parts of this world, there are even countries where you can't go outside at certain times, it's literally illegal. So not shocking to me at all, not even a tiny bit.

Facebook/IG ads don't have settings to target people based on things like that. There's a lot that's against their policies, and things like diagnosis are definitely not one of the interests you can select. These ads are most likely targeted based on age/school situation, and then the more you engage with them, the more you'll get. Also, you can go into your settings and see all the topics you're being targeted based on, and you can eliminate the ones that you don't want to be targeted by. Facebook is absolutely scummy but there's a lot you can do to personalize your "experience" on the app, people just don't know about it.

I actually learned a lot about having grit in my college prep class. A huge part of making goals is never to make them seem like you're avoiding anything. It's more about adding something new to your life. The human mind can't work on restrictions but it can work on new experiences. So if you want to be healthier for example don't make it about cutting out candy, make it about trying a new vegetable with your dinner meal. Sure, it might not be something you end up enjoying but supplementing out the old stuff by just trying something healthier for your brain or body is really what will encourage you to keep going.

You find the perfect place to put contour by sucking in your cheeks. It helps you see where the hollows of your cheeks naturally are and where the natural shadow would fall. Always blend upwards and towards the ear and the outer face because towards the nose, cheeks tend to be less sunken in. I hope that can be somewhat helpful for the next time you contour!

For me it was rooted in the fear that if I stop, I’ll lose track of the conversation and be outcast. Not just that I’d be left behind, but that stopping looking at discourse for even a moment would make me slip up and commit faux pass. Internet discourse moves so fast, and once something is decided everyone likes to pretend that they knew it all along. To not know is to show vulnerability, and once you’re vulnerable you will be cannibalized by the colony. What helped me is remembering that a whole world exists outside internet discourse. Even if I commit internet faux pass, I’m still safe, I’m still here, I’m still breathing. Nothing material has changed, and I have a support system of people outside of niche internet communities who also exist and breath and live just like I do. Remembering this makes social media feel much less urgent, and curbs my desire to open and scroll.

hey drew to take care of cat grass: water from the bottom every other day, keep in sunlight, and trim the top when it gets yellow/"frays". if u grow it from seeds itll last like 2-3 weeks and and if u buy it itll last about 1-2 weeks :)

the adhd 'wellness' app reminds me of when a psychologist said that my adhd will be fixed by making to-do lists and schedules and then charged the same amount !

Dude my first therapist I ever had said something similar and it’s so stupid lol. Luckily I have a better psychologist now and she actually helps me make a schedule and shows me how and offers practical advice. It sucks there’s so many shitty psychologists mixed with the actually capable ones

My psychiatrist told me he wouldn’t change my medication back to the kind I was originally prescribed and had worked for years until I started exercising. He forgot that I needed the meds to be able to plan into my day when I would exercise and also make sure I didn’t get sucked into a hole of figuring out the best possible running shoes to wear and then never exercise

Love the slight edge in Drew's humour when he talks about the predatory practices of wellness apps, the way they target the vulnerable specifically
@SeraphsWitness Жыл бұрын
Isn't that how all advertising works? Heck, isn't that how all PRODUCTS work? If you don't target those who need the product, then how do you succeed? It's like saying doctors are predatory because they target sick people for treatment.
@marsh.al.mel0w162 Жыл бұрын
@@SeraphsWitness I'm pretty sure they mean, y'know, targeting people with *memory problems* for a 7 day free trial that if they don't *remember* to cancel after those days it charges them a ton of money which they wouldn't recall spending and then these apps don't give refunds because the contract that no one reads says they won't. Its not really about what demographic they target, it's about what they do once they've caught the attention of those demographics; and what they do is specifically something that will harm the people they're targeting more than help them. That's what's predatory about the marketing/targeting.
@SeraphsWitness Жыл бұрын
@@marsh.al.mel0w162 A 7-day free trial is not predatory. It's a pretty standard industry practice. At what point do you hold consumers responsible for what they decide to purchase? Why blame a company for their business model rather than blame the consumer for making a foolish purchase? This is backwards thinking. There's nothing "predatory" about that. "Predatory" paints the picture of an ill-motived party taking advantage of someone who cannot possibly know better. Predatory would be setting up Pay-Day loan centers in low-income areas and charging 400% interest. And even then, I find it hard to not blame the foolish consumer. That's not what this situation is.
@marsh.al.mel0w162 Жыл бұрын
@@SeraphsWitness Personally I don't hold the consumer responsible when a company automatically starts charging after seven days when they try to get people who are likely to forget that they are going to charge. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that Drew said that the advertising and apps catered to those who have ADHD or the like or things that would lend itself to having memory troubles. Does that not seem ill-motivated? I don't know, it seems like that's what it is, a ploy to get money off of people they know will more likely fall into that trap. Not that none of the fault can fall on the consumer, but it still seems off to me. (Not trying to be rude btw that was just the vibe I got from the original comment so I wanted to add the reasoning I thought they might be using)
@raysofmariehere6441 Жыл бұрын
Thank you for highlighting the predatory marketing towards adhd ppl. When you have adhd the best way to remember things is to externalize them. In my experience apps just set me up for subscriptions I forget about. Signs, post it notes, other people’s support or a box 😂 tend to work better.
