Be very careful with abandoned APC's and Tanks in the desert area around AZ NV and NM. There are two A-10 bases in that area that use those kinds of "toys" for target practice. Remember this, the A-10 Warthog fires a Depleted Uranium Round. Even though the Uranium is depleted, it can still mess you up.

Excellent point. I wonder if planes still use depleted uranium in the tail sections? We had to ring radiation detectors all around the WTC Site in 2001 - 2002 because there's apparently no airline records of which planes still use that as tail ballast, and which don't. 😳 (Happily we didn't detect any spiked readings, so apparently those two planes didn't.)

I once found the same thing at an active base. Old planes and armored personel carriers with fake soldiers inside. It was really cool until the MPs pulled up. They told me that they had dropped cluster bombs in the area and some of them take days to explode! I got a $25 trespassing fine, but it could have been much worse!

Awesome re-visitation to this training facility, when I was stationed in the Army in Germany i was a driver and gunner for the M113 Armored personal carrier, but this one was outfitted with a 20MM rotary cannon anti-aircraft system, your discovery brings back lots of memories. Thanks for this awesome tour and I was nervous just watching you and your daughter, stay safe guys.

Hey Guy's, when you come on to an abandoned property and you're not sure if someone is inside....Stay in your truck, get close to the building and then blow your horn. If someone's in there they'll look to see who's out there and you'll be in your safe truck and can make a quick get away if needed.

If this is where I think it is, there is rancher that uses the water for his cattle. He also leaves provisions out for the guys who work for him if they get out there and need to stay overnight. The old APC's are usually targets for ordinance that has no charge put in them. The tents were sight targets for new style sensors and targeting computers. It takes some fine tuning for the sensors to pick up targets at 750 FPS+. In the Nevada desert we had some calibration targets for sonic wave generators. If it was important to the military, you would not be there, so I really doubt if there are any live grenades, but maybe a few dummy rounds. Do be careful of the African bees. They are nasty. Hornets can drop you too. Sadly the Military leave some pretty nice, but obsolete machines out to rot. I was able to buy a WWII tank retriever, nd it works as a log skid pretty good.

I say that vandalism sucks, like breaking out windows and stuff, but if you need stuff that you are going to use, and it is just sitting out to rot, that's cool, just don't break windows and put holes in walls, spay paint tags, unless you are an artist and create a beautiful or super cool mural, but tag letters are stupid and trash stuff. That's my opinion. I mean, I'm poor, and there have been a lot of your videos I've seen where there is stuff I could really use...why just let it go to waste?? But don't damage stuff for no reason.

A possible squatter on an active base? That's strange, to say the least; it doesn't resemble any type of training that I recognize. The base appears to be only semi-active; perhaps used only for certain training routines, most likely combat engineering or demolitions (12B). If the person staying there is a homeless person, they better hope that they aren't found, haha Nice job, I haven't seen tanks and apc's like that in 25 years. Seems that either those are part of a junk site, or they use them in testing, mainly munitions.

Thanks, it's pretty cool stuff, we could build bridges from scrap then blow them into toothpicks, lol! These people just going onto an active military base, especially through hidden back gates are risking their lives, the M113 and truck could be targets, I've seen attack helicopters and A10's vaporize those things in one TOW missile fire or a short burp from an A10 chain gun! We would drive downrange and look at the targets and there's really no trace of the missing metal unless you have a detector, then you get a massive hit from where the liquified remains fell onto the ground!

11C here. I was thinking of something like that at first, but there were no signs that it’d been used as target practice before, but betting that could change at any time. By the looks of it, I’m guessing maybe an old natty guard area for natural disaster relief. Seen a bunch of areas like that left over from Katrina in Louisiana that got set up, used once and abandoned. Most the stuffs gone but there’s a few things left here and there. That’s just a guess though.

The first vehicle was an FMC M125 mortar carrier. I used to drive one. Don't know the truck as I was Australian Army. But the third vehicle was an M133A1 APC and had its engine hatch dropped on the ground in front of it with the trimvane put back flush with the hull (indicating hasty salvage theft). These vehicles typically ran a GM Series 53 V6 diesel injected motor with a turbo. A great truck engine if it's free. Got this off Wikipedia: a Detroit 6V53 V6 two-stroke diesel engine of 318 cubic inches (5,210 cc)[29] with an Allison TX-100-1 three-speed automatic transmission. An auto thiefs dream.

That is a firing range. You can get shot. My husband is a combat instructor in the USMC. don’t go just walking around on a Military base. Especially in the woods around the base. 2 years ago my husband stepped on a land mind out at Devil Dog teaching Land Nav. There was a broken down tank and hummer near by that he was wanting to check out and THANK GOD the thing was so old and rotted that it no longer worked. He also finds old pineapple grenades all the time too. Ammo cans and grenade boxes are normal everyday things, nothing special, we use them to store our board games, and my husbands NOS stuff and to take his tools with us to motorcycle races. They are sturdy as hell and easy to come by. But you are in a firing range or one of their “towns” they use for training on how to do sweeps and using their night vision goggles. They stay out there 3 weeks at a time training each company, when they are done....the next company normally comes in after. Or that’s how it is for SOI E on camp Geiger. BE CAREFUL!!!! You don’t want to get caught trespassing on a Military range. That is bad news. Please be safe guys. Love y’all vids.

I haven't read all the comments so don't slam me too hard but you asking about the difference between the two carriers. To start the first 0ne you came to was a mortar carrier which was Troop level fire support. It carried a Four Deuce (4.2 inch diameter) mortar tube and ammo on a M113A1 carriage. The two look the same except for mortar and hatch. The second on is an M113A1 Armored Personnel Carrier. It was your mechanized infantry fighting vehicle. It carried an infantry squad into battle. Both and the mortar carriage had M2 heavy barreled 50 cal. machine guns. The APC Infantry vehicle had the 50 cal. as its main armament. The missing parts were more than likely scavenged off by raiding party of a parts detail. The cut belts were merely an ends to a means. In the military there were, are and always be times when budget constraints dictate that military companies and troops have replace parts on vehicles by any means necessary. I know because I have been on these details. What these details do is they strip off any part requested but not filled, parts that you think you'll need, parts that will eventually wear out. This usually happens around the time new vehicles are being introduced like in our case we were still using M551A1 Armored Recon/ Airborne Assault Vehicles and they were reconfiguring the Cavalry Troops. The Pentagon wasn't sure if they were going to go with M60A3s which were also due to be replaced or wait for the new Abram M1 main battle tank. The ultimately waited for the Abrams and the rest is history. There's no telling how many times those vehicles have been scavenged upon. Just think of it as an automobile recycler used parts are an economical method that saves money. It would be cool if you all went through the proper channels and did a show on Davis Monahan Air Force Base outside of Tucson Arizona. That's where the USAF keeps all of their salvaged aircraft and ones in mothballs. That would be a cool place to explore. In closing I never did see that's rabbit's leg you kept pointing the camera at.

So to clarify, 'abandoned' military equipment on a base is normally put out there because they are literal piles of scrap metal by that point. They have been so used up that there is no point in pulling parts off of them. Also the first vehicle you approached was an M106 Mortar Carrier, the second track was the basic M113 APC. But to all of you claiming that reusing parts off of these vehicles is a good thing? Yeeeaaah no, not really, if anything is left on those, it's because they've normally found that they've got so many of said part, or they've just broken down to the point they're no longer useful.

Awesome video! I’ve enjoyed every upload and livestream since I subscribed to your channel over a year ago, and this is my favorite. The bird was definitely some type of sandpiper, maybe a Long-Billed Dowitcher. The APCs were both on the M113 chassis. The second one looked like a personnel carrier, but the first looked like a mortar carrier. The circular platform on the floor in the back would’ve been where the mortar was mounted. Either an 81mm mortar M125 variant, 107mm (4.2”) mortar M106 variant or a 120mm mortar M1064 variant. Keep up the good work and stay safe out there guys.

You guys be careful. Those AAV hulls look like target material either for artillery, tanks, aircraft bombing or all of the above. You don’t want to be out there if that range goes hot or goes live. It’ll be a real bad day for you. Usually live fire ranges are cordoned off in some way but tweakers do occasionally wander onto ranges at 29 Palms Marine base (MCAGCC) or whatever it’s designation is these days. We find bodies of homeless druggies out on the ranges occasionally. Just be advised.

Not all of it gets "mothballed" like they did with the destroyer my father served on in the Navy. It gets dumped or buried. Money they might as well have just burned. I think the only way it woulda been a shame is if the vehicles/machines where in working order or pristine condition then vandalized them. Since they where rusting and decaying and if the person was gona use them then it should be ok. But it’s still kinda hard to say cause u do want it left alone to be explored😊

First M113 is the A2 variant, carries a 120mm mortar that pops out of the top of the hatch you stood up in, and attaches to the swivel point on the deck so that it can rotate 360 degrees, second one appears to be a true troop transport or med variant with the litter folded up to the back left, very cool. watch out for jets, most likely those are used for spotting because they arent torn to shit but still...if you can hear the jet flying overhead its too late...bomb was released well before you can hear it

My ex was army and that is what they do, salvage what they can. I see some old military guy fixing up his tank, that he keeps in his garage. hahaha If the military didn't want you out there, someone, quickly, would make sure you were gone and they would take your camera. I have seen it done a few times at Fort Hood Texas. Live firing range is always posted, I used to dirive the kids through them and get them all scared...hahahah

The first supposed APC wasn't one. It was in fact a Heavy MOTAR carrier. I've seen and asked about them.

I wonder if the tent belonged to a homeless veteran? If that veteran trained there, he/she would be familiar with the area and the approximate times the base would be in use.

Be careful going onto an active military facility, especially with how that's set up, the jets could be using those buildings and vehicles as target practice, wouldn't want to be exploring there and suddenly have a missile ruin your day. Also if its an active military facility you could get arrested for trespassing. I enjoyed the video but it's very dangerous to go onto an active facility, there could be active landmines too.stay safe!

The first APC (round thing on bottom) is configured as a mortar carrier. It's a small caliber artillery and the round thing is the base that hold the tube. The last one looks stripped out but could have been troop or ammo carrier. They have Detroit Diesel engines and the parts will fit on other equipment.

The first M113 would have had a mortar(4.2inch, IIRC) mounted on that turntable in the back. The second was just a bog-standard troop carrier. Does suck that they're just rotting out there. I'd love to be able to haul one out and fix it up. I know they're not the most exciting military vehicles on Earth, but it would still be cool to have one and fix it up, maybe do it up in Vietnam livery and take it to shows. Heck, I wouldn't mind having the truck either.

I think the Army probably came and got them parts part of our training was taking stuff off as well as replacing stuff because out in the field it is sometimes difficult to get parts so it's much easier to take them off or something that no longer is useful and as far as that pickle goes the funny thing about a pickle is once a cucumber becomes a pickle it can never become a cucumber again
