Any header/ypipe setup is going to hinder your ground clearance on these cars. If going low is a higher priority than sound/power, factory manifolds and ypipe might be a better route for you; the factory ypipe is squished flat in spots, like you mentioned. Sam Strano from Strano performance is probably someone you may want to talk to about your suspension needs. He’s apparently a big fbody and auto cross guy, and also has fair pricing for the parts he sells.

Thanks for the advice man! I may have to give Sam a ring. I keep seeing his name pop up when I'm researching suspension on these cars. As far as exhaust clearances go, I am thinking I'll end up having to fabricate an oval exhaust y-pipe but it appears that everything behind the y pipe should be able to tuck up a lot more than where it's currently sitting.

The original y-pipe piping was flattened for more ground clearance.

Yeah it seems I'm going to have to build my own y-pipe if I want maximum ground clearance and volume. I may try to modify what I have first though. It should be interesting

Nice undercarriage! I live in Ohio, and my daily driver Firebird has a lot of surface rust. I sanded it the best I could and spray undercoating on it every 2 years.

What kind of undercoating do you use? Like a wool-wax or fluid film?

@@DadModsMedia just the spray-in bed liner stuff for trucks. Just make sure everything is cleaned up and dry before you apply it. It does help some, plus it makes it look better.

@@michaelm3381 Ok yeah I know what you're talking about. I did that on an old VW I had many years ago. The Duplicolor bedliner is my favorite part's store stuff. The texture looks more OEM than some of the more rough textured stuff.
