Upholstery velvet quite often has a smooth nap and a rough nap. The smooth nap will look lighter and reflect light more. If you pet the nap down, you will see what I mean. Big thing is, if you have one big piece, doesn't matter what direction. 2 or more fabric pieces are where it matters. Just like satin has a direction, you will see it if they don't go in the same direction. Velvet will wear out differently as well, smooth or rough. You can also use a lint roller to go over it or a brush nozzle on the vacuum hose.

I work in a retail furniture store and we simply use a swiffer in the morning to dust the velvet items in the direction we want the nap to go!

That headboard is beautiful! I definitely agree you should stain the cubbies to create a more cohesive look! I'm not sure a beige background is going to look right with that headboard. Make sure that whichever colour you choose, the headboard is complementary. You put in so much effort and it turned out amazing. I painted my living room/dining room/entryway mushroom bisque and I love it! I have a stone fireplace and it took a while and a lot of paint samples to find the right color. I'm so happy with it and get a lot of compliments.

Omg, my husband is the same way about surprises. He cannot surprise me for nothing! 😂 He’s either so nervous about me _liking_ or _not_ liking the surprise that he tells me pretty much right away-just to see if he did a “good enough” job lol. *_OR_* he _knows_ I’m going to *love it,* so he’s just too excited and just can’t wait! Which, was quite literally, how our proposal turned out. As soon as he picked up my engagement ring, he put it in his pocket, drove straight home, walked in the front door, came right into the bedroom where I was standing doing my makeup…he got down on one knee, pulled the ring out (no box), hands shaking, and with the biggest smile on his face, asked, “Will you marry me?!” 🥰 No, he didn’t go all out and _plan_ a big proposal, but he was *definitely* _still_ able to _at least_ surprise me. -That day- ☺️😆

The husband inherited a lot of vintage Italian furniture (‘50s replicas of ‘20s furniture), and I had the couch and chairs reupholstered in golden yellow velvet (I promise it isn’t as wild looking as it sounds 😅). It has been surprisingly forgiving! It became base camp during lockdown and never got a break until this summer (when we moved and put it in storage). It got periodic vacuums with a brush head and I found that immediately cleaning it with a damp cloth got out anything spilled/splattered. A magic eraser is also handy for anything more stubborn (I use the ones from Daiso). This was the every day couch too, not just for a sitting room nobody was allowed in 😄.
