The audience was so excited to see Dylan because this was the first Starkid show he'd performed in in six years. Black Friday came out in 2019, and the previous show he did was Twisted, in 2013. So they were understandably stoked to see him back again xD

To answer some of your questions in the video… The new actors you haven’t seen yet are: Kim Whalen (Becky barns), Angela Giovann Giarratana (Lex), Kendal Nicole (Hannah- she is 14 in this show), Curt Mega (he plays a character later). You have seen James Tolbert in VHS Christmas carol (he plays the ghost of Christmas present and sang Christmas electricity). Jane (Tims mum who was mentioned as dead) was Emma’s sister who dies, she was the reason Emma came back to Hatchetfield before The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals. Emma does mention her when she talks to Paul about it. I’d say it’s up to you whether you watch nightmare time. It isn’t essential to the storyline to watch it and it is very long however is does introduce you to a lot of characters and some extra Hatchefield lore. I hope this helps clear up a few things :)

You're right about alternate universes. Tom's wife Jane was mentioned in Guy when Paul and Emma had their quiet sitdown. You haven't seen Lex, Hannah, Shopper with hat and Becky Barnes before.

I love Linda and Gerald so much. One of the Nightmare Time episodes is about Linda, and it might be my favorite episode. Your anxiety about the queue was so real. I remember when I lived in London for a bit, and they are definitely better at queuing than Americans… Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving. Back in the day, it used to be VERY serious - people queuing for ages, and there used to legitimately be a death count - because the sales were actually that good back then. Now the sales have spread out and gotten almost meaningless. (Some stores even mark up prices leading up to Thanksgiving, so when they “drop them” they’re just regular price.)
@alexandraparrow9863Ай бұрын
I'm sure this will be said lots but Jane (Tom's wife who died in a car accident) was mentioned in the previous musical - it's Emma's sister that died and she said she came back to Hatchetfield when she found out. Mariah was actually supposed to play Lex but she got cast in Mean Girls on Broadway and they recast her with Angela! And Kendall, who plays Hannah and Tim, is brand new as well! She was still in high school during this production and is the youngest member of Starkid. Curt Mega and Kim Whalen are new to you as well, Curt was the guy in line who attacked Frank for the Wiggly first and Kim is Becky Barnes. Curt started working with Starkid a while ago after he met Darren on Glee while Darren was writing the songs for Starship and Kim is his wife! Without spoilers, all the Hatchetfield things are interconnected in some way but the Lang brothers created stories for a TON of characters, even seemingly minor characters, in the town so there might be mentions of stuff from other shows. They actually wrote Nerdy Prudes Must Die before the other two so I think they kinda wrote everything all together. I hope you enjoy this show, I know it's a favourite for a lot of people! And just remember to be kind to yourself that any comments about you maybe missing stuff because a lot of us have seen these shows a lot so we know all the ins and outs of it while this is your first time! I think people just get so excited to show you their favourite parts that they forget you don't know what's coming! I watch starkid shows all the time and I'm still catching stuff for the first time after 13 years! Sorry for the apparent novel I decided to write here, I loved your reaction and I'm excited for the rest of the show!

Watching only the three musicals will seem like three different fun storylines with some recurring characters, and watching them including Nightmare Time makes them a real connected thing with lore and overarching plots. Personally, I will watch all your Hatchetfield reactions no matter how you decide. It's not an easy decision to be sure, because while the full story and lore gives so much to the musicals, Nightmare Time is also super, super long.

In Nightmare Time there is alot of context for this Universe and Nerdy Prudes (the third musical). So I would recommend to watch it before Nerdy Prudes. The context is really helpful there. But there are alot of episodes of Nightmare Time. They are worth it but if that is too much for you Nerdy Prudes is designed to still work without it. You just might not get every single detail. In my opinion Nerdy Prudes must die is the best SK musical. The music and also the story and the humor are so good.
@Eh_JayАй бұрын
Normally I wait for all the parts to be up so I can watch it all the way through with you...but I was just thinking I needed some Black Friday! I recommend Nightmare Time before Nerdy Prudes. You get a lot of lore out of the Nightmare Time series! And it was *technically* released to the StarKid Fandom first because of the pandemic...
@FluffyfoodogАй бұрын
I reckon it'll also fit this type of format really well, as most of the nightmare time videos are actually 2 20 minute episodes, so very easy to cut in half
@KiyotheConquererАй бұрын
In terms of the timing of the setting of the musical, Black Friday is the day after American Thanksgiving, which is always on the fourth Thursday in November. The Christmas Season is considered to “officially” start on the day after Thanksgiving, ‘Black Friday’, in which people start focusing on Christmas shopping (complete with crazy sales). Interestingly enough, Frank was correct about the meaning of the name “Black Friday”: It’s one of the most profitable days of the year for many retailers. But anyways, that’s why you’ll see so much Christmas imagery in the show. Hope that helps answer some of your questions!
@laurencole2937Ай бұрын
Second comment for the algo: In America, Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving. Recently, there's been a lot of backlash, because it used to be basically a one day sale, then it grew to the whole weekend, and now a lot of places start it on Thanksgiving day itself. Still, it's a good day to buy big ticket items like furniture if you're trying to save money. Also this is in part based on a real life event when people went absolutely feral on Black Friday for Tickle-me-Elmo. No one died, but people did get hurt. Also also, you are kind of right about things not being cheaper, lol. Some things are, but other things the stores either raise prices before BF so they can slash them for the sale (back to the original price). Other times they just change the labels so it LOOKS like they changed the price. Sometimes it is a genuine sale though, you just have to pay attention
@charcharcharlieeeАй бұрын
I love your reactions! There are several actors you hadn't met yet in this one, Curt Mega(He was the one who first stole Wiggly), Kim Whalen(Becky Barnes), Angela Giarratana(Lex), and Kendall Nicole (Hannah/Tim)

Yay! So glad you're reacting to Black Friday. I think this is the best musical in the Hatchetfield series. Best characters, storyline and songs. I remember when I first watched it I was in tears in the first 10 mins because of the 'What Tim Wants' song. Dylan Saunders is so good at conveying emotion in his singing and this song is perfect for him. I first watched this about a week into the first lockdown so I think I was overly emotional anyway but the song still gets me now. Looking forward to the next part

Yay :D Black Friday is maybe my favourite, other than VHSCCs (which I'm still hoping will come to KZbin this year). BF has some great dramatic/emotional songs, choreography, lighting. This is indeed your first time seeing Angela Giarratana (Lex), Kim Whalen (Becky), Curt Mega (just ensemble at this point in the show), and Kendall Nicole (Hannah) (who I think was only 13/14 during this). Kim and Curt are also one of StarKid's irl married couples. And you're right Dylan wasn't in TGWDLM. Black Friday (2019) was his first StarKid show since Twisted (2013), which is kinda crazy to realise. As for whether Nightmare Time 1&2 should be watched before Nerdy Prudes Must Die...those series did come out before NPMD, and are worth watching, and I think you'd definitely enjoy seeing more of these existing _and_ new characters, and the expansion of the Hatchetfield lore...and there's definitely a moment in NPMD that won't hit _as_ hard without having been acquainted to some key players/lore. *However,* Nightmare Time 1&2 in total is about 13 HOURS long, so would take a long long time to get through, so _might_ be better saved for watching after everything else, if people don't want to be left waiting on seeing you react to the stage shows. (Not sure what people would prefer; might be worth a poll.)

James is also their choreographer and has been behind the scenes for a bit. Also Kim and Curt are married IRL. Curt first started off in an amazing show by Tim Can Bros (a shoot off of Starkid ran by Joey Brian and Corey) called Spies are Forever, this was his first project with Starkid and he has been part of it since. Mariah was suppose to play Lex but she got the part of Regina in the Mean Girls on Broadway traveling show! So that’s how Angela (who’s from Smosh) got into the show. Also I highly recommend Tin Can Bros!!

That is in fact why it's called Black Friday. Ledger books used to use red for debt and black for gained money. The day after Thanksgiving is when most people start Christmas shopping so most businesses go into the black, hence Black Friday. Also, Mariah Rose Faith (Zoe/Alice in TGWDLM) was supposed to play Lex, but she got the role of Regina George in the tour of Mean Girls so they recast her with Angela

I would recommend watching Nightmare Time *before* watching Nerdy Prudes - while Nerdy Prudes does work if you jump straight into it, Nightmare Time provides a LOT of lore about what's actually going on in Hatchetfield, expands on characters we already know, like Frank and Ted, as well as introducing some incredible new characters - imo it's well worth going into NPMD with that knowledge because it really makes certain beats hit harder

Saw a comment about skipping Nightmare Time so I thought I'd heavily recommend watching all of Nightmare Time before you watch Nerdy Prudes Must Die. There's loooots of nods to Nightmare Time in NPMD that add to your enjoyment and understanding of a few things. They're also all mostly well-acted and fun stories that add a lot of lore to Hatchetfield. They aren't musicals/stage plays but they do have songs that feature in the stories sometimes and also unique ending or opening songs to some of the stories. Plus seeing your reactions to it would be fun.
@krissmith800Ай бұрын
Sooo excited for this as always. Others may have said already, but a couple things. In terms of order, you can watch Nerdy Prudes next if you wish because it is the next full show in the trilogy. The reason Nightmare Time and Nightmare Time 2 is suggested is because you get more lore and characters and stuff that is brought back in Nerdy Prudes. Thus, the payoff is better since you get the jokes and references by watching the Nightmare Time stories. It's up to you though. Also, the cast is not 100 percent during this show. Sickness was running rampant at this time and they tried to keep going which shows their professionalism. I do think it was so bad though that they had to postpone one of the shows for the cast's health. This was also right before COVID so . . . Lastly, there are some new faces that were not in TGWDLM. Mariah was doing Mean Girls at the time which is why Angela is playing Lex. There is also Curt Mega and his wife Kim (the guy who started the riot and Becky Barnes), James (the guy who let Linda cut and has been the choreographer but first time on stage), and Kendall who plays Tim and Hannah. She was only about 13 when she did the show. Also, also, I won't say too much to spoil anything, but you may just be on to something with the timelines comment. 😉 The Hatchetfield Universe is complex and not everything is exactly linear. Hope that helps a little.

I would highly suggest watching both seasons of Nightmare Time before NPMD, as the latter pays off a lot of things set up in Nightmare Time. That and the presence of a certain group of characters central to the climax of NPMD and the lore behind them are only properly established in Nightmare Time.

@VeracityLHАй бұрын
Because it's 13 hours, aren't stage shows, and will will take months to gets through. And while it's not absolutely essential to see before NPMD, I think skipping it would cause great confusion considering that it introduces key villain characters of NPMD. Surely new watchers would be confused, never having heard them even mentioned before. I admire the creativity of NT and the dedication of the cast and crew. It was a terrific idea for continuing to create content during the pandemic, and yet not putting out filler just to put something out there.
