My best friend owns an AC shop and I’ve worked there when I was in between jobs. We braze the lines. Faster and less heat. But it would be a shame if the hose starts leaking at that crimp and you’re going to have custom hoses made like you probably should have done this time. It’s cheap if you mock everything up and just bring it somewhere to crimp the fittings. Just a heads up.

Taylor get some thick porcelain squares and aluminum plate to rest what you are welding on. The porcelain or aluminum will absorb a lot of the heat that is transferring to the hose. Probably wouldn't be enough for that rubber line but for future stuff it can help a lot. Especially if you are welding something thin to a thicker material. Love the projects you got and content. 👍

There is a ac shop in ocala that can put new rubber in your lines. When I lived there they made a couple custom limes for me.

If your having issues welding cause of heat just wrap it in a wet rag while doing it. keeps the heat away

Obviously I'm watching this a year after the fact, but I have the same swap (08 F-350 w/03 CR). I had the same problem with the turbo drain at first. The gasket was thin and brittle. I finally ended up just getting some thicker sheet gasket material and cutting my own from that. Been running it that way for two years, no RTV, without a single drop of a leak since. Also, my AC lines started leaking, but Northwest Diesel Conversions makes lines specifically for these in house. I've had that on for a year with no leaks and ice cold AC. Love the build, I'll be refining mine with a few things I've learned from your videos!

Just a suggestion to keep things cool when your welding. Wrap it with a cold wet rag, then when it gets hot from welding, let it sit there in the water and cool, then if the wet rag gets hot, throw it in a freezer or throw some ice on it to cool it off real quick again, then repeat. I did that to weld a piece for my friends motorcycle, cause it had rubber in it, and it worked pretty well.

idk if it would work out the same for TIG welding but when doing normal residential HVAC when we braze lines and have something close that we don't want heating up we wrap it with a wet rag and it works pretty good.

Being such an optioned truck you should have power extend and power fold mirrors...the extend button should be on the driver door panel and the fold is the knob for moving the mirror portion with it clicked in the middle which is where you have driver or passenger selection. I only say that cause you don't wanna break those motors, oem power fold/extend are like 900 per side...killer build

Was my thought too, never done it personally but a friend doing an engine swap in his Hilux had custom lines made. He basically mocked up all the hard lines, and measured the flex hose with heater core coolant hose IIRC, then took it to a shop and had them crimp the proper AC hose in.

I had a fuel tank that was full of water and I was brazing it... long story short, got to the corner and bang and i broke some ribs... I might of been fifteen at the time. I can appreciate what you are going through to have a super nice truck. Too bad Ford didn't offer the 6.7 in their trucks as they couldn't make them fast enough.

There's a British project called project binky, its a celica turbo 4x4 running gear into a classic mini, all documented on KZbin. When he did his ac lines he's used an fittings welded at earliest opportunity to the aluminium section of the hard line, and then to an an line. Means you don't have to weld near a crimped rubber hose at least

PlayDough and a bag of water. Wrap the part in playdough then sit it on under or between bags of water. use some foil to protect the bags.

That AC would be a huge pain in the ass to replace down the road when the rubber line fails and he needs to weld on a new line. He needs to do something IMO to be able to replace just the rubber line because hes not going to want to reweld on a new line to fix the AC.
