About Gold Shaw Farm: Gold Shaw Farm is more of a farm-in-progress than an honest-to-goodness farm. Our dream is that someday we are able to transform our 150+ acre parcel of land into a regenerative and productive homestead and farm.

Hey buddy, not to add to the pressure but yea you need to add another super to those bees. They need a super of honey for winter. And the super you have now will be full of brood. So please add a super quickly otherwise your bees may swarm. Speaking of which you need to look for queen cells when you do open them up (just in case it’s too late). I highly suggest you go thru your hives at least every 10 days (the time it takes to build a queen cell).

I bought a live-aboard boat for the same reason, to make a change that would reduce my stress. Guess what? The stress followed me. Some was stress that I brought with me and some was new stress. Stress is an unanswered challenge and those challenges are opportunities for growth. Nature won't tolerate a static system so everything grows or dies. Anyhow, your successes and failures are why I continue to follow your unfolding story. Giving up would be a disappointment. Get some supers on those hives before they swarm.

I had a random thought that you were walking through the weeds, and I was thinking, "I hope he checks himself for ticks!" And then I realized, "Oh, no, he absolutely won't have any ticks out there where the chickens are!" My current reality is that I can't walk in the grass at all where I live - there are so many ticks, and I don't have any chickens. Even three chickens would make it better, but I travel too much. So I am scared of the darn lawn, because I already had Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever about four summers ago, and I never want it again. You've done so well, I have followed your little farm almost from the beginning. You are doing a good job, and keep it up!

Morgan, you just swapped one stress for another. The bottom line of it all is that you are able to derive personal satisfaction of a different type doing with what you are currently doing. This time you are caring and tending to so many lives that are dependent on you for almost everything and that sir is very personally rewarding and self-satisfying. Yes, it is a different type of stress but if handled appropriately it will not kill you but lengthen your life in the long run! Everyone enjoys watching your triumphs and despairs your lows with you so you are never really alone whilst it may feel like it as we are with you! Farming is the greatest struggle I know of personally. It makes you believe in miracles and believe that God has forgotten you all at once. The joys are illuminating and heartening the losses are devastating and hard not to take personally with a huge dose of self blame. My neighbours and acquaintances and family that have never farmed have absolutely concept of the work involved. My stepmother came up one time recently and said well i dint see what keeps you so busy around here. As we are surrounded by animals and dozens of their babies , two houses one thats flooded 4 X needs wall to wall to wall carpeting ripped out.. ywobtrees came down one in a house one destroying a remaini g fence. . I'm by myself here. So it's even harder without my husband . I'm sometimes up from dawn to dawn . Things need fed watered cleaned constantly. They let you know when they are hungry thirsty etc... It's been a real struggle and I haven't had the time to stop and get to know myself either.

@@lisar.veneziano1517 I hear you, especially in terms of struggling to find time to get to know oneself better. I'm currently working on learning how to tend to myself, in terms of the need to have to time to breathe, appreciate, and reflect on myself, and I found it helps if I think of myself as one of the animals. What I mean is, if I recognize their special needs and allot time for it, why shouldn't I also recognize those that I have. This approach seems to be helping. It's harder to see yourself as part of the farm when there's no mirrrors around. If you have a pond, go stand by it every day : ) Reflect literally and figuratively ; )

Mental health is hard thing to deal with. But realizing it's a thing you have issues with is the first step in dealing with them. I have anxiety, depression, and ADHD as well as some learning disabilities. Before I was diagnosed it felt like I just wasn't good enough to do anything, because my invisible illnesses were always sabotaging me and the outside world told me it was my fault. After I was diagnosed it was like someone opened a window in my mind and let the fresh air in. I knew it wasn't all my fault. I knew it could be helped, if not completely fixed. And I knew life could get better. Good luck on your journey and don't be afraid to get outside help and to own your issues (whatever they might be). You can go easy on yourself and take all the time you need, I really think the cattle decision is rushed and is happening a bit too soon. In your shoes I'd wait something like two years still. Just to have most of the side projects done, make sure everything is running smoothly in the long run, and be absolutely certain the farm is ready both in equipment and resources for the cattle. 1. Build a 20x80 Hoop greenhouse for all your veggie needs, put a self watering system inside. 2. Build OR make use of that BARN for a watershed to get a ton of water. 3. You need to get MORE chicken's (20 -50) OR 150 ducks for meat. To eat and sale.

😂😜 I promise you Morgan, your videos show us that there's NOTHING glamorous about farm life. We see how hard you work with all your projects & construction & land clearing, not to mention all the animal husbandry. Farming is a non-stop grind & you never get a day off because critters need to be fed & watered daily. And there are so many decisions to be made about how to improve the farm as a business. AND you still have a day job, yes? But your videos also show the world what a meaningful & rewarding life farming is. Thanks for that. 👍

I really like how the titles of your videos doesn’t feel like clickbait. Like “why he left me” when the person is only leaving for 2 months not forever like the title can imply. It lets me know what to expect from the theme of the video and you’re really good at keeping the audience interested. It doesn’t take you forever to tell the story. I really like your style!

Hi Morgan! Sometimes we dont see what we had accomplished. But look at all those beautiful creatures you have. You give them food every day, love, attention and you even learned how to build cool homes for them. The Silky chickens l see them like your tourists or foreigners in your resort. You are all right! Don't doubt yourself.

I think you are lucky to live on a farm as it is , in essence, a spiritual experience daily. You are living with the land and Mother Earth. I think the You Tube channels are quite therapuetic with all the sharing, friendships made, self reflection and common experiences. You are doing great. 😊💖

Always work to be done on a farm. You have to separate the must-haves from the like-to-haves, and realize not everything can always get done. I'm down in Texas, and our heat and humidity has really put a damper on getting things done this summer. Our heat can go on through September, so it's frustrating. And, I've come to realize I can't do it all myself.

Since to some extent you're solo farming (I know you have help from your wife, friends, temp. hires, etc, but in general I mean) I'm interested in a video where you go over when you might have to start expanding the farm to hire on someone full or part time to help with the upkeep of the animals while you focus on bigger projects. I have 0 idea if you're actually close to that point or not, but I have been wondering when you'd just have so many animals on the farm that you couldn't upkeep them and make progress on projects simultaneously.

This is our second year on our farm. The first year went fairly smooth. This year has not been that way. We’ve had loss, sickness, stress and overall mentally draining. Farm life keeps you busy and at the end of the day when you finally get to sit down and relax it’s all worth it

I hear you. I've never worked so hard before. I'm retired and busy all the time and tomorrow I'm supposed to get my layer chicks, weird chicks and guinea hens (yes I know what I'm getting into, I grew up around guneas), a total of 25 birds. Should be fun. The ducklings are 5weeks old and my two remaining chick hatchlings (unfortunate accident took one of the Three Amigos/as) will move to the hen house today.

I always enjoy watching your videos, I like the production value and your personal testimonies are interesting. I just got a broody hen last week, I put her in a "holding cage" for a couple of days and let her out this morning and she is back sitting on the fake eggs. Farming may not be what you hoped for; but it's rewards are priceless.

Farms and ranches are extremely stressful, especially in places that have harsh winters and a limited amount of time for breeding or building. You're farm looks great though, and all the animals seem very happy and healthy, so no matter what needs to be done or doesn't get done, I'd say you're still very successful. Farm/ranch life isn't for everyone, and that's okay, but I can say, without any doubt, that I would never move back to a city. ;)
