I have been so close to getting scent bird (and using JAIMEFRENCH at checkout, duh) but I don't see Mugler on their app. Like I've even made an account and installed their app on my phone looking... and that's an expensive brand I REALLY wanna try before purchasing! That weirdness was part of the point. Her boss was angling for Josie to write a smoking scandal involving a cradle snatching teacher. Josie used this opportunity to "be" a teen without the hormone driven insanity involved in teenage drama.

@@melodie-allynbenezra8956 ok but like they coulda done this in a different way. Example: Sam finding out Josie is an undercover reporter early on and brings it up and they keep it a secret while working together to expose another teacher that really is a pedo. That would have involved a WAYY more natural relationship arc and opportunity of romance between Josie and Sam, while also giving her boss the scandal story he wants. It’s just lazy writing to justify Sam being the creep and Josie pining after him anyway.

It's crazy to think David Arquette's character could enroll in high school under a false name, take a 16-year-old girl to the prom while not wearing pants, get exposed for being a 23-year-old man, and then get a job working with minors at that same school.

I’ve done lots of studies on this kind or practice in show business, and since the 50s, many studios will usually hire 18 to 29 year olds to play these types of roles (though sometimes they can hire actors in their 30s) because young adults are far less of a legal hassle than minors are, even if the kids have lots of talent and are extremely nice. Plus, with underaged actors, they have to deal with limited work hours and having to attend school on these sets.

I hid the bullying from my mom because I was so ashamed (so the egg scene just makes me bawl every time). This movie validated my experience and made me feel like things could change someday. And I literally had the hot chem teacher tell me that I would have tons of guys into me when I was his age. I never noticed this before. So, me and my friends had this thing about David Arquette where he just seemed to be literally everywhere in the late ‘90s and we couldn’t understand why he was so famous. Anytime he’d show up in a movie, tv show, music video, etc we would all make a big deal about it and it became this hilarious thing between us. Cut to the summer of 1997 and I’m at a music festival with 3 of these friends, the Offspring and Foo Fighters are headlining, and just as the Mighty Mighty Bosstones leave the stage, some weird guy runs out onto the stage, grabs the mic, and starts speaking weird gibberish…but everyone is losing their minds. As this guy is leaving the stage, one of the band members announces “David Arquette, everyone!” Lol. Our collective jaws hit the floor and we still talk about it to this day. Strangely, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy played at this festival. The late ‘90s “swing revival” was so strange.

There's a weird double standard in this movie as well. Because she gets upset with her brother for hitting on a 16 year old but she's all flustered but a 17 year and happy to be asked to prom by him. It's so weird. And the teacher is so weird because he was interested in what he thought was a teenager and were supposed to ignore that

Okay but for real, WHY was Mr. Coleslaw actually at a night club where his students hang out?? And he was asking Josie about her age like he was excited about it? Red. Flags. Everywhere. 🚩🚩🚩 Edit: Also, he is on the ferris wheel with her talking about how he is still afraid to commit to his girl-friend, especially after five years? Even if this was in an age-appropriate setting, that's another HUGE red flag! He gave Josie her first kiss, but probably not her last. Just sayin'. And then his AUDACITY to be mad at her?? Exactly! Makes me we wonder who the other reporter is. This story is scooped and so is the story of her outing herself at the prom. I think it's Franco's character "Jason." A couple hints pointing in this direction are that his character tries a little too hard to fit in. He says "roofalicious" instead of "roofus" and has other moments in the film where he looks more like an awkward observer than a High School student.

@@housecat5958 The whole thing goes totally over your head if you are European of that generation. 16 and 23 would have sounded creepy to some parents, and definitely not to teens, not at that time. It would still be legal in Germany. So - the movie wasn't creepy at all from a German point of view at the time. Having been an unattractive teenager myself: yes, at least some girls who are unattractive wallflowers or bullying victims at 16 don't have that problem 10 years later. And yes, I wish somebody had told me so outright at 16, even if it was a male teacher. By now I am happily married, but in school, you think your social role never changes.

I'm kind of surprised that Jamie didn't immediately crack a joke about the whole "let's put glasses on an obviously beautiful girl and pretend she's hideous!" trope when we got to Leelee Sobieski's character.

Agree! I will never stop loving this movie. I used to watch this movie with my mom after we would rage clean our house. Lol We'd clean all day, then bake cookies or lemon bars and watch this, Legally Blonde, or Bridget Jones Diary. It holds that nostalgic and sentimental value to me, so it'll forever be a favorite. ❤

This was absolutely a VHS rewatch ad nauseam for me. Also Wedding Singer, Clueless, and Legally Blonde. Watched The Wedding Singer so much, my VCR ate the VHS and we had to buy it again. I had a MASSIVE crush on Mr. Colson and was so jealous of Josie. 😂 Also, Drew Barrymore just killed it in this movie. Absolutely aged horribly, Mr. Colson is a creep and Josie definitely gets weird with Guy, but her flashback scenes always get me. I cried every time with the prom scene.
