Yes, and it was -15 celcius, which isn't even close to the cold temperatures of Siberia in the winter. Places really in Siberia, such as Oymyakon and Yakutsk, are around -40 at that time of year

I remember taking it several times between HAV and SCU (or vice versa), when Cubana was still using them. While it was flying quite smoothly, I don't remember any tighter seat pitch ever. It was like squeezing 120 seats into a CR7. But for a short flight it wasn't that bad (as to the catering, Cubana was offering only a candy and a "refresco" - Fanta-like orange soda).

I wish I could listen to them, but I can't afford it, and I don't know if Noel will be uploading any of those entire flights up here on YT. The quality is so much better though; I'm sure of that.

Another great report, Noel. You are setting the standard for your reports rare aircraft, rear airlines off the beaten path. So you didn't have a hat in Moscow. Did you go shopping in Izhevsk? We flew on a Tu-154 and a Tu-134 during out honeymoon in Russia in 1984. Wonky seats, inedible food, instant coffee. Absolute luxury! 😊 The night train sleeper from St Petersburg to Moscow was a ride everyone should experience once in their life. 🤢

Thank you! Nice report :) They give you mint for a reason. I am too young, have not experienced Soviet Union. But, from my parents say, they give you mint because eating/licking/sucking the mint help you to unblock your ears apparently. Soviet airplanes were known for blocking ears heavily. It's just like with older Boeings.

I flew on the Il-18 to Romania with Tarom in 1984 to Mamia. I was amazed that such a thing could exist. Even in 1984. Talk about asking the rear gunner for the meal. But today I would happily pay for such an opportunity today. Spent the flight looking at the props hoping they still keep spinning and the flight deck was a visible through a curtain. Love another go today.

My daughter is amused at your Siberian adventures. My wife was stationed in Berlin as a cipher officer for some years and pre the Wall used to meet Russian officers for a chat and coffee. For these reasons she was fluent in Russian but when she met her chum in Siberia said chum had to translate as the locals spoke another language. The rest of us gave up anyway, so your problems were understood.

At first I was wondering why the retrowave music played on the background... but then I realized why when Noel said "back in time" about the cabin. That rear door looks scary in the flight. I remember flying Yak-42D in my childhood from LED to MMK and we boarded from the rear door. Quite unusual. But don't remember shutting down the 1st and the 3rd engines during the landing roll! :D Great video, by the way, nice content, thanks!

Should try and do a video on a Tu-154. I flew on Aeroflot Moscow to Kathmandu in 1993, it was a really great plane. Coming into the stop at Sharjah we did tight 360s at what looked like only 5,000ft or so (i can judge height well as a hang glider pilot). Never known that on any other commercial flight. From the tarmac as we exited the plane the size of that beast was so impressive. The anhedral also makes it look really novel.
