Happy new Year and I hope 2022 has been a great one for you. We're closing the year with an unusual flight, which travels from Mayotte to Reunion and on to Metropolitan France. All of those places are part of France (France treats its overseas departments as literally part of France, you see!), so this happens to be one of the world's longest and most unique domestic flights. The longest? Also French! Paris to Tahiti, operated by Air France and Frenchbee. Thanks so much for following me in 2022 - I have some big plans for 2023 and I'm looking forward to sharing those with you very soon! Really nice flights showing how far France actually spreads. There is an even longer domestic flight with a french lowcost airline called FrenchBee from Paris to Papeete in French Polynesia totaling near 16000 km. French Polynesia is an absolute gem of a spot where I had the chance to live in for a year so if you are looking for another bizarre domestic flight this is it!

One thing, Tahiti isn't one of the Departments d'Outre Mer (in other words, it's not an integral part of the French Republic, it is a separate subdivision). As Mayotte is one of these, then it's correct that it's route to Paris via Réunion does make it the longest domestic flight route in the world
@XavierLignieres
@XavierLignieres Жыл бұрын
@SiVlog It is still considered domestic though when traveling to a Collectivitée d'outre mer to Mainland France or a Departement d'outre Mer , as a French citizen you can travel between these only with your Carte Nationale D'identité and do not need a passport I know I have done it multiple times in the past the only problem is if you transit in a foreign country and need to leave the airport you can't without a passport but arriving from Paris to Papeete or Noumea or to Paris from there all I had to show was my ID card.

Corsair used to give great registrations to its aircrafts, there were 3 747's with registrations ending in SEA, SEX, SUN. They all had a different picture completing the livery, SEA had waves, SEX had a lipstick kiss, SUN had, oh surprise, a rising sun. And at 7:13 it seems Air Austral is doing the same with F-OMER (overseas in French is said outre-mer). It may just be a coincidence but there's also F-OREU (as in Réunion) so I think that when they can, they ask for a meaningful registration. Happy new year!

The A330-900neo is also beautiful 😍 Also I love the livery on that EWA 737-800 and the Air Austral A220 is also such a great looking plane in a gorgeous looking livery! Finally you mentioned at 15:09 that “Corsair a small airline goes up against the gigantic Air France.” 🇫🇷WAIT A MINUTE! Isn’t Corsair OWNED by the Air France KLM Group???? Does Corsair provide meal service in economy class? United flight 2, from Chicago to Honolulu is almost 10 hours, but there is no meal service included, as US airlines do not offer meals in economy on domestic flights.
@KyrilPG
@KyrilPG Жыл бұрын
Yes, snack plus meal on the day flights and dinner plus breakfast or something similar on night flights, for all Corsair destinations. It varies between destinations and and flight times but there's always something. And that was no small feat on the old Corsair super high density 747's with 580 seats ! I'm pretty sure there's some French or EU law or rule requiring airlines to provide at least some kind of food and beverages on flights longer than a certain duration. I can't see a French airline forcing the sale of water or snacks by not serving anything on a 10 hour flight without starting a revolution and the subsequent decapitation of the purser... 🤣 Anyway, beverages and food are free / included, but there are paying options for themed, special gourmet, prestige or signature meals by renowned chefs from destination islands. All special needs (diabetic, salt free, gluten free) and religious meals are also free / included (but must be reserved), except the vegetarian one that has a 15€ surcharge (or just go for the free Hindu meal).

@@Paul_Lucas Are these French Island part of Schengen? So technically I can fly to Madrid and we not get passport checked all the way in these islands if no passport check upon entering France from Spain.
@KyrilPG
@KyrilPG Жыл бұрын
@@kevinyao5658 They're not technically part of Schengen but if you come from a non-EU "visa waiver" country, you'll normally never be checked other than your ID at boarding in Paris (as long as you entered France or Schengen legally of course). But if you come from a country which needs a visa to enter Schengen, you'll need a specific mention "valid for La Réunion" on your Schengen visa. But given there are no passport checks from Paris to La Réunion, just the basic ID, as it is a domestic flight, it's pretty much open to anyone coming from the mainland. If you are from an EU or EEA (European Economic Area) country, there's absolutely no restrictions. You're just flying a domestic flight in France, a mere ID card will be enough to board the plane to La Réunion. No visa or anything required, whatever the duration of your stay. So it depends where are you from ? (The only place where they might tick would be in Paris at ID check before boarding, if you present a non European passport from a country that needs a specific visa. Other than that, it's really just a domestic flight. Also, Chinese and Indian nationals have a visa waiver program for stays up to 15 days in La Réunion but that's for flights coming from China / India if I recall correctly.

Changing at Paris between domestic (ORY) and international flights (CDG) is always a nightmare!
@KyrilPG
@KyrilPG Жыл бұрын
There are plenty of domestic and intra European flights at CDG. The purpose of ORY is not really to be a domestic airport but to be a point to point airport while CDG is the hub for connections between feeder flights and main international / intercontinental flights. That's why you shouldn't usually have a flight connection between both airports. Anyway, if you booked independent flights, or for some reason an airline or tour operator sells flights requiring a connection between both airports against ADP's advice, there's either a bus or the RER B line (accessible via a quick ride on the OrlyVal) that connects both airports. That's what's used by repositioned personnel and even if it can be a bit long some days it usually works fine. And soon there will also be line M14's South extension linking Orly to Paris center and Saint-Denis in the North Suburbs. (M14 is an express subway line)

Is it domestic as it crosses international waters and territories to get there.Where it goes from is domestic as is the point of arrival but not the space in-between!
@KyrilPG
@KyrilPG Жыл бұрын
Yes it is, you only need an ID card or driving license and not a passport. And these destinations are simply overseas departments, with the same legal status as the mainland, which is not the case of overseas territories. Would you consider a New York to Anchorage flight not to be domestic because it flies over Canada? Same here, just farther, you takeoff and land in the same country, with the same laws, same money... Passengers of those flights never enter international zone at the airport. A Paris Papeete flight would be indeed debatable as Tahiti is an overseas territory, with a different status, with mandatory stopovers in either Los Angeles or Tokyo and requiring a passport. But flights between Paris and la Réunion, Martinique or Guadeloupe are domestic, leaving from a domestic long distance terminal in Orly with no passport control. You board such flights just like you would for Marseille, Nice or any other mainland destinations. Just like flights from Canary islands to mainland Spain or Madeira to mainland Portugal, also domestic ones. Several US domestic flights fly over international waters and/or foreign territory and no one questions their domestic status.

The reason for this is explained in the video: due to the short runway at Dzaoudzi you cannot take off with a fully laden A330.
@goytabr
@goytabr Жыл бұрын
KLM used to do the same in Sint Maarten when it flew the 747 there, for the same reason. The runway at SXM is too short for a 747 to take off with the weight of all the fuel needed to cross the Atlantic to Amsterdam. So, it took off lighter with relatively empty fuel tanks for a short flight to Curaçao or Aruba first (in the opposite direction), refueled, and then took off again nonstop to Amsterdam from the much longer CUR or AUA runway. There are also other cases in which the reason is just that the flight is triangular: for example, American Airlines used to have a flight (now discontinued) from Miami to Curitiba and Porto Alegre in Brazil. It flew first to Curitiba (closer to Miami), then to Porto Alegre (farther), then nonstop back to Miami. And when Air France flew to Montevideo in Uruguay (it no longer does), it first stopped in Buenos Aires, which is a little farther from Paris. In this case, the plane flew back through the same path, but it was because the Argentine market is much larger, and it would be un-competitive with other airlines to subject the passengers from there to an extra stop when flying to/from Europe. The two cities are not far from each other, the additional fuel consumption was not very significant, and the market considerations outweighed it.

In Malawi, fly into the capital, Lilongwe, and take the short hop down to Salima on Lake Nyasa. This lake is pristine, 365 miles long by 52 miles wide. It has white sand beaches and wonderful scenery. Then, if time allows, head south to the tea region of Thyolo and Mount Mulanje, a 10,000 ft high granite monolith set amongst the wondeerful green tea plantations. In Zimbabwe, big game and Zambesi River scenarios at Mana Pools is a must, as is Lake Kariba, the world's largest man-made lake where amazing fishing and sunsets are legendary. Again, if time permits, head south to Gona-Re-Zhou, The Place of the Elephants, and the spectacular Tjolotjo Cliffs on the Save River. And enjoy!
