There are things you can take a safety call on with bikes and weigh up the risks, i.e not running mirrors, small lights etc. However when a decision leads to the risk of others it's a step too far. If a child ran out in front of Matt and he's got no front brake and killed it I would hate to think how the courts would react to that.

Depends what its being built for. As a road bike I'd agree you need a front brake for the safety of everyone on or near it whilst it's being ridden (Too many twats happy to pull out in front of ANYONE these days to risk not having one ), but if the most it's getting ridden are short hops from a trailer to a display area at bike shows, it's perfectly fine to go for form over function.

The bit at the bottom of the one fork is the Anti-dive system. The brake caliper was mounted on a hinged bracket that would depress that plunger when the brakes were applied and stiffen the fork to counter the front end dive. The adjuster on the other side was to adjust the anti-dive. It was a terrible system and there is a reason it was not around for long. Without a front brake it will do absolutely nothing. You also have the forks in backwards. The anti-dive fork would normally be on the left side with the adjuster knob facing forward. The nutted side of the pinch bolts should be on the back side. Looking forward to the finished product. Keep on keepin on!

Those collars need fixing to the axle shaft, the idea is the clamps on each fork leg clamp the axle, so both clamps and the axle nut need to fail before you loose the front wheel, the way you've done it only the nut needs to come undone, probably unlikely, but now orders of magnitude more likely to fail than it was, you are very much capable of achieving the holy trinity, Beautiful, functional and safe

you should have made some bowl shaped or wider parts to the axle spacers so that they covered up the bearings. you'd have to insert them from the inside of the fork legs, but it would shroud the bearing and meet your rotor block off plates much nicer and without such gap. it looks kind of funky having that giant looking hub with the rotor deletes, and then a tiny little axle poking through in the gap.

Given the circumstances, I can kind of understand the lack of a front brake. What I find odd is, it seems like more effort to remove the mounts, repaint the forks and then sort the wheel hubs covers as well as trimming the wheel down. Why couldn't you just buy the matching caliper for the forks and then space the disc to make it work? Less effort and more safety, to me it's a no brainer.

Not too many people with some history in custom bikes here I see. Remember all the extremely stretched Harley's aka "the easy rider" Socal customs. They all ran without front brakes. Even helmets where a big nono in that era of customs.. Nor did the old school high speed wooden oval race bikes(they ran no brakes at all) or dirt trackers for that matter. And It's not like it's a crotch rocket that will ever do 200kp/h. So even if he where to run it on the road; it's not that uncommon. The more you know..

Ltbookum I have 50 years experience of custom bikes. All kinds. Built dozens. All had a front brake. What you don’t seem to realise is a bike like Captain America’s was considered a joke even back in the day. No front brake is for posers. As for board racers and dirt track bikes...everyone’s going in the same direction, no blind old ladies at junctions.
