I feel like it’s giving me clarity on my own anxious and the happiness that can come with healing and growth. We must accept our own mortality and the lasting fear that comes with it. To find peace we face our own trauma. And we can live with it. And slowly walk backwards. Just quite beautiful.

To me it’s more about unresolved trauma and the consequences of not coping with it in healthy ways. The best example would be bottling it up and the rule about third parties. The bottling it up would be trying to slow it down but it won’t stop it. As for the third parties, it’s like when you don’t want to talk to a therapist because you’d feel like a burden.

You know the horror genre here on KZbin is saturated with talented writers. You would think the movie industry would invest in writing screenplays to make into movies. I'm SO tired of the same old thing. Plus here in the U.S. all we do is remake movies or take foreign films and remake them into subpar American version!! I'm so tired of this country for so many reasons but there is another one to bitch about. Also, before I get bitched out there is always some exceptions. Lighthouse Horror, you're a gem!! I love your stories so much that even if I do pass out I will go back and finish them later.

"the coat rack in the basement is getting closer" has been my go-to expression when you know you'll have to deal with something soon but you just try to ignore it and cope knowing full well it's gonna catch up to you sooner or later. Kind of encapsulates the mental torment and existential dread. "That's a Coat rack" is now an adjective for things like stressful deadlines you are pushing etc. Saying "Don't make this into a coat rack" sounds unhinged but makes absolute sense when you know this story haha. To me this one encapsulates a manic/depressive episode, trying to cope with trauma and finally learning to live with it, knowing you can never make sense of it all at the end... And that's fine. This story became one of my favourites and have re-listened to it several times. Encapsulates such relatable feelings with a side of cosmic horror while being strangely wholesome. I come back over and over again. Helped me make sense of my own feelings by reliving the stages of trauma coping. Thank you for the author and your amazing narration. 💙

Goodness, I loved this story so much! Thanks for narrating it so well. I specifically got youtube premium for this video to be able to listen while walking my dog! The story is the perfect metaphor for depression and mental health problems. Wanting to fight the feeling, not telling others about it, being "okay" while guests are over and actually want to spend time with them. And the intruder never really leaving... just poppin in from time to time. Wonderfully written, heartbreaking and uplifting all the same.

I avoided clicking on this one for a long time now, I'm pretty picky with stories. The title really threw me off because it sounded like it would be super run of the mill. Not only was this a fantastic 5 hours, it is going in my top handful of creepypasta I've ever heard for sure. The compelling story was truly brought to life at it's upper limit with your narration and ability to play characters. It is a show of a masterful author to be capable of writing such a long story that doesn't drag on for a moment. Thank you.

To me this story feels like an allegory for unresolved trauma and each the characters are the ways you cope for it. Mitch seems to be the unhealthy way of coping with it, with conspiracy theories, paranoia etc. Paul seems to be the healthy way of coping, by getting your life back together and to stop addictions like smoking or in his case drinking. Brandon to me is a mix of both, kind of like Paul, he transitions from Paranoia to eventually healthy ways of coping and handling his trauma. However, at the end, the thing coming back is like when you think you’ve got it under control and then turns out you didn’t because you lacked a crucial part: therapy. Since all of them think that getting a third party involved will make things worse, they won’t go to see a therapist but it is EXACTLY what they should do. They should not keep their unresolved issues to themselves, they should open up about it, while bottling things up is slowing it down it doesn’t stop the feelings from going away. That or I’m overthinking this way too much.

This was a really impressive reading of a surprisingly well written story. I'll be honest, I clicked on this expecting it to be crap. Most Creepypasta I've read / listened to have been poorly written and narrated even worse. This was not that. Your portrayal of each character was entirely distinct, but also very convincing - whenever Paul spoke, I immediately knew it was Paul, and he sounded like a real person. Same goes for every other character. I never had to guess who was speaking, and I never had the immersion broken by an overly forced voicing. I started out listening to this while I was playing a game, but it was so engaging that I stopped and focused on it. I listened through headphones with a blackout mask on, and it was incredibly immersive. Bravo, man. I hope this author gets published someday.

This is why Howie is disappointed when the Brandon doesn't know the word petroleum. Of course, you were not that far into the story when you posted this.

This story hits me in some way with the main character brandon it’s like he slowly lost his sanity throughout the story he was just minding his own business like every normal person and he was pulled into a complete death trap that he could not escape from I’m surprised brandon is even alive from all the literal hell he had to go through. It’s almost as if Mitch, Carver, And Brandon have seen and met each other before this cause carver acted as if he was very familiar with brandon like he had seen him before (Edit: I think carver was also the garbage man cause did you notice that they both spat dry on the ground)

This is such a well-written compelling story! I definitely subverted my expectations of a monster with rules to follow or it will get you! I was freaking out immediately when he broke the coat rack in half and after every other rule he broke thinking he was a goner but at some point realized that this was something completely different. It really puts you in the shoes of someone with paranoid delusions. And its brilliant! Shortly before i lost my grandma, she was suffering from delusions she was CONVINCED that the hospital staff was trying to kill her and had taken her to the basement of the hospital, and she had this “confirmed” bc the ICU was under construction at the time so some of the walls were stripped and had plastic covering them. It was kind of like in the story where a half truth can pull you back into the delusion. I really can understand now how ppl can get caught up in their own head. This story made me think brandon was suffering from a mental illness but also wasnt? Bc there were other ppl that were experiencing what he was? But were those ppl even real? I understand now that this is a story that cannot have an ending Bc paranoid delusions never have an ending. There will always be another clue or another evidence to keep bringing you deeper and deeper. I didnt understand this probably until brandon did. He was in the hospital and nothing happened he got better with treatment. Even though he still believes in the intruder he is coping with it day by day. Just like his cigarette addiction, the intruder will always be there he just has to manage it. I REALLY love this story. Tbh i feel like this is good enough to be made into a short film or a movie if done correctly. It has so many metaphors and symbolism that i just want to pick apart! I’ll definitely be reading more from this author!

I loved how the bear at the end pulled everything together so beautifully. And yes, trying to understand the unknowable is an exercise in futility. As Brandon said, we are here, we exist, we all have our own ‘darkness’ that is always be lurking in the background- and that’s OK too.
