@@diarradunlap9337 Your description of an "open marriage" fits (just check on the train wreck of Will in HIS open marriage with Jada). An open marriage is no marriage at all. End it legally because morally it is already ended. As in this case the unsuspecting or not playing outside partner is the one to get hurt. Run, boy, run! There is nothing else that can be done. (And her plans to make her baby her husband's baby is the plan of a devil. That marriage is done for!)

Indeed. AP is a victim of narc mom too, because he was lied to. And he didn't find out until AFTER she got pregnant. So yeah. Narc mom was awful to everyone. Now, I'm not an expert when it comes to open relationships/open marriages but I'm pretty sure that they should be mutually agreed upon. And it probably will never be what I want, but if others can make it work, I say, all the power to them. Just because an open marriage isn't a traditional marriage doesn't mean it can't work. But this was NO open marriage and narc mom is just an awful person (not just for cheating, but also blaming one daughter and getting into a physical altercation with another) and she absolutely deserves to lose her perfect life and family. As my father would say, you reap what you sow.

STORY 1: mom absolutely has no right to blame op. She made the adult decision to cheat on her husband, live with her affair partner by lying about an open marriage, and got knocked up by him. She can’t have her affair and her married life too. If it wasn’t for OP, this was going to come out of the shadows one way or another. It was best that Opie told her dad because if he found out any other way, found out that OP knew as well, OP would have been part of the betrayal. Even the partner threatened to expose her if he was a part of his child’s life if Mom went through with pretending the affair child was her husband’s so she just abandoned the baby. The fact that Grandma was in on it and they made of a dying of cancer ruse to cover up the affair is absolutely disgusting. STORY 2: Gaslighting and manipulation from the friend. one thing that’s really stood out to me in story 1 that i havent really seen anyone bring up yet - the affair partner was a son of a family friend (op even goes to clarify it was one of her mother’s friends). so this woman had an affair with a man she probably knew since he was a child - i don’t think it’s that far fetched to say that this man was likely groomed by her for a while, especially combined with the fact that she had to lie to him about being in an open marriage in order to get him to sleep with her, idk it’s giving me all kinds of disgusting. and then she attempted to manipulate him into giving up the child and probably had something to do with his decision not to tell her husband as soon as he realized he didnt know. of course he was still an adult when the affair happened and made his own choice not to tell the husband, and that was very shitty, but idk the whole situation just reeks of something very, very bad. reverse the genders of the mom and the affair partner and i feel like more people would notice how fucked up it is

In the beginning of Story 1, I actually thought that OP's mom was acting clingy and sad to her kids because she felt guilty over the affair/baby coverup, and guilty because she knew her actions were a betrayal to their whole family. But no, apparently I was giving her too much credit. It's not guilt; she just feels bad that she doesn't get to bring home her new little baby and pass it off as her husband's baby and play happy family without suffering major consequences. She really wanted to have her cake and eat it too, in like three different ways. She wanted her husband and affair partner, stringing both of them along. She wanted to have her baby without losing her marriage or kids' respect. She wanted to do all of this and keep it all under wraps so she wouldn't tarnish her reputation. What a scumbag. I feel sorry for the affair partner. He was being lied to like everyone else was, and she was really trying to take his baby away from him to pass off as her husband's (she must think her husband is a moron.) I actually wondered before if the affair partner was lied to, because if the mom was willing to lie about the grandmother having cancer, then she could tell pretty much any lie. The happy ending in my head is that the mom gets no custody and the family is still on good terms with affair partner and child, and the child is going to grow up surrounded by good people.

This is one of the worst things that can happen to a person and he deserved to know. You would have been betraying him too if you did not tell him, which would have made the situation so much worse.

Story 1: So mom keeps blaming OP for HER affair, then gets upset when OP said they wanted some distance? She begged OP not to do it. Why? If it was really OP's fault why is she upset at the prospect being cut off? 🙄 We all know the answer but mom can't even see how contrary her own actions are. She is that self-absorbed.

My mom caught my grandpa cheating on my grandma when she was 16 and he responded by calling her a bunch of slurs, a liar, and kicked her out of the house for "lying and trying to ruin his life" and my grandma was so delusional she just allowed it to happen. My grandma finally believed it when he left her a year or so later for the affair partner, never re-married, and my mother and my grandpa didn't reconcile until she was in her late 40's.

completely baffled that they ever reconciled at all to be honest. It's one thing to try to put aside a parent's bad behaviour and betrayal of your other parent, but it's another to forgive and allow contact with someone who called you slurs, turned your other parent against you and kicked you out when you were a child. He may have grown and changed, I don't know, but personally even if he had (which seems doubtful for a person like that tbh) I'd be happy for him from a distance and have absolutely no inclination to reconcile

1) Wow, what a messed up situation. Affair partner and the mom are so lacking in judgement and morals. The dad needs to be told. I feel sad for the collateral damage. After update: I'm glad the truth came out, sad as it is. OP has nothing for which to feel guilty, the problem did not cause the problem, it's all on the cheating, lying mom. After 2nd update: Ya, no way to recover from this type of betrayal. 2) I feel sorry for the friend for getting connected to a guy who was known to be awful, and I think OP is right to say this guy is not wanted at the wedding. NTA. This may tank the friendship, but considering her behavior and lack of regard for anyone else, not much loss. After update: Yup, good to end that former friendship. After next update: Glad OP told former friend what's what and gave her a reality check even though I doubt it will get through her dense skull. She is a big a POS as the guy she is now with, they deserve each other.

What an absolute mess this is! Poor OP. Poor OP's siblings and OP's poor dad.

It drives me absolutely nuts when women knowingly get with cheaters, and then immediately start acting like it's true love, and oh so real, and she's special, and everybody should be able to see that they're soulmates 🙄 It's only been 10 months since he got caught cheating on his long term girlfriend, and this chick expects everybody to forget all about that little accident and see him as a new person because he's changed..? Maybe SOME people could/would go for that, but certainly NOT his ex and her family! That's beyond ridiculous! I'm surprised that he even wants to go, and I'm shocked that she's willing to FIGHT for him to be there! This is her bff's wedding, and she's acting like the cheating dbag that she's been dating for less than a year should automatically be welcomed wherever she's invited! 😂 Girl, he's not your husband, you really need to calm down. This girl is going to have a full on breakdown, reeling from the shock, when he cheats on her. Or maybe I should say when SHE CATCHES HIM cheating, because I have no doubt that when he starts, if she even suspects, he'll deny it with some "of course not, baby, you know you're the only one I've ever wanted" bs, and she'll eat it up...

S2) People like to think if someone cheated on their partner to be with them that's just because they're better/so awesome. That's not what it means though. It just means cheater is a cheater and they will most likely repeat the cheating in the new relationship too. Don't really feel sympathy for AP getting cheated on at that point though first off they deserve is morally and secondly they were dumb enough to not see that coming. Amanda will get hers given time if she isn't already.

1. Honestly, I don't consider the accidental affair baby the worst part, it's that OP's mom abandoned her husband to move in with AP to conceal the pregnancy AND continue affair with a 6 month bang-fest. I suppose she gets points for not terminating the pregnancy. If only things were different... like there actually had been an open marriage... even an accidental pregnancy might be forgiven. With today's contraception and protection against disease, I think (limited) open marriages are gaining acceptance. Maybe not for OP's parents' generation or older (we are too set in our ways). Giving each other permission for an infrequent extramarital adventure (occurring in roughly equal measure) would satisfy curiosity and bring a measure of excitement to their lives. Ideally, marriage should be based on more than just mutual exclusivity.

Moving in with the AP was pretty bad, but I’d say the worst part is that the mother had an affair with the son of a family friend who is close to the age of her eldest child. This woman probably knew this kid as a minor, and who knows if there was some level of grooming involved. It’s all skeevy af though. What a rotten person.

In today's age, there is no such thing as an accidental pregnancy. This was her intentionally being reckless and the husband should get a dna test for those twins as well as the first husband getting one for his kid in england. SHE BRAGGED HER INTENTION WAS TO COMMIT PATERNITY FRAUD this wasn't her first time cheating, it was just the first time getting caught.

All of these folks saying how the mother is evil and a terrible person need to leave their basement and step out into reality for a few minutes. Name one person who would have immediately come clean after having an affair and getting pregnant, name one person who would not have been psychologically affected by giving birth and leaving the baby behind. This lady did a shitty thing, but some of y'all have no humanity. I couldn't imagine leaving my newborn, seeing it out in public and not being able to hold it, then again I wouldn't get knocked up by someone who is not my partner. But I don't see this woman as evil, nothing is ever that 'black and white' or 'this and that'. And no, I'm not a cheater and I've been with my partner for 11 years and 2 small children. I simply have some empathy for this woman, as well as her family. Ok, after hearing the end of this story this is another example of me opening my fat mouth and letting feelings spill out. This lady totally lost me when I heard 'she's trying to get whatever she can' out of the husband and when I heard she lied about being in an open marriage to trick that man into an affair. Throw that woman away.
