It's funny how BTS's music has an upbeat tone and the first time you hear it its like free serotonin but then you get curious, read the lyrics and are left to wonder about the real message of the song. And then comes the downpours of sadness and wonder the next time you listen to it when you are alone.... Anyway love your videos. I always look forward to it :))

Whalien52 was inspired by the story of this whale to explain the loneliness felt by many. The feeling of being unheard no matter how much you call out. This related a lot to how they much have felt as rookies, often cut out from broadcasts and ignored.In the end though they resolved to keep going, in the knowledge that one day they would be heard..just like the Whale keeps calling out regardless, hoping to be heard. ( NOT MY EXPLANATION )

the name of the song came from the whale called 52hz and the whale is called this because frequency level is 52 Hertz higher than any other whale other whales can't hear them at all so they don't make friends and it's really hard for them to find a mate so they spend most of their lives swimming to see if anyone can hear them

Imagine a singer that nobody can hear. bts makes a simile by saying that they can say many good things but if no one listens to them it is useless.It was at that time that the K-pop industry manipulated the media to erase their presentations and not appear on TV.also when they released songs with criticism of society and did not allow them to be presented because the people in power could be offended. like "baepsae" and "I'm wrong?"

Whalien52=Whale+Alien(alienation)+52htz (reference to the "Loneliest Whale" who sings at 52htz. BTS have referenced this song again in recent years & the Whale has become not just a symbol for them who started out small & ignored but now for ARMY as well. Because we heard them. We recognized their Hertz & became friends who uplift & support each other. This is why in videos like "We Are Bulletproof:. The Eternal" and TinyTan there is a Whale used to represent ARMY. It's a truly beautiful concept especially since Whalien52 is one of my favorite songs of theirs.

I feel you. And I feel the song. A desire to connect with people the desire to be heard or seen. To have a passion to create something and want it to have an audience on it to touch people for them to value what you've created to value you. I think this is such a human thing. When I first got into BTS it really was because they spoke my loneliness. I found that they put lyrics and words to my longing my loneliness and also give me words of encouragement to keep following my dreams or to get up when I failed and find a new dream or keep going. It's powerful to hear these things and let them touch your heart. I think some people think pop music or boy bands and they just shut down their hearts won't receive anything because they put them in a box and said that they can't speak to their soul. But BTS speaks from their soul suga and RM on separate vlogs spoke about how they write because they have to get it out or they go crazy. They write because they want to connect so deeply with other people so desperately. Even V recently spoke about the pain inside and how sharing it and lyrics somehow brought him peace and healing. So these are lyrics that come from the soul and are for us to receive with our soul. I appreciate your honesty and your openness thank you.

Hi, I’m so happy your listened and read the lyrics to this song. This one has always spoken to me the most, I even got a tattoo for it (I know, crazy) , it’s so sad, and so relatable, but it’s also hopeful, and that is why I love it so much. There’s many older songs that have very meaningful lyrics, if I can suggest some, I think you would like Butterfly, Tomorrow, A Supplementary Story: You Never Walk Alone and Sea (this one was a hidden song only available in the physical album but I’m sure someone has uploaded it on KZbin or something)

you'll get the whole context of the song if you know WHEN bts released this song. it was still back in the day when they were constantly stifled by the big korean entertainment companies, their own label being smaller being unable to effectively fight against any of it. back in the day when for most of their hard work they got no respect back just mistreatment. the lonely whale who sings on a frequency that can't reach anyone was an apt metaphor for bts' feelings at the time. they felt very much isolated in their own genre and industry. they had no seniors or peers that saw them as equals despite the fact that bts were outselling most. the bts army were the only ones to whom the whale's song reached. that's the story of this song. the metaphor is so rich and incredible that it's been one of my most favourites out of all i've ever experienced in music.

As of 2015 there have been recording of another whale with the 52 Hz whale. It has since been discovered that the other well has a damaged eardrum and it couldn't hear the other Whale calls but it could hear the 52 Hertz whale, which they also discovered has damaged echolocation systems. So even though it wasn't supposed to be able to find somebody to be with there have been evidence that it found someone.
