The 52 Hertz whale is the most elusive whale. It’s song is at a frequency that other whales cannot understand, so it is often alone.Meaninful communication with other whales is impossible.

So now you'll understand why BTS and ARMY have sort of adopted a purple whale as our mascot. :) It shows up in some of their music videos and they even sold a stuffed purple whale on their merch shop. 💜 Whalien 52 is a real whale that sings at 52 Hertz, a frequency no other whale can hear.

The only translations that matter are from doolset bangtan, which also include Korean colloquialisms, metaphors and the meanings/context. Most of those colour coded lyrics are mistranslated and oftentimes pure nonsense, especially from Jaeguchi and Lemoring. They usually just google translate and don't bother about accuracy; their primary objective is monetary views!
@OT7_DopeOldARMY3 жыл бұрын
Yes, this is exactly why people advise against lyric videos and promote using doolset bangtan instead. Some reactors read the doolset lyric translations before, some watch a performance (with or without lyrics), then pause and read the lyrics, others just go ahead and use lyric videos knowing they may not be accurate. My personal preference is for reactors to watch performances (most have eng subtitles and can be found by adding "eng sub" to the search term on KZbin, so that at least you're not totally lost about what the song is saying) because it is WAY more interesting to watch, then delve into the lyrics using doolset bangtan if they want to focus on the meaning of a song.

Thanks for doing this song! I’ve heard it numerous times, however as you know sometimes you fall in love with the song even when you don’t know the language. For whatever reason I never looked up the lyrics to this one, and you are the first reactor I’ve watched do this song. Thanks for looking up the meaning on the air. Now I know what they are saying as I sing and dance to this song while working in my hobbies( FYI I’m a retired 60ish old lady😃 who considers herself ARMY for these boys! Love their music, meanings and storyline. I would love to be their grandma!! Lol sorry I just get excited about learning a new meaning of a song! Thank you!!! Still would love you to do First Love by Suga!

You need to react to Let Go and Outro Tear, both of these were written during a time when they were talking about disbanding in 2018. Outro Tear live from Wembly has so much raw feeling during the performance. Let Go live stage mix, just the dancing and the feeling put into the performance, knowing the story behind the song, made me cry. These are the most amazing men, artists, song writers, dancers, performers, human beings period.

Great reaction, as others have said it is worth using the Doolset lyrics as you get the correct translations and then the lyrics just blow your mind. They are geniuses and worth hearing. It takes things to a whole other level. Of course, you can remain just on the surface and still enjoy their music, but to me you don't seem the kind to settle for that! 🤣💜 Maybe use the Doolset lyrics first with us and then listen to the music? However suits, I'm looking forward to more! Borahae.

FOR THOSE WHO DIDN'T KNOW The behind meaning of ""Whalien 52"" In 1989, scientists discovered a whale which sang at a frequency of 52 Hz (most whales sing at a frequency of between 10 and 40 Hz) meaning it’s calls possibly couldn’t be heard by other whales ..... I don’t take credit for this but a bts army explained this fully on her Twitter account, sorry I’m not that technical but I was going to send you the link. And yes it is a metaphor for BTS! This is just one of my favorite BTS song❤️
@vajang65483 жыл бұрын
because it has higher frequency than the vocalizations of most whales. Despite of its frequency, it kept on singing, travelling thousands of miles across the ocean.

Thank you for the video! Requesting Moonchild by RM, the official video has good english subtitles! Yeah, each translator will translate differently. Specially with BTS that likes to do word play... that's why we always refer you to doolset hahha it's not that we want to be annoying (sorry!), it's just that the blogger really does their research and even tells you when something can be translated differently! But yeah, if you don't want to do that DIAL and Zathy Farhani's channels are the best you can find on KZbin :)

When you listen to My Universe, the new Coldplay collaboration, listen for the lonely whale call at (0:17) and then again at the end (3:10) kind of signaling a reply "you are not alone". Nothing is coincidental in any of BTS's productions.

@T_Chiu3 жыл бұрын
The reason why this song is called "Whalien 52" is that (in case of no one knew this) the frequency of a normal blue whale is a 10 to a 39 and 39 is the max frequency a whale can hear up to. This whale BTS is talking about is this whale has a frequency of 52 and that isn't normal for a blue whale, so that's why they call it "Whalien" because it's 2 words combined together: "Whale" (animal) and "Alien" (an unknown specie(s) from far away.

One of the reasons why ARMY doesn't like the colour coded lyrics is because they are rushed and doesn't fully translate the song accurately and thus takes away from the overall impact of the messages BTS is trying to convey. If you want to continue to use them to get a gist of what the song is about that's fine but as you saw there are better translations that convey the meaning of their words/messages better. With Korean there is always room for interpretation when it is being translated to English, so seeking out other translations are great too. Doolsetbangtan is great because they translate the lyrics as well as provide cultural background information.
