What a creek! That creek looked like “Tenkara Perfection”! The 1st two “Tenkara style” rods I purchased a couple years ago was the triple zoom Dragontail Mizuchi and the triple zoom Tenkara USA Sato. While Tenkara USA rods fall into the more expensive category for a non-Japan made rod the Sato is a really/really nice rod in my opinion. It’s action is sweet. Soft enough to enjoy fighting small trout but just enough backbone for a “medium sized trout”(over 12”ish). Keep up the good videos and we’ll keep “liking & subscribing”! Neil from Texas

I still have yet to catch a tiger trout. I fish primarily in the the driftless area of Wisconsin and Iowa. Tiger trout are not stocked but they are very rare and naturally occurring. A nice variety of fish in that stream..

I notice that you have some difficulties setting the hook when the timber and/or scrub crowd the stream. One of the things that I was taught was to just lift my elbow to avoid setting the hook abruptly. I have found it useful also when conditions are tight in the fishing window. I hope this can help.

What a day! Please tell me your rig: which line and length, how much tippet and the fly/flies. Thanks much.
@AllTackleAngler10 ай бұрын
That looks like a cheetah trout (brook-rainbow hybrid). If you didn’t see any browns but you seen brooks and bows (and cut-bow hybrids), it would stand to reason that your patterned hybrid is a little more special than a tiger trout.
@SUVRVing10 ай бұрын
I think it stands to reason that I'd catch something that has been planted into the lake that this stream flows into (tiger trout) versus something that hasn't really been documented in my part of the world (cheetah trout).
@fishingthelist401710 ай бұрын
So rare that I had to look up Cheetah Trout, and I would have to agree. It looked like a Cheetah Trout. You learn something new every day.

What line are you using and how long was it? What length on the rod were you using as well on that Sato?
@blueridgeflyguy955110 ай бұрын
Tristan, how would you compare the Sato to the Mizuchi and Suzume?
@SUVRVing10 ай бұрын
The Sato is longer than both of those rods. The Rhodo is a more similar equivalent as far as length goes. But they all feel pretty similar. The Sato feels nice for its length. Probably a bit better than the Mizuchi, which can feel a tad stiff, depending on the size of the fish you're going for. The Suzume feels the lightest of the three. The Rhodo has a sort of in-between feel, between the Suzume and the Mizuchi.

@MrSofthackle10 ай бұрын
I’m guessing that the streams you are fishing are public waters. I’m also guessing that these little streams see very little fishing pressure which partially explains why the fishing is so good. It seems as though your black and gold kebari seems to be your most productive fly. I want to try fishing softhackles the same way you fish kebari style flies. I’m guessing you fish primarily by sight. Do you also weight your fliescso you can feel the strikes?
