This is an awesome reflection on the benefits of self care. It's not about excessive self-indulgence. It's about setting aside the time and space to attend to what you need for you and your health. That may look different to different people, and I love how you were clear about the intention behind your exercise in selfcare: it's not about torturing yourself into an unrealistic body shape to please others; it's about filling your cup first so you have plenty to give when life calls on you to take care of responsibilities. From a fellow awkward person, thank you Awkward Mom ❤️

This came at just the right time!! I’ve been feeling the same about myself, just not being as healthy as I was pre kids. But I’ve been so overwhelmed with my house that I’ve just kept saying to myself I’ll exercise once I can get on top of the house. Which never happens! Awww! You are so sweet! I starting riding a bike again after 30+ years. I was petrified! However, after a few weeks, I felt confident about not crashing into anyone or anything on the bike path. Also, I can now stop and start without wobbling and tipping over. Currently, I'm working on making sharp turns without going past the turn. That old saying "It's just like riding a bike" does not make sense to me. It was hard to get back in the saddle and shift gears properly, let alone stay upright. Nonetheless, after some practice, I am no longer petrified of riding and I feel so much better at age 67. So now, with that said, I think I will go clean the house. Thanks for your lovely story and inspiration.

I wish I could give you a hug. Tending to yourself with the care you tend to your child is a learned skill. No one knows what to do when they get handed that first baby. So you learn and you ask and you find people who are good at what you want to be good at. My children are grown and I can tell you that tending to my exercise/ meditation needs literally changed the course of my family and my life. Yoga with Adrienne is a really supportive place to start. Plus it’s free and you choose the length of time. If you only have a few minutes my physical therapist said do chair squats. It gives you the most bang for your buck. Good luck!!!💚

What your experiencing is normal. Once the kids get old enough to “help” it’ll get better cause it’s usually like your hanging out with a little elf freind while you load dishwasher, etc. then when they learn to read by themselves there will be less chaos as cute noses will be buried in books.

@@sam12587 I’m not sure that kind of perpetual fatigue is normal. I think she has a lot going on and wants it to be different. I always feel so overwhelmed and tired and then the negative self reflection sets in. “I’m a lazy person, I’m not a fun mom, I can’t even keep my home nice for my husband and kids, I don’t look nice, I hate all of my clothes so I might as well just stay in sweatpants all day, I’m worthless.” It’s hard and depressing. I feel guilty when I do anything at all for myself- even taking a shower because by the time I’m done the baby’s crying and my husband is waiting on me to feed her. There’s SO MUCH GUILT! I’m going to start this now. I need to work on me for once. I’m usually an all or nothing type of person but I need to learn that anything is better than nothing. 5 minutes is better than 0. Chronic sleep deprivation makes working out seem impossible. But this video has put a desire in me to try!! Unpopular opinion potentially in the context of this video, but I’ve found if my diet is poor my mental health, physical energy, and motivation is poor. To make exercising on a regular basis a remote possibility, prioritizing healthy eating is a must, especially when sleep needs aren’t getting met. Nonetheless, thank you for making this video. I was in the same position as you, but ironically, my solution was the exact opposite! I was struggling to make time to exercise, so instead, I started cleaning my house more (and just moving more in general). This lead to an increase in energy and now I feel like I rarely sit down, but I don't want to! Being active, even in just the form of tidying up, doing laundry, cooking, or actively playing with my baby, has been so beneficial to me--and as an added bonus, my house is so much cleaner! And like you said, now I don't feel guilty for the moments that I do sit down and rest because I feel like I've earned that time to myself (not that I have to earn it, but now I feel like it's deserved rather than simply "lazy"). Either way, I'm glad you found this for yourself! It's hard for us new mommas to get back to feeling good again. But I can honestly say that at this point, I have more energy than I've had in years, and I'm so grateful!

Honestly, this makes sense from studies you hear on brain activity from just walking, but mostly on personal experience the days I found myself doing an early workout I would be craving more movement and felt I had enough energy to blast through multiple workouts and what I saw other instructors do when I worked at a gym and be there all day. I didn't work out in the morning I would tell myself after work or later, but it just seemed easier to go home and eat. Some can argue others just have different natural rhythms and do better with night workouts but even when I did those I would have some energy afterwards.

I’m having the same experience. At 47 I’ve started lifting weights and getting my steps in and I’m feeling great and have even become motivated to clean 😮 Keep moving, so good for body and mind. Great video thanks 🙏 😊

I was pretty healthy, walking and exercising with weights but I went to the Dr. because I was always out of breath. This started a year of being told to not exercise until they found out what was wrong and many, many tests. I just got the results. I have a hiatal hernia that is protruding up into my chest cavity and keeping my lungs from expanding adequately. But, because I didn't exercise for a year I gained weight, especially in my upper stomach which made my hiatal hernia bigger and made me more out of breath. So now I'm slowly getting back to exercising. I'm 73, by the way, so I have to take it slow and easy at first. Great motivation video--thanks!

Ok I actually love this because I was exercising all summer long and felt great. Sure I didn’t see my body change much but my mood improved greatly. I stopped exercising after having a procedure done on my leg and I need to get back into it again! Thanks for the motivation 😊

Wonderful message! I would add that if exercise doesn’t seem to be helping , be sure to check in with a doctor. It was right after my last baby that I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, and getting treatment helped reset energy levels that I thought were just low due to a new baby and our busy family.

I needed this! I fell off the exercise wagon during summer and haven’t “found the time” to restart. And yes, the house shows it more than I do.

This is a wonderful video. Thank you so much. I had a hard time letting it go to work on my health because I’d get too overwhelmed by the weight of built up messes. But if I do just 20 minutes a day.. I think anyone can find a way to squeeze in 20 minutes a day. This video is inspirational and helped me to not feel alone. Judgmental people have made me feel more alone in this area. Bless their souls.

I've been feeling exactly like this after having my (now 7 month old) daughter. I know this would be so beneficial for me, and the only thing stopping me is my brain. Thank you for this.

Love your videos!! I found this with walking after I put the kids down! I was energized and I’d come home and clean for awhile before doing my regular evening reading or sewing or whatever I wanted to do. It’s been getting dark earlier so I haven’t been walking but now you’ve inspired me to walk in the mornings!!

I needed physical therapy and it made me start regular exercise to follow up. I was amazes to see I was suddenly being more aware of what I eat and, as you said, had moreenergy. When we begin to take care of ourselves, our bodies and minds get the message and the change extends to other areas of our lives/behaviour.

And here it is: juuuuuuuust the motivation I need! I do the same thing: when I have something important going that day, I make sure to workout first thing in the morning. Except I don't amp up my cleaning, I use that surplus energy on creative work :)

This was a refreshing reminder for me....the way you presented all this was so non judgemental it was like a friend was talking to me, and it really lifted my spirits! I'm 64 and close to retirement. I just have to remember I gotta take care of myself or I wont be able to care for others( 43 yrs as an RN whew)..... trying to hang in there!!! this comment is way too long sorry, it took me back to when my girls were babies, it was the best time of my life. You young moms have the most important job in the world. Enjoy your young children and love them up, because they are only little once!

Thank you so much for this! I definitely currently feel like what you were describing you were like before. I have a 2-year-old and I haven't really exercised since he was born, this is a great encouragement and push for me to start working out again. I even have the exercise video that you talked about!

I feel completely identified with your video, knowing I am not the only one feeling this way makes me feel better, I thought it was only me feeling exhausted all the time and with no motivation at all. Thank you so much for this beautiful video. God bless you so much ❤❤❤

This is such a refreshing, lovely idea! Your videos are always thoughtful, relatable, encouraging, and uplifting! This video has re-inspired me to do a 10 minute walk today! Thanks for the gentle motivation. Walking works best for me, I find the it is nourishing to the soul! I need to refocus on my fitness like walking and strength training! I have been doing Grow with Jo and Leslie Sansone walking videos here on KZbin. Grow with Jo in her weight loss journey video mentioned it is ok to be a beginner again, I like that quote. I found some others KZbin channels that mentioned there wellness journals like Mariane Cresp weekly fitness tracker video and well-being planner video, JashiiCorrin self-care bingo video, NPerfect Plans self-care planning video, and Breana kechelle fitness journal videos! I thinking of just using a dollar notebook, that will help with motivation for fitness and self-care. I also find Tiffany Shelton 12 week year goal videos helpful! Wishing everyone the sunshine and joy!

Well timed. I'm right there. Feeling tired all the time. My DH uses the treadmill nightly. I hadn't found the motivation to do even 10 min. I just enrolled in a walking challenge this week. Thank you so much for sharing this part of your journey. You're so very much appreciated.

This is a brilliant video!!!! I agree 100%. I have been walking hills and stairs all summer. I haven't lost any weight but I feel great! I feel healthier and stronger too. Thanks for the video.

You are inspiring me! I have been in a "lull" as far as physical activity for many months now. When I get into a regular routine of walking daily and strength training a couple/few times a week, I definitely feel peppier. I love the moment when I am walking up stairs and notice how much easier it is as my leg muscles get stronger.

I started exercising in February of this year after not doing it for….6 years. Boy has it made a difference. I noticed the exact same thing you did: more energy, feeling stronger, better sleep, and better mental health. My kids are early birds so I exercise in the afternoon while they have a rest time in their room.

This video was so helpful! ❤ I am a mom of 6 and my youngest is 4 months old. I am ready to start getting active again and feeling like I am starting from zero and so out of shape anything makes me feel tired. It’s going to be a slow journey but you’ve motivated me to take some me time and go for a walk today.

I love that you decided to start by caring for yourself first & seeing what good things might follow. You have given me an inspiration. Tomorrow morning I will get up & put on some cheesy music & dance, even if it's only five minutes to start 😊 and play with my dog 🐶

Thank you for this video. I relate so much to the first part! I started doing KZbin video exercises for a couple weeks a while ago but I stopped because my kids kept fighting and I kept being interrupted and it made me really frustrated. Lately my kids haven’t been fighting quite so much so I’m going to try to jump back in it!

This is so true. Exercising gives you energy, makes you stronger. But I wast at a point where I was near obese. My doctor warned me I needed to lose wait. I told her I’d been trying and in 2 years nothing has worked. The scales doesn’t budge. I was having some other issues and she suggested to go gluten free. She might as well have cursed my mother out. Lol. But I found the gluten free cook once eat all week book and tried it for a week and not only did I start feeling better, the scale started moving! It’s been 3 weeks and I’ve lost 12 lbs where before I was struggling with the same 2 lbs! 🙌🏼 Might be something to look into 😊

This was just the video I needed today. I felt that, the exhaustion from doing one thing but still needing to do so much more, and my home is a mess at the moment. So I will be taking you up on exercising 10-20 minutes first thing. Because I know me, if I don’t do it first thing, I won’t do it at all.

Deeper than the exercise, feeding into yourself is HUGE! I needed this reminder today ❤. Sometimes, always taking care of everyone else means we neglect ourselves. Intentionally caring for myself is a huge motivation to take care of all the other things that need my attention. We try to pour from an empty cup way too often.

Love this! I have been having a similar experience, except for me it was correcting an undiagnosed vitamin D deficiency! From that has naturally poured so much more energy and a MUCH cleaner house! Regular exercise is my next goal, and I'm hoping it jump starts me even further into a healthier, more active life (and even cleaner home!)

I’m literally watching this when I should be in bed, but I’m on the couch with a bag of chips. I planned to start exercising once the house was clean, but you’ve inspired me to switch it up and start exercising sooner than later. And I just so happen to have the 30 day shred dvd! Probably too intense for me right now tbh but I took it as a sign that this message was for me. Thank you ❤❤❤

Exercise is great! But I also found out that if you eat a whole foods plant based diet, and avoid eating refined sugar, you can feel absolutely fantastic and loose weight, too. I am also juicing a bunch of fruit and veggies daily! Heath improves, too. No ice cream for me! I have been craving watermelon and yesterday my husband bought one. I dove in and it was great! I know it seems extreme, but it is doable, and awesome. I love your fun videos.
