Hi Candace, I'm french, living in Paris and I just want to (try to) "explain" why you received that letter from Macron (which I don't like btw). Basically, he is used to be able to do whatever he wants in France for a decade now as he had rendered any other parties speechless by manipulation and scare tactics. The letter shows how much he believe he is "above" the common people and should be feared & adored: I'm not kidding when I say this, this is how he sees himself and it is how french people see him as well (that's why in the polls right now he is soaring at 17% ... the lowest since 2017). TBH, I don't know if Brigitte is/was a man ... won't change much of my daily life but the fact that you received that letter means there is something there. Could be the sex change (if there was one), could be that Macron is gay (which is actually a very strong probability) or could be the age of Macron when they started their relationship ... which definitely constitute a felony under French law like you said (Article 227-27 of the Penal code) which sentense can go up to 5 years & 45000€. I want to make a point here. A lot of people say "so what does it matter if Brigitte is a trans - nothing wrong with that". They are right. Nothing wrong with being trans (maybe). But whatever you think of it, it is a personal choice. But voting for a president who is married to a trans is the PEOPLE's choice. What is very WRONG is keeping it a secret because THE PEOPLE of any country have a right to vote for their representatives based on their own values. If the running candidate doesn't reveal his/her values correctly, they are running under false pretenses. It makes one question: what else are they lying about? whilst I understand and (to an extent) agree with you, the sad truth is that we never fully know the people we elect or what their personal beliefs and values may be. We only ever know that a particular candidate has the ability to realise (and focus on until elected) what matters to the majority of the population. Whether or not they (the elected offical) will act on what matters is a completely different situation. In my experience, most will promise to act but rarely do (once elected), and only ever seem to pursue the issues that suit or benefit themselves. Is it "fair" that people need to know this persons history? I think in some cases yes. I'f they are a "bad" actor and have hurt people (especially children/minors etc) then yes, I think that like any other person, they should be brought to justice. With that said, I don't think being "trans" is a crime nor does it make someone inherantly "bad" or a predator, I think most people are capable of making mistakes, and I also think that most people have some right to privacy. In this case, the person was entering the public eye (as a result of their spouse running for president) and had to realise there was a risk that their history might invite scrutiny. They should have accepted this possibility early on and if they truly believe their is "nothing wrong" with being transgender, prepared for the time when they might have to acknowledge that they are, or prove the they aren't. What I don't really like is the amount of "pleasure" that appears to be taken from doing something that could destroy someone's life (perhaps deservedly so if they're a predator, but I'd prefer to see irrefutable proof first) and that fact that much of it is done for advertising revenue.
