I am 12 years old so far almost 13 and I really want to join the ant community because I think it is beautiful to watch your ants grow along side you and the hardships you face along the way. I think I am going to try to catch a queen ant some time this year in spring or summer.

I'm a humble Ant Keeper from the little country New Zealand (which has recently been battered by severe storms)! I started Ant Keeping in lockdown of 2020. Obviously it was very boring during those times, and I was scrolling through KZbin, until an Ants Canada video popped up. I watched it, and I was inspired by the way Ants live and how easy it is to keep them. I wanted to try so bad, thinking about how I could grow my own little family of Ants from humble beginnings. :)

Well i was introduced to antkeeping because my dad said a few times that he since childhood wanted to have an own colony. So on 2021 when he turned 60 me and my sisters bought him a messor Barbarus colony. And because we wanted a good and fitting setup I researched for hours and hours. That was when i started getting intrested in antkeeping. Only two weeks after my dad got his birthday present i too got my frist antspecies, since then my collection grew and grew.

If anyone is considering keeping these ants, it would be a good idea to do some research first. They are no joke. I encounter them almost daily where I live, sometimes in the house as well. Their stings are quite painful and can cause anaphylaxis in some people. I believe they're the only species capable of this, I'm not sure. They also have excellent eyesight for an ant, they can, and will, spot you and track tour movement from 6 feet away. Having said all that, they are a beautiful and fascinating any. For one thing, they don't work as a team when foraging, they dont leave chemical trails for others to follow. It's more like each ant for itself as long as you bring back food for the larvae. And defend the nest.

It started when I was 15 yo there weren't too much video on KZbin and I had to learnt many things by trying and failing method, but in the end I have learnt many crazy habits done by the ants
@Kio_vidz Жыл бұрын
They are very cute, i heard that because of their great vision they can get used to the owner and wont "escape" the formicarium. Also the workers of this specie can become a queen after the matriach dies, each worker will fight for dominance and then make eggs. The best about these ants specie is that they use their eyes to hunt and eventually smell to track down prey and comunicate. Best is when u see a worker like peaking at you wondering "who tf is that big?" This ant specie is really different than others, bc it can see and YOU can SEE that its very aware of its surroundings and can even see you.

I love bull ants and can’t wait to own some but I feel I need more experience with ant keeping as I’ve only been ant keeping for about three years and only have 3 colonies all of which are pretty hearty ants. I’d love the gift card to get more supplies or some sugar water for my current colony’s. I’m a big fan of naming queen ants and there colonies and I’d be honored if you would use the name I picked for when I do get a bull ant queen Artemis who was the Greek goddess known as the goddess of the hunt I feel it’s so fitting as they are one of the only species that the queen will go out and hunt

I came into ant keeping because I was a natural animal and invertebrate lover, I remembered spotting what it seems to be a queen ant when I was young, I just never knew, over time I saw videos about catching and raising a queen ant, it got my interest and I decided to look into it, I immediately saw absolutely love with these ants, they are amazing to me, it's strange how so many ppl just shake these ants off as lil tiny mindless pests, they are the opposite, like it's so amazing to see how an ant colony grows to a massive colony, how it starts from a queen mating with a male and then Finds a nest or digs a nest all by her self, like isn't that baffling? You'd think their just mindless lil critters, but they do more than just that, she lays eggs, takes care of them, feeds then her body tissues, then workers come out and fully dedicate themselves to being slaves for a single living organism (an ant colony) ants do so much for the ecosystem yet I just angrily watch ppl just stepping on them like their worthless, I remember when I saw a group of ppl around a spot where a carpenter ant queen was , they were about to crush her, I came in and shoved the dude who tried that, and I risked getting the campo queen on my hand, considering they can bite hard, she bit me, but I don't regret it at all, she was beautiful, then from then, I look at these ants as cute lil neighbors, there's also so many things that bring me to appreciate them, the fact that ANTS as tiny as 2 MM are able to take down a prey as big as 2 INCHES, doesn't it remind u guys of lions when they hunt, But it's a micro version, Ants are wonderful, and if your an invertebrate lover, I highly recommend u looking into this hobby, it's becomes so sweet and beautiful when u find diff amazing species, the exciting joy u get when u finally find a queen of your dream specie, this hobby helps u out a lot during leisure hours, may God bless u all and the ants,

This is a good summary of the life of bull ants. Mistakes have been made, it's true that taking a Myrmecia by the leg was not a good idea (even dangerous for the queen), but sometimes in the rush, we do with "the means at hand". I myself have several Myrmecias, which I present on my KZbin channel. This kind of ants is quite enigmatic and really fascinating. You will be able to observe submissive behaviours between workers (I have filmed some if you are interested, you can have a look). kzbin.info/www/bejne/pHubanWXj7Zoeck In any case, you film really well and your channel is pleasant to follow.
