The principles that Tawra teaches work. I'm in California, and I can't match some the sale prices that Tawra sees, but we get really great deals on other items that are expensive elsewhere. It's more about the big picture and being a good steward with what God provides. I think having a mindset of gratitude really helps as well.

Agreed. When we lived in PA I never bought citrus, avocados, artichokes or pomegranates. Way too pricey. But now that we live in CA, we can.

Thank you for including my comment in this show. My husband and I, along with our cat, live in Nova Scotia, Canada and we spend an average of $260 CAD a month. However that also includes our cleaning supplies, toiletries, OTC meds, and cat food/litter/treats. We eat all our meals at home. Bake our own bread and make pizza dough (bread machine) We also buy the occasional treats. It really isn't hard at all. We also have about a years worth of many pantry items. We eat meat every day.

People are definitely being LAZY, I regularly shop 3 different grocery stores for the best deals. I got my Thanksgiving Turkey for 49cents a pound today, my Thanksgiving dinner with lots of splurges like soda and the total cost is going to be $35 and there WILL be left overs. I live in a high cost of living area and I still keep pur groceries around $400 a month

My mom passed away in 2014 and my dad found a spiral notebook where she had written the price per ounce, pound, etc. for things like canned goods at each store she would shop at. I learned a lot about shopping ads, coupons (of items we ACTUALLY used), and stocking up. I love the rants because a lot of times its what I'm wanting to tell people as well. Thanks for keeping me on the straight. (I still have to work on the eating out part though. 😬) Please don't ever stop the sit down chats. I love them because I miss doing that with my mom and family.

I live in Toronto Canada. I loved the video. I shop at some of the same stores mentioned in the video. I find some great deals in Canada. Keep up the great work! Your tips do work! Those who complain about the prices, most likely do not plan and just buy what they want, without a list, then complain about the prices! I would love to show you how I shop, in Toronto.

Hi from Okinawa Japan! Thank you for all your wonderful information! Suggestion: maybe limit 50-100 comments come in and then stop them and edit. Hopefully, cuts down on the work and irritation. Im 63 yrs old , grew up in USA, I remember we were taught to honor elders and polite manners to others. Then, I moved, and now lived 46 yrs in Japan (very strong in social manners “Kokoro zukai” caring about others from the heart). Hence, I’m surprised about the negative and impolite comments. Whatever happened to civility?

I have never made a car payment on any car I bought . Never made a payment on my house I bought either . Just saved and bought them . I don't use credit cards never had one . I love how you used the WalMart ad . My grandson works at WalMart and does all my grocery shopping for me there . And he uses his employee discount card that saves me more . So my groceries cost less then $400 a month not bad for a family of 9 .

@@HomeLifewithRebecca No I don't . I think it had to do with how I was raised . My father taught us in life not to expect help from anyone . You want something , earn it for yourself . No matter what I got money from gifts ,babysitting ,mowing yards , ect . To first take 10% out of it and save it for later ( don't touch it ) . So I live my life like that . We all work hard for what we have and I didn't see the need to pay extra for something ( interest ) ,so I never got caught up in having to make payments for things . Lessons learned from my father he lived during the great depression .

Tawra, you are correct! Shopping for deals is work. However, the amount of time is well worth it. By shopping deals, clearance, loss leaders, and bargain outlet stores. You can put yourself into a higher income bracket without making more money. You do so by being frugal and mindful of what you buy.

I think people are missing the point about groceries, it's not what you buy on sale it's what you DON'T buy...I make all our bread, dough, deserts, pies, sauces, rice, stews, soups, pancakes, spice mix's, salads etc. By buying all the staples and having them in my pantry I can make anything in your books. I never buy any pre made packaged processed in the box food, I've used all the recipes in your books for years and have saved thousands of dollars on not buying. So if you change your shopping to only real food to make real food you will save money, yes, it takes time but you have proven what your time can cost if you do it yourself and not pay someone at a factory to put lettuce in a bag, shred cheese, make pasta sauce and put water in a bottle.....love your show and Mike was spot on today...

About shopping in the US: Canadians require a passport to visit the USA and may be asked for proof of vaccination (I’ve been). We can’t import $600 USD worth of groceries without paying tax and duty or staying for 48 hours in the USA. We have dollar limits at the border and need to stay in the USA for 24 hours to qualify for a $200 *CAD* limit, and 48 hours for a 800 *CAD* limit (yes you have to convert your shopping into Canadian dollars for your declaration). You have zero allowance if you don’t stay 24 hours so everything is dutiable and taxable. Some food items cannot be brought across the border at all. You can certainly try (I’ve done it) but whether you can or can’t get through with all your groceries and without getting stung for duty/taxes will largely depend on the discretion of the border guard. I’ve been taxed and dutied on groceries about 50 percent of the time. 🤷‍♀️ I live near a border but the nearest US town is an hour away and with the exchange rate, gas prices, the need to stay overnight/full weekend or pay duty and taxes…I’ve found it just isn’t worth it for me to shop in Washington State. I can do better, shopping the sales locally. If you only buy the sale items you can do okay but that requires a pantry so you can wait for sales. We just cannot afford to shop regular prices and get what we want, anymore. We have to just learn to want what we can get. Canadians looking to save money, I recommend Adventures in Groceryland in Nova Scotia (city with lots of stores) and Jessica Wanders in the interior of BC (more rural, less stores) on KZbin. Both are creative with ingredients but be aware that both are able to grow gardens to supplement their groceries. Not everyone has that option if you live in apartments.

We moved from Ft Laud, FL (our home town) to an island in SE Alaska. We lived on that island for 5 years. Yes, the food was much more expensive in the only grocery store on the island. However, I had a base pay raise of $22 / hr and my husband $30 / hr. We bought the worst house on the island and put $106,000.00 into rehabbing with a construction rehab loan. We sold that house making $200,000.00+ profit. This number includes the cost of the house, real estate agent and other legal fees and the rehab loan. We supplemented our grocery store purchases with our cheap fishing licenses and yard sale fishing equipment paying pennies a pound for fresh fish, shrimp and crabs. By the way, we bought clothes out-of-season on the island because it is so expensive to ship off or store on the island that the store sells said clothing for $1-$3 / piece!!! We not only bought for us, we also bought for our kids and grandkids ($0.25-$1 / piece) and mail it down for way cheaper than the clothes could be bought in the lower 48. Ugh! If people are serious, they will make time to do the work! Throw the TV's out of the window. We gave those up less than 1 year after moving to the island. justified!!! You go Tawra. Keep telling it like it is and Mike keep that soft tone repeat! You are winning this battle. Thank you.

As you know the price of gas to travel round trip from Canada to USA plus the current exchange rate to purchase groceries plus gas for the way back in USD factors in to the total cost, Currently to purchase $100USD of groceries in the USA would cost $137.50CDN in Canadian dollars. Conversely it costs $72.73USD to purchase $100CDN of groceries in Canada.

People don’t understand how to find what they need in info. I was watching a Facebook reel of a woman getting $26 worth of household stuff, TP, body wash, laundry detergent, toothpaste, etc for $9 after all digital coupons. She said “if one item is out of stock. Find something you’ll actually use” and almost every comment was “I don’t like tide. I don’t like dove. I don’t like 1 out of the 8 items you use” so instead of substituting it for something you will use. They would rather spend full price. People enjoy complains and placing the blame elsewhere

Literal facts. Canadian here, the Canadian haul was reasonable for many people especially in Ontario as Toronto is about 3 to 4 hours from most populated places in Ontario for liquation stores there is also some in other towns and cities. I live in a small town and many of our prices were the same. Also as you mentioned so many of Canadians do live close to the border. After watching your thanksgiving video I checked the flyers across the border and seen turkey for $0.59 a pound. I didn’t need any though as I found an off sale in a small town for $9 turkeys earlier this year. I found shopping in small towns usually gets me better deals as there is less people to grab them first. Love your channel! Keep doing what you are doing especially love the grocery audits!

I still sincerely believe your video was a great video & informative to let your subscribers know what foods to buy this month. I was not making excuses just stating that I am not finding the sales at our 2 grocery stores in our town in Washington state. I don’t think people realize how high prices are here. My husband was in the military so we have lived in many states. I have found “great deals” in unexpected places here. We don’t drink soft drinks/sodas at all but 1 of my son’s girlfriend does so I buy soft drinks when they visit. There is a Walgreens in a nearby town that will have sale on these 3 for $9 a few times a year. Also I have a friend that works at a potato plant & I am able to buy 50 pounds of potatoes for the price of a 10 pound of potatoes that I normally would buy from grocery store.

Not everyone lives with discount stores,.Pay what you can or whatever else they may have in Canada but here in the US its motley regular grocery stores. That does not make us spoiled. Where I live the closest discount is a franz outlet bakery 45mis drive. Kroger,Walmart, Albertsons and mom and pop are the choices I have with in a hr drive. via uber. Oh boy! They brought spicy Tawra out and I'm here for it. People have alllll the excuses. You and your mom's tips have changed my life. I'm thriving because the system works. I just made an insane amount of food for Thanksgiving for literally dimes per serving. I am able to put food back because of the tips. I've cut my household/hygiene items bills significantly and your tips about how to improve your credit have helped to! Your tips aren't hard to do. I used to coupon and that took forever. Shopping the sales is easier and you save sooo much more. Learn your prices. Know the rock bottom price. Wait for the sale and buy then. This isn't hard! Quit eating out. It isn't healthy. Costs too much and tastes like crap anyway! Like Jill said, "Make small changes a little at a time.". Again, none of this is difficult. It takes some conscious thought and really isn't that much work once you get used to living this way. Everyone else around me is drowning in inflation and debt and I'm thriving right now. And I owe so much of that to your channel. Truly, thank you! Also, I live with multiple complex health issues and your no nonsense approach has helped me in that area as well. One of my biggest obstacles has been post exertion malaise and fatigue. Two years ago, I struggled just to shower because I would be so exhausted/fatigued. But, I heard you in one of your videos talk about taking just a few minutes to do a couple small tasks. And I learned that if I kept pushing just a little harder each day that I could gain more endurance. Progress has been slow and long. BUT, I'm getting so much functionality back. I can now shower daily with relative ease and can even take my cat on short walks outside. Again- thank you. Your tips have changed my life. I'm not sure how I could ever express the genuine gratitude I feel.

I‘m from Germany. The Euro is nearly the same as the dollar. So it‘s also nearly comparable. Some items are cheaper in here, some are more expensive. Inflation is a little bit higher than in the USA. Taxes are 7 % for items like bread, milk, butter, veggies and inland fruits. Nearly all others have 19 % taxes on it. We are two people and I pay 200 Euros each week on everything for eating and drinking, but also including hygiene items and other stuff for the household. Our ads are likely the same as yours, but we have less coupons. Every Saturday I sit down for 2-3 hours and make my comparison on all items i want to pick up the next week. At 7‘ o clock on Monday the doors to most of our supermarkets open and I get in. After hitting 3-5 stores I’m back at 10’ o clock and start working in my home-office. I built up my pantry out of nothing and cut my costs drastically over the last three years - although inflation was getting crazy sometimes here in Europe. From the saved money we nearly paid off our mortgage. It‘s all doable, if one wants it. If not, one will complain. I‘m here to learn the last bit of tricks and it works. Keep up the good work guys.

Tawra and Mike, you are right. It's laziness, a spoiled attitude, and it can be done. We shop sales and go to the stores that have the cheapest prices; we keep our bills as low as possible and spend within our means. If you can't afford it, don't buy it. Period. I have had this conversation so often with someone who whines about needing money but refuses to stop spending FAR beyond their means. I'm not having the conversation anymore. They're simply unwilling to stop making excuses, give up spending on what they say they "deserve", and buy what they can afford. It drives me nuts, too, Mike!

I’m in Australia and our prices are very different, there would be very few who could pay $25 a week for groceries. There are people who can shop for far less than me per week/fortnight, I have room for improvement. I located stores who save me a ton of money on certain things, but yeah… it is a lot of work - it can be done though. It’s not about the prices, it’s implementing the tips and changing poor habits and feeling ‘entitled’.

I have someone in my life who always blames everyone else for their problems. Nothing, and I mean nothing, is ever this person's fault. Hence, this person has not grown in anyway throughout their adult life. Some people just want a pity party. They don't want to make changes. I always tell this person You can make excuses or you can make changes, but you won't make both.

Hello, I love your channel and have learned , 1) if cucumbers cost to much I will use dill pickles. 2) cabbage is cheaper in the winter so I cook with that. Cake mix and brownies have been on sale but I can make them cheaper from your book. I stalk up all summer when I see sales and hardly ever shop during the winter. Just learned to can frozen veggies and fruit. Yes prices r up all over . I choose to live with in my means, and eat a proper serving size. Thanks for all u have shared and thought me over the years. I don't think I would even give those rediculus people the satisfaction of letting them know that they upset you. Then they know they got to you. I would just delete them and not give them any of my attention. Some people live to complain. If you don't even acknowledge them it will be no fun for them to mouth off.

The fact is that people who feel there should be a one-stop solution for cheaper groceries are going to complain about your videos where you often point out that sometimes it takes going to several stores to get the best deals. Investing time in research for your area, as well as surrounding areas can be the difference in what you pay for your items. I understand some people are busy or limited in the time they can spend investigating the sales flyers and such, but that's money, too - what you don't spend in time researching, you're likely to spend at checkout. Instead of complaining about the prices you've found for folks in your grocery audits, these folks should be scouring their own grocery circulars online to see what THEY can save. We had a successful garden year this year, and though we did not preserve much, we gifted a lot of fresh produce and ate happily from our garden. This made a HUGE dent in what we would have spent at the grocery store. We are also blessed to have been able to hunt deer in our back yard, so we buy much less meat. Even when factoring in the cost of yearly hunting license and processing for each deer, we are saving money over buying red meats at the store in our area. We also have a handful of chickens that lay eggs for us pretty much every day. When egg prices were soaring, we were able to chuckle and make those omlettes guilt-free. But now egg prices have come back down to about what it costs us per dozen, so no savings there except for the fact that we don't have to go anywhere to replenish our eggs and the hens are entertaining to us. One bonus for us is kitchen scraps and weeds from the garden go straight to our hens so they eat less grain/feed from the store, they turn scraps into eggs and compost. But saving money is an intentional pursuit - someone not being intentional about their spending and saving will always find something to complain about.

I know of no Krogers in Philadelphia. They may be in Pennsylvania, but I’ve not heard of any. In Philly a couple may be under another name but anyone coming into the city has to know the areas that may not be the best for them to go shopping. I have heard you can order from Kroger in a lot of places because they own so many places and have warehouses all over the place. I tell my girls a lot of your tips. It’s really good to hear people with these values and ideas. You have good common sense.

I am Canadian. Your content has been helpful to me, but I can't find prices like you mention. That said, I am learning what are the prices to beat where I live and that is what has been incredibly helpful AND encouraging. I couldn't watch the Canadian video because I got 5 minutes in and I found it discouraging because I definitely can't find prices like that and I am willing to do the work. I also didn't comment on the video. I am in rural Manitoba. I have a Walmart 30 minutes away and some other grocery stores that do ,at times, have decent sales. The towns nearest me have tiny little grocery stores but I do watch their flyers and buy their deals. My best deal place is a little country store that sells primary produce and grains plus whatever they get a good deal on. It is hit or miss on what they have but it has been a tremendous blessing to our family. I've gotten to the point that I only buy yogurt if they have it because the grocery stores prices are so high. I also have a big garden which I froze and canned a bunch this fall. We butcher with my in-laws too. I have chickens for eggs as well. It isn't easy but I've managed to keep my grocery budget the same for the past 4 or 5 years. That doesn't mean that prices haven't gone up. They definitely have. I've just learned to be more creative then I used to have to be. It is true that we choose to live rurally and we could move. Truth is, moving to the city would put our housing expenses WAY up so I'm not sure it would help anything in the end. I choose not to complain about the grocery prices but instead be thankful that I have figured out ways to keep my grocery bill down while feeding my family well. I'll continue to follow people like you who help teach me tips that I can apply to my situation.

I loved Mikes rant best show in a long time. I won’t buy food that’s more then 5 months out of date unless it’s gummy candy which I like eating it stale because it gets harder. There’s nothing wrong with shopping that way it’s just not for me. I mean we have zero debt. Although I do complain about grocery prices I shop pretty frugally most of the time. I have a nice stock pile of food and shop mostly sales. Grocery stores in Canada aren’t allowed to sell out of date food so if it winds up at a liquidation store or pay what you can afford store then it’s almost always far out of date and they are allowed to sell it because technically they aren’t grocery stores and it’s okay if you’re buying canned chilies but not so good if you’re buying flour or milk products. I would never diss someone like Toronto woman for shopping the way she does because when the poop hits the fan her family won’t starve.

I love you guys so much. I wish I could meet you. I need Tawra to whip me into shape!!! 🥰😂 …… we couldn’t afford to live in California anymore 5 years ago so we sold everything we owned and I mean EVERYTHING with 6 kids ages 13-4 at the time. We landed in Idaho and bought stuff from thrift stores. The only things we brought were our washing machine and a dresser I loved. And whatever clothes or towels we could fit in our car. Same with dishes only what we could fit. It can be done. We are living proof. We knew nobody here and my husband took a job as a school bus driver and I stay home with the kids. Now he’s an electrician for our school district.

You guys give out free stuff all the time. And have tons of free content and recipes online. Products are just paper versions people can use in their house or tools they can use.... But don't have to. You guys never push products hard. I have heard you say plenty of times where else to find recipes. I have two of your books and I don't purchase stuff off people often even if I want to. Also don't buy myself things very often and this was something that was worth it to me. The fact you have a gluten free dairy free cook book you made for us is amazing too. Since not everyone is comfortable with changing recipes. Really a great product for anyone with food sensitivity.

This is the time of year that there are so many things on sale that it’s hard to choose what to stock up on. For many years already I buy the canned veg. and canned fruit when they have the big sales in the fall. I buy enough for a year. Anything that goes on sale throughout the year I buy enough to last awhile if it’s something I use.

I think that that's the point that most people miss. They only buy a couple of things that are on sale instead of buying enough for at least a year or enough until it goes on a great price again. I see it all the time and it drives me crazy. Chicken will be on sale for 99 cents a lb and they only buy 2. Not me my carriage is fill with at least 20 packages of the sale items ❤.

I found the prices you quoted and in some cases better. I have 4 places I shop at on a regular basis. Wal Mart, Hy Vee, Aldis and Dollar Tree. I make a list of what I'm going to buy and where. Occassional visit to Costco. People are lazy and dumb. I was recently very ill and thought I was circling the drain. Thankfully I had stockpiled and didn't have to go out to shop other then having my son get me a loaf of bread, 1/2gal milk or eggs. Get smart people!
