That was my buddy Darrell and I you saw on your way down. We were supposed to be doing the GRIT 4 that week, but due to the fires in lowman and cascade just rode out of our accommodations for 4 days instead. We made it through this one and back to town that afternoon. Great trail! Darrell on the 501 was running Giant loop Pannier Pockets on his shrouds and I was running 2 tactical pouches up high in my shrouds that I mounted using 1” webbing and cam buckles. Rode over 400 miles of single track that week and they were never in the way even when we got into the harder sections. Cheers!

No way!! Thanks so much for letting me know because I really liked that setup a lot! Thats so rad you guys made it through that trail on that afternoon. How was is coming down the backside of that mountain?
@battlebornenduro817915 күн бұрын
Well I see you went up it coming from the north this month. Going down it was beautiful man. Technical and tight for sure, but a lot of fun. Seeing the lakes from above, then we stopped at one and had some snacks before heading out to the fire road.

Great video especially the commentary. Kudos to all of the people who rode with chainsaws who have kept the trail cleared.👍👏

Awesome video. I really have gotten bored with all the other motovloggers rambling about new bikes and stuff. Your channel gets right down to the nitty gritty of riding: for exploring and seeing awesome scenery! This past weekend I got back on my bikes after a 2 month and 3 week hiatus. The heat this summer resulted in very little interest in riding this summer in Washington. Saturday I did an epic trail ride on my KTM, then Sunday I rode a seldom used trail in Washington and smashed my foot when my DRZ and myself took a dirt sample. I so thankful I was wearing a decent riding boot. I will NEVER skimp on riding boots.
@madjack_757Ай бұрын
Thanks so much! Man that sounnds like a painful one... Never skimp on the boots! I also don't blame you for taking a break from the riding. You might've seen the post, but I just filmed a new video series up in WA and OR and when i was up in WA it was hot, dusty, and smokey. Really made riding tougher in those conditions.

What's the wildest/crasiest/scariest encounter you ever had on one of this adventures?
@madjack_757Ай бұрын
Very recently I was camping in what I thought was a kinda remote area after riding for about 100 miles that day. It was probably like 10:30 at night and gunshots started to sound out in the woods around my buddies and I. Nothing landing near us or anything but it must’ve been a pretty large caliber because it was real loud. I ended up putting a round into the dirt to make some noise and kinda say like “hey there are other people out here”. The other guys gunshots stopped after that. About 30 minutes later a truck comes flying down the dirt road towards us with the light bar on top of the truck at full blast. We all turn our lights off and everything hoping we won’t be seen and then this guy goes blazing past and that’s the last we saw. Not sure if that’s the “scariest” experience, but it was a recent interaction that put me on edge before I crawled into my sleeping bag lol

Madjack another sick video. Can you talk about tires a little. This terrain is a lot of what I been riding. My starcross 6 is about dusted and want to try something else.
@madjack_757Ай бұрын
Absolutely. I run the Motoz Tractionator H/Ts and they have their pros and cons. 90% of why I am using those tires is because I am not sponsored by any tire manufacturer and so I want tires that last a good while. The Tractionators last probably 2k miles per set and thats with various types of dirt and street riding. They're very hard compound (and are a pain to install) and have less than ideal flex unless they're pretty aired down. The cool thing tho is they're so tough that even when the inner tube isn't inflated, they seem to really hold up their shape. Almost makes me hopeful I could get myself out of somewhere if I had a flat. Overall they feel like a jack of all trades kind of tire and are tough as nails. They just can struggle in some of the more silty terrain.

Sounds like my next set thanks for the info. What ecu are you running. I got my 501 early this year it’s 23. Been a great bike so far. I hung up my helmet back in 05 and this year just got back in it. I went with the vortex and q4 fmf and it runs great. Keep up the sick content.
@madjack_757Ай бұрын
Believe it or not im still on the stock ECU. Though, I am really considering the TMC ECU because I dont like how hot and lean my engine runs. I want to run it cooler. The q4 is a really solid choice. Im running the 4.1 but its pretty loud and the Q4 may be a bit more ideal.
@coreymills1137Ай бұрын
@@madjack_757 yeah my bikes fan was constantly running. Soon as I put in the vortex it cut the fan running in half.
@madjack_757Ай бұрын
Thats HUGE. This winter I want to complete a series of projects on the 501 and if I could add the boyesen water pump on top of an ECU like yours I bet I would be super stoked. Did you install your ecu or did a shop do it?

Love the content.. why ride alone though? Just last week I was riding with some buddies and toppled over a rock at 2 mph. Wasn’t injured. But my leg was pinned under the bike and I had no leverage to move the bike. Had I been alone I’d be stuck (in an awkward uncomfortable position) till someone came along. Just saying.. stupid shit happens.

I do my best to ride with others when I can. I really do. The challenging thing is filming takes a lot more time than people realize and it’s hard to find riding partners that appreciate the filming as much as the riding. Plus, my schedule is always changing which makes it hard to coordinate riding days with others. That’s a pretty gnarly story and definitely a testament to the things that can happen out on the trail
@marcb4788Ай бұрын
@@madjack_757 gotcha.. I can see that. But at least get a garmin inreach or something similar. I’m 55 and been riding dirt bikes and street for 35 years and have seen a lot of bad things, and from AA riders too. Just as you learned what to bring on the video you got stuck overnight, you don’t want to “learn” why you need and emergency GPS when riding alone before getting one. Stay safe.. killer videos
@madjack_757Ай бұрын
@marcb4788 I carry an in reach every where I go! I pay for the communication plan and the SAR100 plan in case I need rescue. It always stays strapped to my vest so it’s close by if I need it 🤟🏼

i spy mccall, think your making it a little more dramatic than the actual trail is, good ride tho!
@madjack_757Ай бұрын
@@hengbj you ought to check out the first video. The trail was really brutal and then when I got to the ridge, the trail basically disappeared. Plus since I was riding north, progress was crazy slow. Made it up like halfway thru the trail in hours of riding. Every video needs a bit storyline but I wasn’t trying to be super dramatic with it 🤙🏼

If you wanna ride that dry, rocky slick trail put on a gummy Tire Gear it down a tooth so you’re running in second most of the time and keep up your momentum. You won’t believe how much easier it will be

Man I wish I had the money to burn up and consistently be replacing gummy tires!! Re-gearing isn’t a bad idea though man!

@@madjack_757 I am 74 years old and I bought a 2020 FE-501 I fixed it but it was not cheep, I put a Get ECU I bought from Taco Moto, the WP Explorer forks are terrible have them rebuilt and kitted with compression and rebound in both forks and the gummy tires have come a long way and they will last longer than you think.
@madjack_757Ай бұрын
I have really been thinking about that ECU and rebuilding my suspension. Its all gonna depend on how my money situation looks as nature dims the lights and covers ID in ten feet of snow here in a couple months lol. That ECU is especially interesting to be because I dont like how lean the 501 comes from the factory. I want a healthier motor. Maybe in the coming season I will try a gummy tire.. Maybe another Moab trip is in order...

Love your vids but feel sorry for you having to beat yourself to death just to ride offroad. Are there any easier trails "not so rocky" in your area? Southern middle tennessee here lots of old trees and old mountains our trails have some rock but nothing on that scale.
@madjack_757Ай бұрын
Theres all kinds of riding out here, but this region where I have filmed a lot of videos this year is notoriously rocky. Though I will say, its just a very mountainous state which leads most of the trails to be a bit more challenging. I am definitely going to have my winter maintenance cut out for me after this hard riding. Someday I will have to go out east and explore Tennessee!
