The only reason why I laid my zombie-deck aside. On one hand, decks are getting too strong so that we really just have solitaire for a meta for years already. On the other, literally every deck that´s not on top is made useless by 15million hand traps, so you have to scoop if you decide you have fun playing Scraps or something. ...Few years ago, I had a hobby to take bad decks and make them work. Vendreads were my babies, could OTK through full power Sky Strikers even. I thought "people just call it bad because it needs work to build and pilot". Now, I can´t argue like that anymore. My search for interesting rogue decks that are underestimated got Ash´d. They can´t play through an Ash, an Imperm, a Nibiru and still survive.

Let's not pretend that there are in fact competitive control decks that still exist. People seem to forget that once you get pass combo decks and go 2nd 1 card otks that decks that sets tcboo , 3 judgments and a metaverse do in fact exist . A control meta is far more excruciating than a combo meta. Because at least in a combo meta you are not under any illusions of your winning chances for 5 turns while your opponent smacks you with a 1500 body every turn with tcboo and 3 NOPES on field.

@@soraneptune4178 Which type of format is better is generally very subjective, I just happen to feel pretty strongly about the current one because I'm a diehard control player. I consider stun to be its own thing though, and my hatred for it kinda makes me get really upset when I see floodgates thrown into actual control decks. Late 2018/Early 2019 Striker will always be my favorite deck, that was when they had enough hits to be brought in line but not so much that everyone had to throw in Mine and TCBOO just to try to make up for them...not to mention Utopia Double cheese that completely defeats the purpose of the deck.

Zombie player here: Actually zombies get more from gozuki/uni as starters rn than solitaire. If gozuki gets handtrapped you use an extender and try to summon out a bloom/balderoch/uni from hand with gozuki effect. If uni gets handtrapped you use an extender and go into needlefiber. If you get double handtrapped, you gotta rely on your rivalry/super poly/zombieworld/your handtraps going first which isnt the worst. Side note: zombie world makes striker dragon, romulus, and isolde sad.

Back in my days, the only handtrap i used was Honest x2 in my hands, gifting my opponent death during his own Battle phase. Pretty amusing to do in 2v2, one telling the other not to attack; meanwhile the other wents full braindead, and impaled himself into my puny monster. The salt right after the 1st honest was exellent; but then comes the second one. And then you can almost hear them yell from the other side of the planet of rage and pain.

I play a lot of Masked heroes and hand traps make me suffer two fold. One Ash Blossom can usually disrupt my opening plays and I pray to the Lord that I don't get Nibiru'd halfway into my combo. On the other hand, I had to sacrifice half my damn deck to hand traps because otherwise I'd watch a dragon link player combo for a business day and then just win, even though sometimes my hand traps don't make a difference anyway. It doesn't even feel like I'm playing heroes anymore, I'm playing hand trap control with a splash of heroes.

Well not really stun, more like "hate". Magic the gathering term. It doesn't really tell your opponent they can't do something, just that they shouldn't or else they're gonna lose random cards.

Arguably Nibriu is worse than sphere mode. It's about timing it and you could be left with a huge monster token you don't have an out too. Sphere mode is a lot safer and if nothing else when you get it back now you have a wall they have to think of an out for that can't be attacked or targeted.

It seems that Konami's way of dealing with insufferable playstyles is to support other insufferable playstyles that counter them. Combo decks are playing solitaire for 5 minutes while you watch? Have some hand traps and omni-negates. Not enough interaction? Here's a deck that can play during the opponent's turn as if it was yours. Ishizu/Tear running rampant? Just use more floodgates, we even put Dimensional Fissure back at 3. The Yugioh meta for the past years has just been a collection of "necessary evils" keeping each other in check.

Trinity Format solves these issue to a degree, most decks still run handtraps, but not to use them t1, but because your opponent cannot interact with them via removal like they can with a normal trap.

@@OnyxMP312 past turn 3 is considered a grind game because the decks designed to acrue & recur resources usually will grind through all remaining disruptions and acrue overwhelming game winning advantage around turns 3-5, even when 2 of those kinds of decks match up the game is often decided by turn 5 even if it goes to turns 7-9, which it often can, as one side snowballs a slight edge into a sure win, & it's abnormal to see no handtrap, with even the combo decks running with over a 70% chance to draw a handtrap it's far more likely that both players will have hand traps & so the game will be decided either on who can best play through hand traps or who can do best in turns 3-4 using what they have available after pushing into being stopped by & using hand traps.

Yeah we're kind of at a point now where quick play spells that can negate the activation of a monster effect, even if it's an off field activation. Are kind of a thing we need some more of to help balance out hand traps as a mechanic. Since the alternative would be a lot of hits. Like we're talking almost 20+. Though to be honest, traps need searchers. Because Trap cards aren't dead and still see play. Usually in decks that can take full advantage of them. Since most decks from late 2019 to now did make use of normal and counter traps. Honestly, wouldn't mind getting searchable continuous traps that can destroy an opponent's card once per turn (quick effect) like your usual boss monster. Would certainly give Red-Eyes a decent boost to take advantage of the archetypes search power.

Funny enough is the fact Yusei used Veiler in a clutch situation against Lawton in the Kallin Kessler Arc. If he wouldnt, Lawton would've won the duel because he had his OTK Combo. Also Z One used a lot of Handtraps against Aporia & Yusei So u see, the anime showed us that HT's are needed in this game

Mayakashi player here. I play Zombies but it loses extra hard against Nibiru for no tangible benefit while also locking itself out of generic extra deck plays for the honor. So not only does Ash kill me, but so does any other meaningfully playable handtrap in existence. =D

Negation effects literally ruin this game because there's so many of them. You say they're a necessary evil but I don't think that's true. The speed of the game isn't as much the problem as "can't be targeted or destroyed by card effects" is. If they erratad that text out of most of the cards in the game and limited hand traps to 2 the game would be a lot better. I hate this meta of building unbreakable boards with numerous negation/prevention effects. This is where Yugioh goes to die. You thought pendulums were bad well now you just can't play the game at all because your opponent won't let you. Why would anyone continue to invest money/time into a game that punishes you for playing it? This is going to be the death of Yugioh if this continues.

Then konami makes an archetype that puts 6 monster on the field every turn and all of them make your opponent lose the game (this effect cannot be negated), if they negate their effect or summon.

I genuinely think that Konami should write a ruling that states that "cannot be targeted or destroyed by card effects" only applies to monsters. Not sure how they would do that without gutting cards like Stardust but monsters should be insanely more vulnerable to spells and traps.

Personally I feel as though the main problem is that negations are really easy to produce or can negate everything, or both. A card like crystal wing is pretty fair considering how difficult it is to bring out along with it being unable to negate spells and traps. Also a card like f.a. dawn dragster is kinda fair as well sense it only negates spells and traps and is pretty weak in terms of attack unless you play an actual f.a. deck. The problem comes in when we have stuff like Apollusa, verte + dragoon, and borreload savage sense they are really easy to use, Apollusa being usable by just about any deck to get off at least a negate or two (3 or 4 with some protection or disruption), with the other two being easy omni negates.
