“I Have a Boyfriend”

*A note from Johnny about this video:
I posted this video telling a story about the conversation I had with a woman I met while grocery shopping, who mistook what I thought was friendly conversation as me flirting with her, and promptly shut me down with “Umm, I have a boyfriend.” In a slightly clickbait nature, I titled the video “I Have a Boyfriend”, knowing that many of my subscribers are well aware of the fact that not only am I straight, but my girlfriend and I have been in a committed relationship for over a year. I laughed mischievously to myself while imagining all of the confused comments I would get from people before they actually watched the video, and all the “Oh you got me!” comments I’d get after they’d watched it. I was also expecting an initially higher performance surge during the video’s first several hours, since I figured the title and people’s subsequent curiosity would definitely draw in views faster than typical. I was correct too, as the amount of views this video received in 24 hours would usually take me 3 or 4 days. What I did not expect, however, was the massive amounts of hate and bigotry that took over the comments section. I had to go in and delete large amounts of comments, eventually even having to apply filters, due to the surge of homophobia from people who hadn’t even bothered to watch the video, and assumed I had posted a Coming Out video. Numerous people also commented just to tell me that they were unsubscribing. In the first 24 hours, I lost around 200 subs. A lot of those comments received replies from other people giving their support to the original commenters, and stating that they too would be unsubscribing from me, agreeing that I was a part of what was wrong with the world, they were disgusted, etc. Other people were replying, telling them to just watch the video, that they were judging a book by its cover, etc. There were also numerous replies from people, worried, urging me to change the name of my video before I lost more subscribers.
Well. I will not be doing that.
It is 20 freaking 20. If someone chooses to be so stuck in their antiquated ideas of what love is, and who is “allowed“ to love who, that they would unsubscribe from a content creator that they had happily been subscribed to for however long, had never had a problem with, and had always enjoyed watching, simply because they came to believe that said content creator was gay, than I don’t want that person as a subscriber anyways. I will not be changing the name of my video in order to pander to people who are so filled with hate that they would blindly unsubscribe from me at the mere thought that I’m gay.
Here’s what I will be doing though:
•I will be donating all ad revenue made off this video to the Pride Foundation.
•I will be running a permanent fundraiser on this video where people can donate directly to The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center, a nonprofit dedicated to the LGBTQ+ Community.
•I will continue to believe that Love is Love.
One final note. To anyone who commented or proceeds to comment on this video strictly to gay bash or otherwise spread hate and bigotry, just know that I got paid for your view. I got that money. And that money will be going straight to a gay alliance nonprofit. So in a very direct way, you will have just contributed in donating to the very people you’re so actively trying to hate.

Having suffered a serious spinal cord injury as a 20 yr old (May '76), and being instantly paralyzed below the belt, the neurosurgeon told my family that I'd never walk again, as they were certain I'd severed my spine. Nobody told ME that...until 1 1/2 months later while in physical therapy, on the parallel bars. I lumbered my way to the other end of the p-bars, my girlfriend broke down crying, saying " they told me you'd never walk again!" Well I AM indeed walking! You asked the 911 dispatcher if he'd pray with you... I know that many were praying for me when I was 20 yrs old as well. Prayer works! Looking forward to perusing through your content. To answer your questions: no, you are not missing something, this is skepticism towards men in modern-day society. Here's how it is: women in society are raised to be wary of men. It's important we distinguish well-intended kindness from attempts at flirting or possible ulterior motives. And yes, it is hard to make that distinction. It's important to set limits when talking to strangers, and let the other person know what they can expect and what they cannot expect if you're hesitant, and see from the reaction of the other person if they had any further intentions other than friendly conversation. Now, there are many ways to go about this, and one 'technique' is the "I have a significant other" line. I personally have never used it because I have never been approached like that (save for my husband when we first met but that was mutual), but I have seen it being deployed at the gym a few times - often used as a last resort, mind. I really hate this line and it irritates me that this is one of the most effective ways to fend off unwanted advances, because it indicates that the other person (man, woman, nonbinary, anyone) has more respect for someone they have never met or might not even exist for all they know, than they have for you. I find that abhorrent. But... as I said, it's effective, sadly. Hope this was a bit helpful. :)

Slightly off topic, but running into someone in every aisle of the supermarket after you've finished talking to them is sooo awkward. I ran into a former nextdoor neighbor at the store who I hadn't seen in 19 years. We stood there talking for at least an hour catching up. We said our goodbyes, promising to get together for dinner one day soon, hugged, and went on our way. Wouldn't you know it, we continued to run into each other over and over in almost every aisle in the store. It was extremely awkward! Welcome to female reality. Up until I was 30yo there were hardly any occasions of men talking to me (without a reason) that didn't turn into asking for a phone number or smth. So you learn pretty quickly to just say "I have a boyfriend" - which I literally didn't - to avoid all the cringe and bother. But I think that's a bit of a cultural thing. In my country people are really shy and we don't do a lot of small talk - and men usually need alcohol to be able to chat up women. But I have probably said that to many guys who were just being friendly ...maybe. It was mind blowing to travel in Ireland were people casually hang out in pubs and talk to strangers. It was so refreshing to be able to talk with men and just say "k bye, it was nice to meet ya" at the end. I decided to be more open and friendly after that - men were still always trying to hit me on, but I would just very firmly tell them that I can have a chat, but I am not "interested" and sometimes added having a boyfriend still. But that "fake boyfriend" shield actually pisses me of nowadays. It's messed up that men will not leave a woman alone if she just says she's not interested. They are more likely to respect another man and his "property" than respect a woman and what she wants or doesn't want! Edit: Oh, and I'm not super good looking.

Hey there! I just found you after listening to your 911 call on a different channel and I really love all that you're doing for others. I think it's really neat that you turned a scary experience into something to grow stronger from and to help others who are similar to you. I am not an amputee, but I am definitely not straight. The problem with some people is when the hear that someone is part of the LGBT community, they may assume we are "the trouble-making kind." I'm not just talking about the ones who think we're evil or gross, I'm mainly referring to the people who assume we're like the extremists who police and lecture others non-stop with political correctness, have volatile tempers over trivial matters, ruin businesses, etc. (Twitter and Tiktok have excellent examples of what I'm talking about). It really sucks because most of us are not like that and it hurts being lumped in with the ones who give us a bad name (I hate people like that too, but most of us are humble, kind, and don't care if people don't support us or not as long as they are being respectful).
