Moxon is great for 10/11 meter. Built 2 element for my son and it’s working extremely well for both bands. Very forgiving bandwidth and SWR

Hi Chuck, Great honest video thank you for the time taken to make and put this video on for all to see. I have made the same antenna played with in for 2 month and ended up with a 10m loop, easier, low noise and lots of gain even when installed very low. used 75 Oum and it tuned so well on close to all the 10-meter band (no balun was used) + worked great on 12m and 15m with the use of a tuner. 73 from Australia

I experienced all of the support issues in a DIY Moxon build for VHF!. Its all wbout how you fabricate the hub and coax support system which will cause wire sag throwing off the antenna. For 6 meters i concluded a 2×8 or 2×10 wood block is the way to go. 2 meters is so light pvc pipe will work. I used driveway markers 4 feet and 72 inches from a box store for support. Kite ferrels may work for the tip. You always have to tune i ended up using an online wire calculator and left 6 inches of extra wire and pruned each side till i got resonance and swr. You have to get the antenna up high over 6 feet to prune...

Yes Austin , I never had problems with just two elements but when you add a 3rd or 4th it adds work.

Ah ja ... Carbon fiber is essentially a carbon resistor that'll capacitively couple through the epoxy. I'm enjoying these vids, hoping to build one of these come spring

i think just copy the same mounting as for the outside elements. mount the arm holder lower next to the others and tension the poles upwards. you can hold them in place with fishing line.

Great insights and a great antenna Chuck. The development is the fun bit (for me anyway). I'm going to remake my 20m Moxon using the 11mm tent poles. Your right about telecopic poles. There is not 2 the same and and few are rarely available again in time. The tent poles will always be available but they do have their downstairs as you know.

Yea the tent poles are all the same that's the good part of using them. Thanks Colin!

Thanks for the video Chuck, this is much better than videos which always show things going right first time. I like your real world approach. I think you are correct re carbon fibre. My own experience is that carbon fibre is OK if the electric field is going across it but bad when it runs parallel as it does with a vertical mast and antenna.

Chuck, i have always thought the radiating hub design was a poor way to build a moxon. Whatever shape is used, I think a mast above the hub, with wires running dow to the corners and center feed, make sense. I do thik the Hex concept of arcing the poles up is a better idea than letting the poles droop.

I made a duel band moxon for 15 and 10 metres and it is very wide banded and works great. I would love to have a 3D printer, but that is out of the question financially. HS0ZQA Thailand

what portion of the moxon gets connected to the coax? The driver only? Can you show how you made that connection? Do you know of any moxon program that will give all the needed measurements for this 3 element moxon (i'm going to use different wire awg so it's going to change some of the dimensions). THANKS

Why is the feed point offset a couple inches? And does the feed point with coax split like that make it 75ohms?(kinda like a dipole)

I'm not finished adjusting is why feed point is off center, I will fix that.

Most any yagi on the ground will radiate in a 360 degree pattern. The moxon is worse for this as it shoots equal rf from the sides. If you could get it up 20-30ft it would be better for testing. I always hated the hub designs of moxies. They do work well though! You can build an 11 element 10m yagi from rope and wire. They work amazingly well.

I really appreciate the good audio in your videos, many times in these types of videos the audio is rough. Tried building a 6m moxon recently with some scrap parts at home but darn thing was so flimsy and hard to tune I scrapped the project. Don't have a backyard to work with.. - 73 DE LB1TI

Thank you for the comment on the audio, I did have some interference on my mics a couple times maybe low battery. For 6m check out my video on a 6m hexbeam and I have a moxon made with PVC

I would say your making a 3 element wire beam "skypper" antenna not a 3 element moxon... A moxon is a folded dipole with a reflector... Real simple not alot of gain but but directive and a little side rejection...had a few also known as a Vk2aqb I think it was named..not sure.. gotta get them up to 25 \30 feet to work which is its own problem if portable...I found anyway
