There is absolutely an alpha chicken. You are absolutely correct. As in all social animals, there is always a dominance factor that comes into it. The alpha theory was “debunked” by replacing it with “it’s just parents and their babies” but that is still a dominance hierarchy, and when a younger dog matures and the older one gets old and weak, the younger one will take over.

Rachel!! Loving the cheekans...and your uploads!! By the way, speaking of social hierarchies, one of the terms that's fascinating (I learned it in a government course years ago) is as follows. There's a dynamic, amongst adults, known as the 'iron rule/law of oligarchy.' Basically stated (paraphrased from the professor who taught it to us) this rule/'law' points out the dynamic that in any group of adults (say 25-30 adult students in a college class), that there will *always* be 1-2 individuals, from amongst the 25-30 aggregate number, who self-appoint/step up into a 'leadership' role...even though they were not asked to do so - nor were they appointed by the professor of the class to do so. I have always found this interesting - and have seen it play out, innumerably, over the years since then. Thought I'd share this one with you for your use; or for grins and giggles, if nothing else. Best regards, Scott(y) Corso Knight

🙋🏻‍♀️I was that child🤣..My partner said there is always that"top dog" chicken that no one messes with. That makes so much sense about the pecking Order!.. I'm learning so much about Chickens that I never knew, There's definitely more to them than you'd first think!..Not gonna lie, it seems they can be a lil cray cray..👀🐓😂

My son was diagnosed with ODD at 12. I used to call him my little button pusher. Actually had a teacher ask me to tell him he needed to listen to her. LOL. Pulled him out of that class fast.

I find it so hilarious how people claim dominance hierarchy, is false, yet they believe in the pecking order. It seriously makes no sense to me lol great video as always ❤

I just read a great blogpost about using spent coffee grounds for coop bedding. It’s easily scoop able and not harmful to the chickens. If you have a Starbucks nearby they’ll give you the spent grounds for fee and you just put them on a tarp to dry in the sun and toss in the coop! Also great for your garden 🪴!

As I understand, being similar to you as you described in this video, defiance comes from not having a solid confidence in your parents as a young child. It is learned that you have to protect yourself at a very young age. You offer very interesting perspectives and can't wait to see more. Thank you for your contribution to this world and these animals 😊

My mom is a para for elementary kids and I can say this is 100% true. She has had the crap beat out of her by 6 year olds because they are never expelled or got in any sort of trouble. The whole concept now is "let them do what they want" and it's insane. This whole idea of "flat earthers" and "no alphas" is insane to me. Like how can we be falling so far back into the past when we have all of this research and science to back it up!? I honestly do not want to see what this world is going to turn into. It's scary.

I love my dog and she is my baby but she is a dog and thinks like a dog. Can’t help but think some behaviors are due to attitudes in the schools. Someone needs to earn my respect and the social standing means nothing to me. I do respect police and all the crap they have to deal with. Chickens are savage animals.

Dominant , leader like personality is not the same as ODD. But you had to adapt as a kid to survive. I would of never of guessed you had that diagnoses. Sounds like you really overcame much adversity. Unfortunately ODD can develop into Antisocial Personality Disorder....and more severe Socio/psychopath . We can all change, grow, learn and thats the best part.

Rachael have you been diagnosed with ADHD? Oppositional defiance disorder is common amongst people with ADHD. Also your bursts of energy, many new hobbies, impulsivity and then ultimately the burn out after doing too much. These are all aspects of ADHD. Just wondered if you were aware?
