As a former collection agent, it happened in numerous cases that young adults allowed us to speak to their parents. The agent will read a script (written by lawyers) that basically says that the person(s) in question can talk to collection agents, negotiate payments, know the numbers, etc ... They do not have to be co borrowers. Also, parents usually know that something's up because their kid's phone (and their residential phone) is most likely ringing 7-8 times a day from collection calls

In 2011, I had a side gig and one Friday evening I broke my left tib/fib which required surgery --plates, screws and pins. It was an accident and my PT company took care of all the bills and my primary job continued my paychecks. For that reason and because I didn't want to milk this and my primary is a desk job, I had work brought home to me beginning 10 days after the accident and then returned to the office 21 days after the accident. I was in pain but I managed. I was late for work two or three days/week for several months to attend PT but I put in my hours. Not trying to say this guy is milking this, really don't know, but if he values his resume and if he wants to be independent of his mom someday then he needs to dig deep and overcome this injury. And I agree with Dave if he owes money he needs to pay now since he has the money.

This is what bankruptcy was made for. He has a long line of medical bills coming in that he doesn’t know about yet. He’s not working yet after a year and only got $15k from that settlement? His situation changed significantly bankruptcy may be his best option. That being said, how is he not working yet? A few months I can see, a year? Find income . How bad are the pains, what meds are you taking, are you still taking the pain killers, which pain killers are you taking. It may be best to reevaluate your medication and pain killer dose as they may be interacting badly or putting you into a mind set that the pain is worse then it actually is or even slowing your recovery.
