Great content! Undoubtedely it is difficult to" forget" our own customs and habits, as each of us has been forged and raised in a specific environment from which we have assimilated many things that are part of us. Our country has had a strong influence on our formation, education, food..., but if we tried, when abroad, to balance a new life with our old way of living, we could certainly breathe the air of our home even in another country. As a Chinese who lives down under, I echo a lot of your feelings. There are so many things I miss, which I took for granted while back home. However, it doesn't mean that I'm living a miserable life. I guess you would agree with me on this. We all make decisions which consist of some compromise. I always say that you only have two hands. You can only hold on to that much. If you want to grab other stuffs, you have to let go something in your possession. So far, I luckily could follow my heart in making life decisions. I enjoy what's around me, but I keep asking myself what I want next. It might be in China. You never know. Aging is an interesting thing. It makes you realize some needs which had been masked in the past. OK, enough BS.

Yes life is good here and for me personally the benefits far outweigh the downsides . I think it’s impossible to move abroad and not miss something or another it’s human nature to be attached in some way to where we came from and it’s good to miss some things because it will make returning to the US like an exciting vacation 😝aside from being reunited with friends and family I can experience/eat/do all these things that I have been living without for two years 😝

The biggest thing I miss while living in China is family and friends, also the feeling of belonging to a place, wherever I go all I hear is waiguoren and people staring at me, just like they stared at you in the video.
@@pengzhang5081 What are you talking about? Yeah the staring and “waiguoren” stuff gets annoying , especially as someone who loves to travel to tiny places I deal with it all the time it’s alienating and rude IMO . but on the other hand, I get a lot of great video content from those kind of people , in my vlogs in the US I won’t be able to get so many interesting interactions with strangers because first off no one is gonna be starting conversations with me out of nowhere and second a lot of people don’t like being filmed so , there’s some good and bad in everything I guess ! Perhaps no one still goes to KTV in China today, but I did enjoy time spent with friends and colleagues in KTV at Friday night after work. This is something really hard to find in US.🐶 Please enjoy your travel and stay healthy!

@@kats_journey_east Maybe it is due to the reality that Chinese people are less likely to show off ourselves even if they are a "dog" person. KTV is one of places that everyone is relaxed and show a different side of themselves. One thing I definitely agree on your video is the easy access to nature in US. People in US start to hike when they are still babies/toddlers/kids. IMO, it is a fortune for US people to have so many places to go during weekends and holidays. We are traveling in Washington state with our 1-year old daughter this week. Though she still cannot walk now, she absolutely enjoys herself in the baby carrier.

As a Chinese that had been living in the UK for ten years I am so grateful that finally someone has named something that was once so important in my life. Potato crisps was certainly one of them. You literally can find 20-30 different crisps in different flavours and finishes just in a local supermarket. I find salted or original my personal favourite but salt and vinegar a bit on the adventure side. Also dessert is something I can never manage to find a full replacement of in China. My favourite is definitely the sticky toffee pudding. That's something that keeps life going especially if you have a tough day. I also want to mention that two very elemental things - fresh milk and fresh juice. It is not that you couldn’t find these two things in China just you have to look for them hard and you still couldn’t find good quality ones easily with price on par even with UK.

Toilet paper!! lol... and also I like the quieter public area -- the loud speaker repeatedly advertising in China supermarket or anyplace is extremely annoying...Also like the less crowded and less over-commercialized tourist attracting spot in US -- guess they did good job preventing such places being flooded/destroyed by overdevelopment. And now this is hugely important: there are plenty plenty (green) field for you to play soccer, baseball, basketball or tennis.. I'd say say US life style indeed is too comfortable.. but after all these being said, I still miss China life style a lot. China living style offers a lot different good experience. I think I'd probably go back home China after retired.

Hope you get to experience most if not all the things you've missed when you head back to the USA. If you want to experience a vibrant Chinese New year in the future, do consider Malaysia. I've heard from Chinese nationals about how surprised they were that Malaysia celebrates this holiday better than back from where they come from

I’ve heard similar things about Malaysia CNY, hope to check it out sometime in the future😍

I definitely agree the month reading up to both Halloween and Christmas are the best, it's the vibe / atmosphere. 🎃 🎄

i notice the greens around the apartment complex are nicely designed. we don't have it here 😢😢😢. talking about chinese new year, i have been thinking of re-experiencing the real chinese new year festive atmosphere in china, we just don't have it here. as of now, i don't think china will reopen till at least the summer of next year. so sad😢😢 . love from canada.

Hope you can come back soon, wish this covid policy would go away soon😭😭😭many other East Asian countries have opened up in recent months , Malaysia Philippines Japan etc hope there is a light at the end of the tunnel soon

Exactly, at the begining, I guess that are the parents and friends, the variable snacks which are cheap and easy to get in your hometown, like doughnuts. In addition, the trandition festival cultures are your homesick in memory. Quite undersand on you, your husband should notice the issues and release your suck feelings. Hope you happy

By the time you read this, assuming you do, you probably would have reached 70K subscribers. What an achievement in a year, from 10K to 70K. You are going to be the Chinese KZbinr star soon. The downside is that, with so many people, the subscribers would not be able to communicate with you at a personal level. The world is falling in love with you. I have to admit that I love your exploits in China. I learn new things every time I watch it. Thank you for doing this.

Some things that I miss from the US: 1. Barnes and Noble Bookstores and Cafe. It's been a while since I have been to one. 2. Crawfish Etouffee; 3. Coffee and Beignets from Cafe du Monde in New Orleans; 4. Chili's Restaurant; 5. Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica; 6. Museums in NYC (MoMA, MET, Natural Science Museum and Planetarium. 7. Planet Hollywood (the few that still are open). 8. Walking around Manhattan. 9. Virgin Records.

Where in the US did you live ? I haven’t experienced any of these except Chili’s and Barnes and noble , looks like I have to get out and do some more exploring this summer 😛😛

@@kats_journey_east Hi Katherine: I did my undergraduate at UT Austin, then moved to Louisiana for graduate school completing an MS in Mathematics at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. I lived pretty much most of my adult life in the US: Texas, Louisiana, and visited NYC a lot and traveled throughout Louisiana visiting Baton Rouge and New Orleans. They might still have the Virgin Records store in Baltimore (not far from Virginia), and New York City is not far from Virginia either :) I no longer live in the US, so that's why I said I missed those things I shared.

@@kats_journey_east My dream is to one day go to China and live there a while. It wasn't until last year that I felt a strong connection to China (seeing all of you guys vlogging positively about China). I have been to Hong Kong may times and traveled only briefly to Guangzhou, Shanghai, but that's it. I hope you can upon your return to China, visit Hong Kong and share your experiences... there are lots of rural and pristine spots in Hong Kong away from city life. I know how you love to walk the path less traveled.

That is so try about "nature". Compair some of the park close to suburban region, I alway feel the park in China, where I live, is artifical with the pathes well constructed. Both types are good, but it is not that easy to fine one which is less crafted.

Interesting. I missed the fast food (Waterburger) as well but that was about it. there were so many new things in China that I didn't have time to miss the rest.

I also have an eastern US beach background. Everything you miss (except family and friends of course) is available in Japan, and more. Just sayin'. Been here two years, not going back.

I’ll have to check it out then😛😛I have only been to Japan once and it was for a week , it was a fun place but didn’t get enough time to properly explore
