Welcome to Episode 34 of the wooden boat liveaboard journey. In this episode, we install an Autoterm 4kw Diesel heater in the engine room of the boat. My channel is dedicated to sharing the process of restoring and repairing a 1940 Seaplane Tender into a fully functional liveaboard.
The boat is a 1940 seaplane tender initially used by the Royal Air Force during WW2. The hull is built of double diagonal mahogany planks and oak ribs. My parents bought this boat more than 30 years ago and used it for weekend trips up the lake. Unfortunately, as they became busy with work it was left idle for many years falling into disrepair. So I've started to invest time into repairing the boat and transforming it into a liveaboard.

Fit a co alarm . It will save your life . I always put a fresh air pipe on the inlet to an outside air source for 3 reasons. 1. It stops mould and damp. 2. No engine room smells inside the boat. 3. If you get an exhaust leak you are not sucking the fumes back into the boat. I usually leave the air intake for the combustion air near the heater .

I would recommend that you install an off-the-shelf inline fuel filter just after the diesel tank. Looking forward to your next video. Take care.

Looks good. You will most likely not have an airtight living area so you can pipe the big inlet on the heater into the same space as the heated output. This way you will run more efficiently since as the space heats up the heater will ramp down sooner and save on fuel. You will basically be re-circulating some of the heat produced and the natural air leakage from the space will be replaced by fresh air.

Great addition with the hester! A well intended suggestion to keep the dehumidifier filter very clean (it seemed matted with dirt in the shot) They can cause the unit to overheat and pose a fire risk. A friend's parents lost their house to fire that way.

I wouldnt bother with marine grade plywood (pressure treated). Best method is to roll a thin layer of epoxy resin on all wood. Can get flexible version where required.

Well the local marine grade plywood is no good. Definitely I agree with applying a thin layer of epoxy resin to all wood and even marine grade ply that is being used outdoors. Interior I can use non marine grade. What's this flexible resin? Is it for roofing mainly? Thanks for watching.
