I Installed Corner Armor On My TJ [Metalcloak Extended Corner Armor]

This is a walk through of how I installed corner armor on my TJ. The corner armor I chose was Metalcloaks aluminum extended corner armor. I went with this armor because of its designed integration with the other Metalcloak products on my Jeep (Fenders / Rock Sliders).

I'm watching this vid in March 2024 and it's STILL informative and up to date. You do a great job narrating & using hyperlapse. I really appreciate your references to additional tools and issues you had also. Like another commenter stated however, while @WheelinWithWally was able to purchase the panels powder coated, the MetalCloak site now states "This system comes in raw". This makes NO sense considering MetalCloak seems to sell everything else with a powder coat option. Nuff said. Gonna watch more of your vids now @WheelinWithWally!

I got frustrated/aggrevated while installing my corners. I think it's all but impossible to get a perfect fit for any aftermarket body armor (or other parts). There is just too much variance in the dimensions from year to year and TJ to TJ. At the end of the day it still puts a smile on my face. The videos are informative and entertaining. Thanks again.

Really appreciate the kind words! Some days it's an absolute struggle to film the videos with a smile. Between the heat/humidity and frustration of certain tasks and mistakes then adding trying to film an informative video on top of it can be a lot. I appreciate your honesty during the installation process. Maybe it will help the vendors with the quality control of their products. I replaced my taillights with flush mounts rather than having that stock taillight hanging out there just begging to be smashed. I think your videos are great. Let the project dictate the length. I would like to know where you found your spare tire jerry can rack.

Thank you! I am also thinking of swapping my tail lights to some LED low profile ones. Just trying to get the big stuff out of the way first. At some point I'm going to make a review on the Rear bumper/tire carrier. It is an LoD Offroad bumper which is a company from Indiana. So it is American made. I do have some minor complaints about it but overall it is a very nice setup. The cost is high though. I probably paid 2k for the entire setup (Bumper, reverse lights, Tire carrier, Jerry can mounts, and trail rack). They also no longer have my exact bumper as they have changed up the looks and designs a little.

I’m confused. The whole point of corner guards is to protect the body but it defeats the whole purpose when you’re drilling holes into the body damaging the body lol.

Haha yeah it sorta does. But other then drilling to mount that armor I'm not sure how else you would do it. The armor is much thicker than the body sheet metal so it is still much stronger and should resist more damage. I also think it wouldn't look as bad to have the armor get some dings and dents but if the body did it would look worse and cause more damage. Then there's the cosmetic aspect of it. I just think it looks good and fits the build and look I wanted for my TJ. So for me it wasn't necessarily about protecting the body but instead making the jeep tougher and looking the way I wanted it to.

Haha nothing wrong with being that guy. I've been that guy too. I just recently added metalcloaks 3.5" dual rate coil springs. I have 35" mickey Thompson tires baja boss M/T tires on 15" fuel covert rims.
