Here is the actual translation for the intro. You're funny Gavin! Looking forward to the series! "Greetings! In fact, I don't speak Russian, so I speak to you in Slovak, with a bad Russian accent. And now I show you a picture and say the words Lada Niva, so that you think that I am talking about it. However, in reality I only say silly things, as I am always a little drunk - that's the story of my life. And now you see a photo of Seattle, Washington, but I am thinking about my next beer. Sounds great, no?" :D

11K USD? For a 1982? This is more than a new one today in Russia (AC included) ... a lot more. These things hold value much more than here in Europe ... And a 1982 is not even fuel injected. This endeavour would be much cheaper back in Slovakia. Good luck though, you'll need it. These old Nivas rust so quickly, you can hear it at night, if you listen closely. Lada claim they fixed it nowadays.

I did something similar when i bought my split screen kombi on the internet in Brazil. Traveled hours to pick it up (i live in Brazil now). It hadn't run in years and it was night when i arrived, had a look around and shook the guys hand. In the rush to close the deal, get it running and get on the road the next day, i had missed a series of really shoddy repairs. That Niva is in amazing condition!

Hi I am Russian living in NZ, used to convert an old Viva back in 2008, funny to say but back in 1990s I was driving my Triumph 2000 back in Russia, now's your turn to drive and convert the Soviet relic. You are right once you convert something you always want to carry on.Now I am driving my Nissan Leaf and thinking about conversion of my Humber Super Snipe MK3, or 4wd Mazda MPV, 1995 sort of glorified Niva. Anyway, good to see you again with another project.

I found that one just about the time it went poof! ;-) No I don't hate you, but I am miffed that I missed buying this one by a few days. But now that I know where it went and why I am happy that it found a good home. When I finally do find one I will be doing the very same thing. Converting to electricity was and is my plan when I finally get one of my own. My neighbor, who has since passed away had been building electric vehicles of all sorts since the 70s. He got me hooked on electric vehicles with my first car which I bought from him. It was a geo metro and I loved driving it. Wishing you all the best and I look forward to the conversion videos. Cheers!

Well. They did make electric Niva in the late 90's. Though they used 5-door version (2131) and they had to remove it's 4wd capabilities. VAZ experimented with hydrogen and used Niva (although, by that time it was already called Lada 4X4, since "Niva" name was transferred to new model developed together with GM) as a chassis.
