This was a real song that was played on the radio quite frequently. It was pretty popular. Mattel (owner of Barbie) did not love it. They sued MCA records for trademark infringement. MCA countersued Mattel for defamation. I can’t recall exactly why but I think they made some pretrial statements about pirating their IP. Anyway the 9th Circuit decision is one of my favorite published opinions. The court literally calls them “Copyright Godzilla” and “Trademark King Kong” and finds that there was no trademark infringement or defamation and the last line of the opinion says “The parties are advised to chill.” 🤣🤣🤣

This version is the original song, made in 1997 by the Danish-Norwegian dance-pop group, there are other similar songs out there but they're the ones with the modified lyrics because Mattel the company behind Barbie couldn't successfully sue them. Later on, around 2009, Mattel 'barbie inc' somehow got people to produce another version which was featured heavily in commercials in the U.S.
