Sardines and mackerel are now one of my favourite snacks, along with pork grinds. So filling. Us Greeks eat the whole fish usually, so things like skin bones etc do not worry me. We also eat a lot of small fish deep fried and whole, from head to tail, like potato chips. The skin has so many nutrients in it. Skin on all the way.
@ruthieonline

The tails and heads are the best. I remember my mom, she‘s greek too, frying tons of sardines and we children’s standing around the pile, grabbing our little hands in, so yummy. Now I‘m 57 and remember when my mother gained weight in her fourties‘. Before we changed our dresses. The gain of her weight started with her changing butter to margarine, olive-oil to sunseed-oil, fullyfat, selfmade greek yoghurt to fatfree one. All because the campaign in the seventies/eighties against fat as your gravestone came in public. My earliest remember was me eating pancakes fried in bitter green greek olive-oil. Not very tasteful but much more healthier than now.

I am trying this Sardine challenge starting Sunday afternoon, because I an 70 years old and have about 30kg to lose. Currently from a staring point of 114kg I have flat lined on weight loss at 109Kg after about 4 months of reduced calories and low carb. My Glucose is averaging at 7.3 which has to come down. It looks like insulin resistance which I had never heard about until I watched your videos. So I am just about 30 hours and in the first day Sunday at 3pm I ate 3 cans of sardines. On the second day I did not feel hungry and ate 2 cans but only when I felt the need to eat at 1200 and 1700hrs . Lots of water and coffee. This morning I still don't feel hungry but I was shocked to see my weight at 106 kg. That is a 3kg loss from Sunday to Tuesday morning which is a big surprise and the whole process is surprising in a nice way. I'm hoping I can use this as a way to reach my goal of 68kg and my glucose level gets lowered. This is the first time I have heard of this Sardine challenge and it is very interesting.

We would eat them on the rural Texas porch around noon, special occasions. I’m Keto-Carnivore and have been for 4 years. I live in Central Oregon, I stock food for the future, search Cascadia Subduction zone. Just counted, I have 63 cans of sardines in my Emergency storage and another dozen in my daily pantry. Stir fry broccoli in a little tumeric, then add sardines and tomato before adding lentils(soaked first) and cook through. I would say over 90% of my evening meals has been that. Was working riding as a courier for 12h shifts and wanted to eat quickly so I could recover and had little energy to cook. Now it's my staple diet food and sardines are an amazing food. @@caligirl2945 Hello. I saw your note and it brought to my mind that one of the problems with keto and carnivore is that over time, people begin to add too much healthy fat to their diets, and it causes weight stalls or increases. I'm not carnivore officially. I am keto and I love how I feel on keto. I'm trying to learn about carnivore before actually starting. I have, however, started eating only mackerel to see if I can lower my blood sugar. I started out with a 207 reading @0237 in the morning on 3/1/23 before I started eating Keto again. Long wagon slip - intentional. I just tested again on 3/20/23 @0605 and my reading is 114. It's worth the effort. I've been eating only mackerel for 3 days. On 3/11/23 @1613, my blood sugar reading was 193. It works. I haven't been stingy with the mackerel. I bought a few cases from Amazon to make sure I handed enough. I'm going to keep doing this until my BS numbers are in the 80's. I bought a few cans of sardines to sprinkle in. I guess this sorta makes me carnivore :-)

After reading about fish with most EHA/DHA, I have also tried herrings skinless (matjes in Northern Europe) and they are also great. Years ago I would have therm in a sandwich, today I eliminate the bread, cover them in finely chopped parsley, and inundate them in olive oil, for me they are a treat… As we say from Latin “de gustibus”, which roughly translates “to each his/her own taste”…

Oh, boy, do I understand that! Hang in there---it's tough, but "we" (whoever is going to do the fast) have to do this for our collective health! I'm very new to sardines and mackerel, so will eat only the skinless, boneless until I can do that without urping. Right now, I put the flaked fish into my daily green salads, and I don't see them. It's strictly psychological, I know, but I have to get the nutrients in some way, and this works for me for now.

Last night, I had double burger lettuce wrap with mayo and pickles, 6 boiled eggs, and little container of broccoli with yogurt for snack. I drink Propel and water, coffee in the morning. Not sure I want to do it again though...same thing every day get to be boring meals day after day. I DID NOT check my blood glucose or ketone. My goal was same weigh loss with benefit.

But why eat them straight out of the can? So much nicer to slide them into a small shallow bowl. I usually have a glass storage container in the fridge filled with a couple of cans of sardines in olive oil - oil and all - into which I squeeze quite a bit of lime juice. The acidity cuts through the fat (much like mustard) and ‘freshens’ them up. Whenever hungry, I ‘fish out’ a sard or 3 and chow down. For those not ‘allergic’ to greenery, some chopped fresh parsley in there is good, too. Sardine salad, with minced red onion, celery, parsley and mayo is as good as salmon or tuna salad at a fraction of the cost.
