I love FFXIV as much as the next person after 2,000 hours, but I really do wish it would have borrowed a page out of Elder Scrolls Online's character creation kit.

I would like the ability to have "personalities," if that makes sense lol. Like if you like one race, but have a type of vibe you're going for that doesn't match the personality expressed in emotes, i.e. wanting to play as an Fem Au Ra but wanting the emotes to be more brash instead of the usual dainty and shy. Also different ear shapes for Miqos. We've grown past the need for donkey ears imo LOL

A more full Male Hyur or one of the Fat Cat guys from Shadowbringers. The Hyurs do get 2 build options, but they feel so small and skinny. So instead, I embrace the skinny with a male Elezen (only because the taller your character the bigger your mounts/weapons so you can appreciate their design more - Roe's are the tallest possible, ever-so-slightly.)

i think face types is worse than body types you look at like female hyur.. sure theres 4 options but only 1 of those options isnt old or ugly.. so every single hyur has exactly the same face.. its the same with a few other races too. atleast for me the fact that theres small lalas or big rogs is enough for me to be happy with the body sizes, though I loved the scene in shadowbringers when you meet dulia-chai for the first time. and my cat girl was like :O :O :O I didnt even know we could get that big :O :O

I'd love more hairstyles, or even the option(s) to tweak certain things on hairstyles! One example: adjusting the length of bangs.

As a Hrothgar player, I'd like more masculine hairstyles available to us. A bunch of the recent new hairstyles have been leaning way more on the effeminate side, but they're implemented as unisex...and they look horrible on the big cat men. We recently saw some potential hairstyles being added to the game and it really seems like with so many female players and dudes playing "Dolly Dress-Up" with their female characters, there's way more emphasis on those styles...I just hope we don't go the way of games like TERA, where the new stuff added to the game basically only ever made the folks playing the Loli/female characters happy.

@@SageTigerStar Great points, and I agree. I'd hate to see FF turn into TERA. I played TERA briefly, but couldn't get over how everything was so...loli-fied, which of course made everyone look the exact same.

@@fairlyenjoyable I was a Popori in that game, the little chunky beastmen, and they got like...NO LOVE for the entirety of my time playing. But the game got like 3 new classes, TONS of outfits, some new character creation options...and all of it was for the women of the game, with only the Brawler class eventually being playable by human men instead of just human women as they initially designed it. I've been out of the game for a long time, but I'd hate to see XIV start to go down that path too. I think TERA is dead now too, unsure.

Only a minute in, but I think the way they're changing the meshes in DT it'll be easier for them to add more character customisation in the future. It looks like it was done to improve development flow on gear, but I think the knock on effect is that they will be able to morph stuff dynamically so it should make the addition of more features possible 🤔

Completely agree with you. My biggest gripe is with being unable to modify bodies in this game. At least mods exist, but they're illegal, and only you can see your modded character. 😢

Im so sad that I can't wear some of the head gear "cuz bunny ears say no" HOWEVER some of the other ones work??? And they just simply let the clipping happen or hide the ears....why can't all head gear be like that? I want my bunni boiz to have justice!

Viera have a totally different head mesh from the build used for every race made before Shadowbringers. The other old races just mostly copy paste with a few tweaks from the base model while Viera and Hrothgar require a lot more manual editing.

Honestly, this is why I support cosmetic mods. My WoL character is a Fem Miqo, and I love her because I've been playing her since I started, but her default proportions are super disappointing. Just let me add a little to her posterior, widen the hips a bit, add some muscle definition, and fluff up her tail a lot. These are small changes in the grand scheme of things. But I can't do this without mods. I love how my modded Miqo looks, though. And as long as I don't tell anyone in game or run my mouth about her name and server I don't have to worry about any official backlash.

I am relatively "new" to the game, and I have noticed the same! I play an Au Ra male and I have run into other players and even NPC with my main's identical features and even hairstyle over and over. Its rather disconcerting to say the least. That being said, I am loving this game!

As a Semi HC raider in both games I can confidently say: Leaving ESO for FFXIV was one of the best decisions I've ever made.

I'm somehow glad to discover with time, that my choices at character creation didn't make my character a stereotype which I can see at every corner. Even with the lack of personalization, I don't see a lot of characters that looked close to mine, and I'm happy with that. (Miqo'te male, the challenge was not easy tho XD Not on purpose either, I had no idea that it was one of the most played race in the game.) I even fear what that the improved textures at DT would alter my character how he is (and like I love him) now. Body types, choice of faces, and features... separate horns and faces for auras, more options for all these details that can make a character feels unique. For exemple, allow all makeup, tatoos and hairstyles to be inverted would be in my sense a great improvment. A symetrical option can change a face overall ! A lot more options at low cost. (I only use hairstyles that hide the right eye of my character, as he actually hides it. All hairstyles that hide left eye are excluded, you see what's the point in this exemple.)

Considering I did not make my miqo boy funny colors or more wild hair (he's kinda average in appearance, albeit still cute), I am honestly surprised I do not run into a lot of other miqo'te that look like me either. I see some NPCs with my same face, but I have yet to run into another miqo I am aware of that looks just like me or looks like my twin with a different hairdo. Maybe it is cause everyone else is trying to go for 'super unique design', that ironically, my coastal bumpkin doesn't have any look-alikes. I tend to also dress him in outfit combos I don't hardly ever run into.

You also have to look at how they do the gear on character models in games that allow you to change your character's proportions. Often times they do less build out details (like how much of your armor actually changes your character's silhouette, especially in the torso) and have over all simpler armor designs with more painted on details. Sure, they can have more detailed clothing pieces that alter your silhouette to greater degrees... but they usually don't, because it's easier to deform simpler designs without worry about strange things happening to them, like odd stretching or bending of elements. ESO does seem to have some armors that actually change character outline, but just looking through the catalogs of gear you can get, I am seeing a lot of them do in fact use baked on textures. One thing FFXIV gives us in exchange for having only a few body types is some really detailed armor that is not hard baked to the character model, but actually has it's own physical form, properties and adds depth to the character model surface. They actually look like they are wearing plate mail with depth of material, not just a fake out that is attached to the character's body. Even my form fitting Scavean armor actually changes the thickness and shape of my character's torso and adds a bit more thickness to his arms as though he put on actual clothing. To make armor of this same detail level, they would not be able to just rely on model deforming, but would have to make modifications to each armor set to fit every major body change. Imagine having to alter an armor set for five to six different body types, for EVERY race times every gender. If my math is correct, that is 84 versions of nearly every armor design. That would be a whole lot of work. It would also require a lot more system storage. They might be able to get away with letting us do some minor body tweaking as long as it doesn't get too extreme and be able to use model deforming without too many issues, but I don't think we will ever get major alteration. Not without losing quality in glam design.

What bothers me more is lack of Facepaint(makeup,tattos) / hair styles ( LONG hair styles for females) more hot hairstyles for MEN! / MORE THICK EYEBROWS options .. also we need way more glam armor/clothes!

For real. Female midlander Hyur have ONE tattoo option. Meanwhile, 'make up' options like blush, eyeshadow and 'eyebrow pencil' etc are all locked behind facepaint so you can only have one.

Yeah, even if a full, slider based system would be too resources intensive to implement at this point, SE could consider making 3-4 'body types' available to pick from? Combined with picking your character's hight that would already give us some variety in character design we don't have rn, where every miqo/elezen/... has the same silhouette as other members of their gender & (sub)race :/

To counterpoint this I think its a plus in some ways for the lack of goofy options. All the body types look pretty good with the worst imo being male au’ra so unless a person really hates on in game race in particular it never really becomes an issue. There is that and also so many people have armor or clothing on the body types wouldnt shine much I think anywho. Only thing I would like to change is giving au’ra fem and male all horn options rather than splitting them. Same with any other gender differences in the races.

3:30 min.: I only play pretty female charas :3 I wants to like what i see at the screan ^^ and a busty big b00b bunny girl is what i prefer :3 So nope im happy with how it is ^^ And hey i nearly dont saw someonce use my hair color :D Allone because of i used a blue hair color im special :3 Most of the people have black or blond charas. But anime be like hair colors be rare ^^ They exist but they are rare. So to find someonce that look simular to my chara is havy. Not only is her eye color and her make up and skin tone with a bit more tan more unique. Also i saw nearly no once with this kind of lip gloss on there chara lips. And then the acents that i set with my outher color in the hair. So yeah i feel special. Plus my name is also unique. Its gaves ONLY 1 outher person that have this name and this is a male cat boi xD I have the feeling that a former friend of me wants to troll me a bit. Because this outher chara is only lvl 9 and dont get played at all. Its feels like a friend that knows me wants to make a joke and anyoning me. What its did xD So its must someonce be that knows me pretty well ^^ Anyways. Have a great day ^^

First of all, I agree. I love how my Hrothgar looks. But unless you want to play a human or human-like character, your only option is to be a slouching, hulking mass of muscles. You cannot be athletic, slim, stout or lanky. I personally don't mind. But to have more options than "gymrat with bad posture" would be nice. Aside from the whole hair and hat disaster. On the other hand, though: Developing MMOs is difficult. The way character data is stored and loaded is extremely intricate. The amount of data you are allowed to have for a single character has to be kept minimal and was basically hard-coded into the system. A lot of the tangled code and the rest of the tech debt mosty stems from the short development of ARR. It was made in just 2 years. ESO took 7 years. We don't know half of what the developers have to battle with to keep this game stable and running when there are up to 200 characters in an instance. So, I agree and I am very frustrated by the lack of options. But I know enough that I am lenient on the devs. You can't just hired more programmers to make the game's code less tangled. There is a reason why FFXIV needed to be built from the ground up and they didn't just modify 1.0 until it was good.

But! i see a lot of interesting people from time to time like really colorful or try something out they are the real stars under everyone. yea i know what you mean by all of this in the video i also played eso but it didnt hit me that much just because of the fact that i cant just switch jobs like in ff14

Yeah, swapping classes at will is such a huge factor. Though ESO will forever have the whole everything is voice acted thing going for it. Huge selling point IMO.

I'd prefer more presets personally. I've always had to have a lot of help to make characters *I* wanted to play when the slider system is what's used. I am not artistic, at all, I have trouble crafting a character in games like the Dark Souls and TES games and actually hate the sheer amount of minute detail it gives you. My own Au Ra uses the most-used face in the game, but her nose, cheeks, jawline, and lips are *not* - despite coming across NPCs I know use the same face, they don't look like mine...And she certainly is no dainty, soft thing with no personality. Wild red facial markings, sharper features, and sharper eyes! And it still took me at least an hour to craft her with the options we have. If I had to suffer through sliders, I wouldn't even be here just as I am not in ESO. The presets look even worse because they're an ENTIRE body preset, not a palette of options you can select from.

Honest question, but if this was a real issue for you, why not just use mods? It really feels like the developers standpoint towards them is one of just... Don't bring it to the public eye. Tools like Mare allow you to see other peoples customized appearances, tools like Customize+ let you scale and recolor basically anything you could want, and people have new custom made animations and base models to pick from. I don't personally use much else but mare just so people can share what they want to look like with me (I personally love the base Au Ra female model, so don't feel any need to change it.) but just jumping around, everyone in my friend group looks vastly different from each other, for better or worse. :P I know people are a bit guarded against it, but tbh basically everyone I know who plays on PC uses mods, and they've never had any issue, just don't be dumb and keep it to yourself, or within trusted circles of people who also use them, and you're fine. o7 I agree the visual system is limiting, but I think XIV also looks a lot better then a lot of MMOs already, and allow for a really deep level of customization as is, even with how old the system is. Its not perfect, but if you want more, the options are there to invest your time to make the game whatever you want it to be, the devs can't solve every problem players have. /shrug. If I was to actually complain about anything, I think a lot of ARR clothing and armor textures are extremely pixelated and I'd rather have them cleaned up and brought into line with more modern armor more then anything.

Body sliders always look horrible and misshapen. I'd like more diverse body types, but I'd rather they utilize them in the way Hyur have Midlanders and Highlanders; separate options that are purposefully designed and allow for the developers to make sure armor looks good. The majority of customization is Glamour-based, and the armor needs to look like it fits. Leave the lumpy abominations with Oblivion, please.

I thought with the recent fan fest yoshi P addressed stuff with character customization. Like his response to wanting more inventory space, he said while it isn't their top priority they are looking into it. Whether they'll just... give more base game hairstyles, face options, unique options (such as cat tail, au ra tail/horns) or actually go all out is still very much up in the air. This could be something that comes out later in 7.0 expansion, or even further down the line in 8.0. It is disappointing the character customization is so limited, but it was reassuring to know that they at least SEE the problem.

What I find sad is that Viera and Hrothgar can not wear certain hats. Some defend it by saying they have a different head shape, but Endwalker was released in 2021, they had time to make an update to all hats till now or could have made changes, but decided to rest on the excuse of a different head shape to not do anything. They make so much money and could have outsourced the simple work of tweaking the hats if it was too much work for their own teams. Worse is, other people out here using the lazy excuse of different head shapes to defend a Company, that could probably solve the issue in less than a month if they actually wanted to. Sure I made my first character a Bunny boy, but it really disappointed me, when he could not wear certain hats. I mean modders out here doing better work than the game studio making mods so Viera can wear hats. But I don´t wanna be using mods, so a race can wear hats when the game itself banns mods users. This why I Switched to a cat boy, simply so I could slap a farmer hat on him, as it was all I wanted for my Viera.

@@Nazuiko Yeah but not really much when you think about how simple it would be for them, to change and fit every hat. As they have the resources for it and the power to hire people for it. They could have already changed every hat to fit these two races by now. Sure they made strides towards it, but like you said it is still a long way and after like 2-3 years you could expect them to have already done way more or have completed it already. Why even create two new races give them new Heads and knowingly release them, with many of the Hats not appearing for them. Why not work hard and have all hats fit after a year after the expansion? Sure they are working slowly on it, but people forget how big Square Enix is, how much money they make, and how easy it is to hire a smaller 3d studio to refit all hats for the new Heads.

I don't think the idea of the game being "fantastical" and the idea of I want to be a fat grumpy looking old man in my cutscenes are the same. You've played final fantasy for plenty of hours and the point is its a narrative story driven story. I don't think the team/lord and savior Yoshi-P wants to detract away from the story by having here. As fun as it would be it would 100% detract from the seriousness of all the cutscenes. As sad as that sounds its just an unfortunate consequence of what the team wants. While I would like to believe they'll give us slightly more custom options with Au Ra horns and maybe ears and such alter, I don't think it is a detraction of the game. NGL there's something nice about logging on and just seeing pretty pixels too instead of funny troll pixels- while there are some like the Weaboo guards that sit around Limsa sometimes. I just think "fantastical" and wanting to look "troll" are highly different. This is also more JP fantasy style where everyone is super pretty or handsome or rugged as opposed to high fantasy like ESO. Both are under the branch of fantasy, but definitely not the same, so I don't think its a right comparison.

There are also more practical reasons why trying to implement overly diverse body types to the game would not work well, and it has a lot to do with how FFXIV handles clothing and armor as rarely being of the 'baked on texture' nature you see in games like WoW and Guild Wars 2. FFXIV armor and clothing are not often built out of the character's model or simply painted on to it (there might be exceptions), but actually tend to exist as their own layer on top of the character model, actually altering their physical silhouette like real clothing articles do. Problems arise when you try to use model deforming on these, which is what most games that allow for body type sliders do. Trying to rely on model deforming could make for warped elements that look bad and broken.

@@genisay And Au ra are lizards, wherein more often the females of the species are larger than the men. Didn't stop them from making the Au ra ladies itty bitty waifs which are virtually indistinguishable from miqo girls. I just want to play as a lady with big muscles, I don't think it's too much to ask for that ONE of the female options is buff. Especially when male roe and hroth exist in the game already, so they've shown they can do it.
