Actually it was a good approach. After the war Koreans need to bundle their strengths and build something together. Just like Germany, there are some big well known companies today like BMW,Bosch,Siemens,etc. But Many smaller companies in Germany are working behind these companies as suppliers. So the success of the big companies will be distribute to the smaller companies. Instead of every small company tried to build their own car with less chance to success, they try to work together. This approach is very effective especially when the country has very little resources to begin with. Korea is no different with Samsung, Hyundai, etc. BUT at certain point the goverment needs to open opportunity for other new companies to thrive, otherwise they will monopolize every sector of the industry. EU has its own body to evaluate it. May be Korea needs to do the same.

In fact, I would argue that for many, their accent can be a bit thick that it can be a bit difficult to understand. His is very clear, good pronunciation, especially the 'R" sound when mixed with the "l" such as in "world". This is not easy to pronounce (the way we, Americans do) and he does it incredibly well!

As a foreigner who has been to Korea and will move to Korea soon / have a Korean partner, I can say that Korea looks good on the outside but underneath all the glam are deeply rooted issues. It is truly sad. I can imagine giving birth there but I cannot imagine raising my kid/s there their entire childhood and living there as a family for the rest of my life. Families and especially kids deserve healthy environments and needless to say, even Koreans know the environment is toxic in both the school system and working culture. And those are only SOME of the issues. It is our duty as parents of the future generation to create a healthy space for our kids and family to live. No excuses ❌ Health, love and joy comes first. It definitely stresses me out too and I’m not even Korean. I pray that God makes a way for me and my family one day. (And other families in Korea) Pray for Korea 🙏🏻

Truth is, korea is actually a good place to raise kids. Koreans don't need to force their kids to adopt the korean schooling system. And assuming you don't want to live in Central seoul, rent and property prices are not that expensive. The problems is so many koreans spend tons lots of money on unnecessary education

@@CaliforniaDreams-eb8sx As I understand it, even parents don't have control over most of the issues. Because there are too many factors that contributes to the toxic school system. Such as, how much homework their kids get, how early they need to get up for school and how late they get back home etc... The Korean Hagwons or any after school academy, should not even have certain hours of studying available. The options presented and carried out by the schools are problematic. And as a private English teacher who teaches English to Korean parents every single day, I have mothers telling me how their kids are made fun of or simply looked down on, if they do not attend these expensive academies which results in no life outside of studying and very VERY little sleep. A student also told me that as a mother she has no idea what to do cause she does not have money to put her child in certain academies but if she does not, the kid will fall behind. Nothing will change unless the system changes or unless all parents start home schooling their kids. (which is highly unlikely) Additionally; My Korean partner also told me he STILL struggles to sleep even at 29 years old cause of his schedule since a young age. And I have personally heard of many other Koreans stuggling with insomnia due to their over loaded schedule during their school years. And due to this, I plan on home schooling my kids if I have to stay in SK long term ~ because I really believe that is the best solution to my kids from burning out

South Korea is incredibly wealthy and has wildly successful companies, so why is it that working South Korean people do not have enough time or money to enjoy life? Where does the wealth generated by workers in South Korea end up? (It definitely does not get invested into childcare or extra education like cram school) The wealth is collected at the top, by the owner/capitalist class, through profits from overpriced products and exploiting/underpaying workers (being paid less than the value that they create). Aslo, more the importance of not going broke when he has to support his family with a dead end job at his age to pay off the mortgage of said home. The Japanese yen is also crashing so there's more to it other than feeling envy towards what he has over others.

I suspect that the main reason for your stress, competitive environment, pressure, low birth rate etc is that Koreans are very judgmental and strict to each other. If someone is not within the acceptable limits, norms etc is highly judged. It is like there is a specific scenario that is written for all of you and if you deviate....you are considered a failure. People cannot live their lives happily under such circumstances. The financial pressure and the daily struggle for survival is universal but I think in Korea all aspects of people's lives are under extreme pressure. Of course this is just my personal opinion and I should just mention that I have never been in Korea, nor I have any Korean friends. It is just an opinion that was formed while observing the relevant culture through media, films, series etc. ❤ As you know everything in life.... Has a cost. This is one of the costs paid for your rapid development. I believe that the dynamics of your culture will eventually balance things out. ❤😊

Yes, this is it. I am korean, my immediate family lives in korea, but I live overseas. Korea is nice place to live. Safe, very few slum areas, and most areas are clean. The problem is most koreans were led to believe that we can all achieve success with a white collar job. But there is only so many of those. Korean youth unemployment is high. And the countries wealth keeps getting more concentrated. Business and academic environments are so competitive too so everyone feels they need to work extra to get the promotion or even keep their job. Most korean problems are really self inflicted. The same korean mind that made korea richer is also the same mind that is judgemental and afraid of judgement from others.

All of them ended up attending colleges here in the US and are now in the process of getting their citizenship. I've grown up everywhere from starting from Seoul, then France and North America. And I went back to work in Seoul and in few cities in Europe. I think it's quite common people marry late and have children late. Not just in Korea but every big cities. But the problem is that most young people end up in Seoul, where 75% of its national population remains. So with housing, job search problem- people have their hands full. I feel raising a child does cost, but not that much to hold off. Rather than money, a child requires us to be more mentally strong, available, and patience. But these qualities are what people lack when they live in a densely populated, high competitive, hcol cities.

I'm happy for you that you are a proud Korean. I plan to visit Korea in the near future. I have had some koreans I met in the UK tell me they are depressed living in Korea. The people in the cities especially do not get to have enough time to relax and socialize and they are unable to really feel the warmth of living. Also beauty standards expected in the professional field. So I could live in Korea but I could not work in Korea. I like my soft life. My advise to everyone there is to go into entreprenuership, start a youtube channel or something that does not involve the typical work culture there so people can be free enough to appreciate and enjoy the good things in life and embrace foreigners. There are many good things every culture and society can teach and learn from eachother to positively impact lives.

We have similar concerns here in the US. The cost of living is out of control and salaries do not keep up. Also, generationally, people aren't as interested in marriage and children as the older generations were. Young people here prefer to stay single. Marriage rates have plummeted as well. We have a very similar Sausage in Sweden. Falukorv (Falu Sausage) but it's made of pork. Reguarding the birthrates, S Korea might try and fix it with high immigration. But that is a temporary solution that creates new problems and if it keeps happening, Korea will be less korean with every decade.

I LOVE gosari I had it in Korea last year and I wish I could buy it in Australia! It's delicious! I believe in English it is known as 'fernbrake'. I think its from Bracken Fern and I guess this is the baby fronds of it. Bracken fern grows wild here but I'm not 100% sure if it's the same plant or safe to eat.

Even though I'm just a random person watching a video, it was wonderful to share a meal with you. I ate an omelet with onions, peppers, and avocado salsa. I eat this every other day, and I'm a little jealous of how varied your meal looked! It also seemed like you prepared it at home, I like the culture of having many small side dishes with a meal. Thank you for making this video, it's soothing to have simple content in a sea of normalized heavily editted content. Also, while it's not quite the same, I'm also experiencing something like this in NYC at 26. Competitive education, gave up working hard, everything is expensive, low birth prospects (though it's very different here with the immigrant culture). The current global generation of highly developed cultures have a lot of challenges, yet despite the differences we both get front row seats, so I look forward to seeing this play out alongside you.

Great job on the video. We're about the same age. I feel like you're the Korean version of me. I'm Mexican. 33 years old going on 34. I'm not Korean, but I too worry that the birth rates in Korea are the lowest in the world and well below the replacement levels. I've read somewhere it said that if the rates continue how they are, the Koreans could be extinct in the future. However, it's not just Korea, but a lot of countries in the world have low birth rates now. Many are also below replacement levels. Some are at or just very slightly above replacement levels. The fertility levels have dropped with all countries around the world. Few countries have above replacement levels, and even those have much less than they did in the 1950s, 60s, or even 90s. Yes, even Middle East and african countries. I want to say your English is very good, many Koreans struggle with English. What I like about Koreans is they always share stuff about their country, I like Korean food too. It's very impressive that Korea went from being one of the poorest countries in the world to one of the richest in just 30-40 years. Hope things turn around for the future of Korea.

As others have mentioned, please reduce plastics use around food. Never ever microwave plastics, they release toxic chemicals. Same with putting hot food in plastic storage containers. Also please use wood for chopping, when cutting food on plastic small amounts are released into the food. Stay healthy!

You can microwave polypropylene(PP) and polyethylene(PE) containers. PVC and PET can be toxic when microwaved. Actually you shouldn't use these two for food (keeping alcohol is even worse) as they are source of microplastic.

I am from Pennsylvania in the United States and I live in an area with a high Korean diaspora. I always knew that behind all of the K-Pop and K-Dramas that the country that those things come from has lots of issues within itself. Lots of foreigners and especially Westerners fantasize about Korea being so great and so fun because of pop culture and technology. I’m 29 gonna be 30 next year and things aren’t good in the U.S. either. I live on my own and I have a primary W2 job and a side hustle but I make out okay financially. I can tell you’re intelligent keep telling the world what you know so it gets a better understanding of your country. Much respect for you.

I don't think that Finland is a rich country. Compared to Russian Federation sure, the average person is richer. But overall not that rich. It's just because the Russian Federation is a colonial government. Germany is one too by the way. Both are importing foreigners disregarding the interests of local people. Many countries in Europe are like that. Rich or good life, for whom I wonder? Not the common person.

As a foreigner working in South Korea in manufacturing sector, I myself, have been long saddened every single day with the lifestyle of the locals here. I have korean co-worker at the age of 20, 25 working for 12 hours in our company Monday to Saturday. They only have 1 day to rest. There's no such thing as work-life balance here. I can accept the fact, that I work the same with them, but this is what I really came here, to work long overtime to save more money as a foreign worker. But I just cant imagine the fact, that the youth of this country are already obliged to work excessively that early age. Which is one of the main reasons why south korea has the lowest birth rate in the world. Not just the young ones, but many old locals 60-70 yrs old are still eager to work in long hours. They dont have any time for their families and this really really makes me sad. All they do is to work, go home and sleep, then go back to work. I am hoping that the government of SK would come up with law to lessen the hours of work so they can have more time with their families. On the other hand, I always treat my korean co-workers as a younger brothers and make them laugh to brighten up their day. ♥♥♥

Gosari is actually the shoots of the bracken fern, not roots of the plant. I featured harvesting gosari from the mountains on my channel last year. Now im lucky enough to have it growing in my backyard. On the other topic, Busan has some really good incentives now to boost the birth rate. I'd be looking into them if I wasn't married.

You need to understand you are very lucky to live in such a safe peaceful place. The value system needs to be in relationships with others not monetary value’s. The old lie of you will be happy if you can have this or that (career, house, status, designer clothing, and so on) is just not true. You are correct you will lose this wonderful peaceful society if you do not have off spring and most importantly teach the values you were taught. The values that helped build your peaceful safe society. Family is the most valuable thing you will ever have that includes having off spring (children). It is a great sacrifice you learn to be less self centered. That really is not a bad thing. But that is not what the world teaches.

It's very true. Family is extremely important, and it's benefits outweigh things like an expensive car, or a cool property. Children are extremely profitable when you put effort into them- whether that be emotionally, financially, or by making you feel mentally satisfied.

Thank you for your video, it’s so interesting to hear the perspective of a citizen of SK. Though the birth rate in your country might be particularly low, I know that this is an issue in many countries today. Here in America too- my two young adult children don’t want to have children because they feel the world has become a very difficult place to live in with not enough hope as to economic mobility, human compassion and the issue of climate change looming large in the future. I hope all of us worldwide can figure out ways to cope with our societal issues. Mankind is pretty amazing and caring- we just need to figure out how to work together without hate and bias and we can conquer our challenges. Another reason perhaps is that it’s still a very patriarchal society. Though it’s changing, a lot of the child rearing and housework is still done by the woman… on top off having their own careers. A lot of women these days have the option not to get married and take on the extra work that comes with marrying a man who refuse to copartner while raising a family. This is a common theme I’ve noticed not just in SK but also elsewhere.

It’s not so much that as it is about money and living expenses. I’ve heard Korean people say that it’s just too expensive to have children and live comfortably. There’s a lot of pressure to send kids to good academies and that usually requires money. Not to mention housing.

Low birth rate is prevalent in first world countries. I’m from Singapore and many young couples are not giving birth, either they have reproductive setbacks due to health issues or choose not to give birth. It’s sad. Our government is handling out 💰 to encourage people to give birth, the more children you have the higher the handouts. Still people are not reproducing enough with stress, high cost of living and preference for individual freedom being the main contributing factors. I personally think one cannot have the best of both worlds, you need to make sacrifices for the things you want. For those who have children, they will understand what a fulfilling life truly means, even if they’re living a less indulgent lifestyle than those without children. ❤

Im not surprised that you are deeply concerned but, yes...all of those factors plays a major role in the decision of both singles and couples. There's a saying, " Too much demand gives so little time to enjoy life. And thats because the lives of others are not a considerable option for those who are at the top".
