You get used to the screen really quickly, but you can press and hold the right button to do anything via voice command (Open glovebox, turn on heated seat). I programmed a long press of the left button to open the glovebox. Security of the glovebox is important as the USB with the dashcam recordings are stored on it. Also unlike the range rover I know it'll work every morning. The biggest downside to it is the lack of adjustable headrests. That's it. The rest of it just works. I have a model Y and it’s an awesome car. Once you set it up you rarely need to touch the screen. Great range, loads of space and very quick. And you can do almost everything by voice so again no need to use the screen. As a previous petrol head for 40 years I wouldn’t go back there now.

First sensible comment on here - if Matt had done even a little research beforehand with like You Tube videos he would have set the car up in the car park at Tesla and not been messing around with the screen whilst driving. At least he did actually buy the car despite not because of the test drive. Also with the opening up of the Tesla charging network to non Teslas buying a Tesla because of the Tesla supercharging network is invalid reasoning.

I’ve read most of the comments and as a Tesla model Y owner most of peoples concerns were my own until I bought one! But in all honesty it’s a great A to B car! Cheap insurance, no road tax ‘for now’, service every 2 years and most importantly I do 500 miles per week and it cost me £11 in electricity is a no brainer! You don’t look at the screen as much as you think, the Tesla assistant does most of it for you “set temp to 22C” done! Standard auto pilot on M25 is a god send! What it does make you is a very lazy driver because the car does everything pretty much! But apart from a cost point of you even if you have to pay road tax, monthly electric bill for me is £31 (octopus energy). Tesla supercharging network is fantastic! I live and work in London so it makes perfect sense for me, so unless I win the lottery and can afford to buy a brand new Aston Martin I’ll stick with my Tesla for now!
@bloodstockvip21767 ай бұрын
Once you have your head around the screen, they're way easier to operate than buttons or how your 1st impressions make you believe. I was the same, then someone told me about the voice button (on the right of the wheel, that does everything you'll ever need) and you can shortcut anything else you like to the bottom for quick access (seat heating is there already, in plain sight and if a passenger gets in, you get a 2nd controller on their side automatically). Wait until you work out the Tesla app as a key and on winter morning's toastie hot/defrosted Tesla without hardly any battery use via awesome heat pump system and summer ice cold interior pre-cooled moments, it's a game changer). Don't use the key card keys, just your mobile and oin to drive, doddle. The glovebox is also pin protected and on the screen as the sentry system (also standard which records the outside and inside of the car when parked up with about 10 cameras), has a memory card in there so you can protect any attempted break in footage or lock valuables in the car with valet mode for use at airport parking (you can even limit the speed and acceleration in that mode via the app). Honestly, it's so well thought out that as a petrol head, as I am too, it's annoyingly good. I'm 2 year's in now and 25k miles with no service costs, there are none from Tesla, one new set of tyres as the only bill and 2 interior cabin filters at £40 every 2 years to replace. Zero issues, £4.90 on Octopus Go for 300 odd miles motoring, very cheap motoring still I'd argue if you can home charge of course, otherwise more costly.

silly statement to make, insurance is more expensive on an ev, eat through tyres and are more expensive in the first place to carry it's lardy weight around... damage the battery, it needs replaced and even then with battery degradation give it 5 years and the cars worthless as it will need replaced at the cost of multiple thousands of pounds. enough people make the transition to EVs and the government are going to massively increase the cost per kwh of electricity from home chargers through smart meter monitoring and will know when your charging an ev through the massive draw of electricity as they will be losing too much revenue from fuel duty and vat , they're also introducing road tax to EVs as well soon so any slight advantage an ev ever had over an ice car will be lost and then some 😂

As a petrolhead who’s had many high power cars over the years and just made the switch, you NEED a dual motor version which gives much better range, power and sound system. It costs about £4 to fully charge at home and sub 4 seconds to 60 with a genuine sports car feel, you get used to the screen, most of the shortcuts are to the lower right hand side. Don’t forget voice commands that ACTUALLY work, unlike BMW, JLR etc. The supercharger network is excellent and easy to you use. @michaelr45737 ай бұрын
50% VAT reduction is claimable on any new car used for a mix of business and personal use, irrespective of engine type. As you state the main benefit is that company car employee tax is charged at 2% BIK for any EV, whilst say a 1.6 diesel is charged at often 32% BIK. Combined with alternative salary sacrifice schemes that are exlusively for EVs only, the rest of the UK is massively subsidising these EVs by billions of pounds each year based upon flimsy assumptions about sustainability and overall emissions.

100% agree if you're buying a car personally. But there are huge tax incentives for businesses that only apply to new electric cars. They're 130% tax deductible; which in short will save High Peak in the region of £11,000 in Corporation Tax in the first year by buying this Tesla on HP. You don't get this buying a second hand car only new. Its the governments way to try to get more new EV's on the road. That is why you'll see lots of business owners with brand new EV's because they're brilliant to bring down your corporation tax and are cheap as hell for the employee costs like £15-30 a month in income tax where as a BMW 3 Series is like £180-350 a month in tax.

I’ve never been a fan of EV. However I test drove the Model Y performance and loved it. The acceleration was astonishing and I love the tech. I thought I would hate the screen but it’s absolutely fine when you’re used to it. Also the voice commands improve the more you use it. As an example say “I’m a bit cold” and it turns the heat up slightly. It’s a good car. I don’t miss the engine and love the smoothness. Did a trip from South Wales to London last weekend. Got to London with 45% left, told me on the way back to stop at Membury for 13 minutes to charge for the rest of the way, the car was ready before I even finished my piss. Supercharger network makes it a none issue. Those who slate it or any EV without actually trying one for a few days do not know what they’re talking about. However, having the ability to charge at home is the kicker, if you don’t have the ability to do that then I would probably say don’t bother. Now I haven’t bought this car, it’s done through work on salary sacrifice and the cost of fuel a month for my X5 is what I’m paying for the Tesla, which also includes insurance, tyres etc. it was a no brainer.
