Careful! In this society, saying that the ‘answer lies in genetics and there’s nothing I can do’ can be considered ‘hate.’ Doesn’t everyone know that if my chromosomes show XX then I can literally CHANGE THE DEFINITIONS to FORCE science to APPEAR as if it can be altered…when it cannot. And saying that it cannot, and refusing to acknowledge a person’s desired scientific condition can be considered not only ‘hate’ but WORSE…‘hurting their feelings.’ No ones feeling are allowed to be hurt. My son is a doctor and I have to hear him come home all the time and say ‘we are in a society where we have to praise someone as ‘stunning and brave’ if they have no clothes on but THINK they do, because the actual truth is something they don’t want to hear. And ‘I have to smile and say how lovely their outfit is, while all the while knowing it doesn’t exist.’ He works for UC Health in Colorado (the top teaching hospital in Colorado and one of the nations best) and will literally spend all day on a Sunday visit saying how ‘nearly every’ doctor feels the same way except for the ones PROFITING off of the medical treatments a teenage kid will have FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIFE so that they can APPEAR as the sex they are not, despite the answer lying within every single cell of their body. It’s a real crisis in medicine! Many doctors refuse to socialize or mix with the ones profiting off of a confused teen, while permanently destroying their body and almost certainly cutting their lifespan short.

I once had a dermatologist willing to be honest with me. I struggle with reactiveness to products so I wanted to know what would make the biggest difference for my skin. She told me the crucial items you need are: proper hydration and diet, a gentle cleanser and exfoliant, a good moisturizer, a good sunscreen consistently used, and good sleep. The rest is genetics or treatments that are mainly temporary. She encourages her clients to use the treatments if they make them feel more confident, but most of those treatments really only give a temporary/minor polish.

100% agree that vitamin E does not help with scars, but regarding genetics, there are things you can do to surpass someone with amazing genetics who doesn't. (I'm not just speaking about SPF, which is obvious). It's possible to delay aging and reverse a LOT just through Microneedling. No procedure that I have done in my life was as helpful as the high-quality derma pen I got for around 100$.

Yeah sure, during the years I have tried almost everything to look younger + delay aging as much as possible, anything from face exercises, vitamin C serum, Fraxel, collagen supplements and of course Retin A (7 years straight), home devices and what not. I swear, Nothing made any real difference compared to microneedling. Within 3 months of use, my skin has improved DRAMATICALLY. I don't look like I'm 20's again, but definitely not 44 either. My fine lines have disappeared completely, and my nasolabial folds are way less are nonexist (never had jowls though). Even the scars that I had since childhood are gone. People often underestimate the power of wounding and the revolutionary effects it can have on the skin and instead spending thousands of dollars on useless procedures.

Genetics are important but they’re not everything. Too much sun is bad. We need sun. It’s great. But don’t get burned. Don’t smoke. Don’t drink. Diet and lifestyle are just as important as genetics. Great genetics can still be wrecked by alcohol and cigarettes by drugs and poor diet and lifestyle.

@@LMiddie When she says powder, that’s the spray type of sunscreen?
@LMiddie
@LMiddie Ай бұрын
@@kayo5291 Nope, there’s SPF powder makeup (like, powder foundation with SPF, or setting powder with SPF) and people tend to assume that you have to use the product normally in order to get the SPF rating, but it’s actually kind of a scam because you have to use as much of it as you’d use of a sunscreen cream, and if you used that much makeup it would look very bad and you’d also be out of it very quickly because they’re usually not giant tubs of powder. There are powder sprays, but I haven’t seen any for sunscreen personally. Typically sprays are liquid, and you still need to apply the same amount that you would of cream in order to get the rated amount, but most of the time people assume that it’s a more reasonable, functional amount of spray, and also don’t think of the amount that doesn’t end up on their face.

@@user-kf6my1ql3s Truthfully I hadn't heard of that product! I think with any product that has SPF (whether it's marketed as an SPF or not) as long as you are applying the recommended amount (2 finger lengths for thicker formulas, 3-4 for thinner more liquid like) and it's at least SPF broad spectrum 30 then you're good. No matter what the product is! I made that comment because some people rely on the SPF in makeup alone to give them the protection. You would typically have to apply an unflattering amount to get the listed amount of SPF. Not always the case if it's a more sheer product...

@@user-kf6my1ql3sif it’s just on your face you’ll still need SPF on ears neck throat chest hands arms etc. Any part of your body that is exposed. Genetics does play a huge role for many people, but in my case, I genuinely don't think it's a factor. No one in my family has amazing, flawless skin. And I look younger now in my thirties than I did in my twenties solely due to some things I have incorporated into my lifestyle. Consistent skincare, sun protection, balanced diet & collagen/multivitamin supplements have helped my skin immensely. People often comment that my skin glows and I love hearing that because I have worked hard for my skin. No botox or laser or chemical peels, just skincare and supplements.

I’m prone to getting all sorts of weird pigmentation on my skin, I’ve also been using sunscreen since I was 14 and religiously avoiding the sun, I just turned 27 and on my birthday I had a random person ask me if I was 16 and a friend of my parents asked me if I was turning 21. Genetics are 100% important, but man, sun protection is a life saver.

Thank you for your honesty! I guess I’m on the blessed side. I’m 64, and I don’t have any wrinkles, but my mom was in her late 80’s and had very, very few wrinkles, maybe just a few fine lines. My sister was blessed with great skin as well. However, we made sure to stay out of the sun and no drinking or recreational drugs or heavy late night partying. I think that helped as well.

As a NP for 28 years who is closing in on 60 (yes that IS a recent photo) THANK YOU for “TRUTH BOMBING” AND NEVER EVER STOP!!!! To have you along with a very few select MD’s (Specialists in whatever their chosen field may be) come on to YT and ACTUALLY SPEAK THE TRUTH, no sugar coating and zero placation, I can not ever tell you THANK YOU enough! Yes, you are most assuredly sticking to our Hip-O in doing so however, your personal ethics and morals are what shine through and you will have my eternal gratitude for it. If what you just said, stops ONE PERSON from looking in the mirror and disliking what they see (dislike would be the understatement of the decade) then you have performed a miracle right there. To have these young men and women LEARN that GENETICS play an enormous role in our skin, hair, teeth etc etc will, if nothing else, help them to take the correct step in researching how to look after THEIR OWN skin vs what some Celeb is hawking this week. It is a start but an integral one for countering what society has already done to them. Between society and SM, some do not stand a chance in learning to look in that mirror and LOVE what they see and KNOW that they can be healthier which RESEARCH will show them vs SM or some Celeb. YOU, dear Doctor, have become MY new hero.❤ PLEASE do not ever stop “TRUTH BOMBING” any and ALL who watch you! If there is ONE thing missing on any SM platform, it is 100% TRUTH TELLING based on pure and solid FACT! BE THAT PERSON!!! (Rather….CONTINUE to BE THAT DOCTOR!!!❤🙏🏻).

I know you are dermatologist, but wouldn’t you say that lifestyle can outplay genetics? People compliment my skin all the time but when I tell them that I don’t drink alcohol, I don’t smoke anything, I easily drink a gallon of water a day, been a health freak since I was 17 (I’m 37)… they are often no longer interested because they find out that I do things which they aren’t willing to live by. I have oily acne prone skin from prepuberty & extremely hormonal breakouts during & before menses. I’ve also never smoked. I always use SPF as well so no wrinkles etc. unlike many contemporaries who get v cross with my answer when they ask me what I use for my skin 🤷🏼‍♀️ 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️ People want easy solutions. I understand that because it makes one unsociable so I’m no longer that strict. I will celebrate with friends & enjoy life. The downside is I see & feel it in my body. I accept it as the price I pay for having friends in my life. Many people can eat drink smoke do what they like and have amazing skin & bodies. I think a healthy lifestyle definitely can only add to it, but there are plenty of examples of people having unhealthy lifestyles with smoking, drinking, excess sugar , sunbathing that doesn't affect their skin at all. That's where genetics beats lifestyle, because imagine what your skin would look like with your family history and not doing all of the work you've done? You have to have this lifestyle and continue it for the foreseeable future whereas people with genetics on their side don't suffer the negative effects as much.

Think lifeguard with sunscreen lotion over his nose. They were zinc based. That’s does help prevent burning. Drinking water most of the time instead of other things, also helps the skin look better. Thousand percent true. I'm part Italian but blonde. I had a friend who had a completely different skin type than mine when we were young. Her skin was so poreless and beautiful but a bit dry. Mine, OILY city - I hated it because I would get breakouts. We went to the beach and laid out together for hours - it was the 80's of course - now I'm 57 and I wouldn't say I "look young" because that's always a relative idea, but my skin is in much better shape and looks nicer than hers just because of my genes. I hated my oily thicker skin and oily scalp when young, but now I'm thankful.

I used to have nearly flawless skin, and as soon as I realized I started aging, I overreacted by buying products. Truth bomb: most skin care products aren't actually good for you, and commercials are designed to lie to you. There might be some things out there that are better for you, but it's best to wait for your skin to recover. Best routine: 1. Use as little products on your face as possible. 2. The greener/more wholesome your diet, the better 3. Shower regularly after heavy sweating, but avoid direct contact with the water on your face (cold water is preferred) 4. Heavy exercise will stimulate your collagen in your whole body, but intense cardio will do the most for your skin. It makes you sweat the most, which releases all of the impurities in your skin (just shower the sweat off).
