I guess his logic was “What if you break up with her, then she goes to her stepdad and our songs won’t be allowed on the radio anymore?” “I mean it’s kind of obvious that she likes me back. Besides, this is a Disney movie, there is no breaking up after the happily ever after.” “I don’t know what you see in her, you must have a weird face fetish.” “No comment?”
@Larissawesome4 жыл бұрын
It’s also pretty obvious that she’s just supposed to be shy, but she’s played more like she has really severe, borderline debilitating social anxiety. Like this girl can’t even write on the board without having a panic attack, while everyone else in her life is just like “oh, she’s shy”. Like HUH
@arabellawatches4 жыл бұрын
Exactly! I do know a few people who act like her, it annoys me how many people can't tell she has severe social anxiety, and I would stretch it even to autism (hence the lack of ability to socialize, imitate social conventional attitudes, etc), but sure, let's go with 'cringy'.

the stepdad is honest to god my favorite character. all of his motivations in this movie are centered around trying to make tara feel more comfortable around him, and helping her grow and learn to stand up for herself. the scene where he finds out tara is radio rebel, he's there because he's trying to connect and bond with her through something he figures a lot of kids her age like. then he gives her a platform with a better and more professional setup and reach for her show, he supports her even when he doesn't agree with the way she's handling things with the principal, and he throws her a GIANT PARTY FOR THE ENTIRE JUNIOR AND SENIOR CLASS TO ATTEND FOR FREE. stepdad is always there for tara (not to mention he really loves her mom and makes her happy). i love stepdad

It’s different once they get married. Suddenly the person isn’t just some guy your mother likes, he’s actually your dad. Right up until they’re actually married it feels like that. Especially when you’ve experienced your biological parents’ divorce, you’re very easily convinced that any relationship either of your parents gets is temporary (and even after marriage that persists to some degree).
