This is a year late but... this is literally me. I've worked in the same job for 10 years. Because I've spent about 5 years of that, pushing my misery into the pit of my stomach, my mental health has taken a major toll. I am just about to do a 2nd interview for brand new career path. I'm scared absolutely shitless. BUT I had to work through all those feelings of fear and unworthiness and anxiety. I applied for a few jobs and it was really, really hard. Now, I'm essentially three weeks or so away from walking out of a building that's been my 2nd home for 10 years. You can do it. In fact, you NEED to do it. It can be an uncomfortable feeling but it's your mind's way of fighting against the current of change. As far as a "passion" the only thing I know I'm passionate about is charity type work. To know that I'm getting up every day to make a difference in someone's life and not just helping some old geezer in the CEO chair collect his million dollar paycheck off me; that was something I could get behind. I'm moving from media to work in a children's therapy office. Not sure if you've done any soul searching since your comment, but I think it's really important to go through your passions with a fine tooth comb and start looking at job/careers that go along with those passions. Meditation and books have helped me the last year or so. Good luck and I hope you are able to find some peace.

@@bambamloverThis is awesome advice, I’m happy you found something you love to do! How did you come to the realization you loved to do charity work? Did you do a lot of during your time outside of work? Was is only some deep self reflection? Personally I’ve been so focused on the grind that it’s up until now I realized that this just isn’t very fulfilling to me. Now I’m stuck wondering “So what am I passionate about?”. I never seriously thought of that question because my main focus was to just get money this whole time. So it’d be nice to hear what you did to find that out for yourself.

This is so me. I make 20/hr in medical in a small southern town. I set my own hours, but that's because I'm at risk of getting called almost any time of day plus weekends. I want to put my fist through a wall when my phone rings. I basically wait all day Saturday for them to call and if they don't, I wasted the whole day watching my phone. I can't count how many deep sleep cycles I've had ruined over the years because I got called at 3 or 4 in the morning. I've been there over a decade with little chance of getting laid off and now the devil I know is better than the one I don't.

I'm also scared so I might not be of help to you. I think first, you evaluate the things that make you unhappy and see if you can find a solution or improve your situation. If you can't, then try looking for other job opportunities, just look at the work requirements and salaries offered. From there, you will be able to gauge if you have the skills needed for other jobs and if the salary is higher. Also, think about your future goal, what you want to achieve a few years from now.
