I absolutely loved this single. It's funky and the recording manages to get across how confident they're feeling right now. I saw them live in Toronto last week and you can tell they are locked in. I'm not sure Anthony has ever sung better than on this tour to be honest.

Went to the show here in Detroit earlier this month which is the second time seeing them live (2014 was the first with Klinghoffer on guitar) and it was without a doubt one of the most entertaining and emotionally engaging performances I've ever witnessed musically while being significantly better than the first time seeing them live. I have been a huge fan ever since I started listening (26 years old and became a fan when I turned 8) but I felt so extremely privileged and downright lucky to be handed the opportunity to witness one of the first guitar players I was ever obsessed with and one who was essential to my development over my nineteen years of playing guitar while still utilizing a lot of the subtleties Frusciante is known for. I am so glad to have bought tickets for the show and their musical chemistry is something all musicians should witness live, my fiancee is a fan (not familiar with their live improvisation abilities going into the concert) but even she was absolutely blown away by Chad, Flea, and John's ability and chemistry when performing live together with all of the really spontaneous jamming before, during, and between all nineteen songs they played that night. I'm lucky she didn't think that I was being a complete cornball when I started to get emotional when John was playing an extended solo during "Don't Forget Me" as I never thought I'd ever be able to see the true chili peppers with one of the most personally influential guitarists in my lifetime and it is still rather emotional to me in retrospect. Chad and Flea are as tight rhythmically as they have ever been and John is getting more comfortable and into his groove with each successive performance (thankful the Detroit show was in the middle of the tour so John had time to shake off most of the rust from not playing guitar live for over a decade.)

Frusciante s over rated as PHUCK!!! Talk about using the same Hendrix sound, the same gilmour licks, and let the groove of his bandmates do the rest of the work. And don't even get me started on his riff craft, wich is inexistent. And u call that lucky junkie a god? Be honest and tell u like him so much, and end it being real. The bands tight as phuck with or without him, and have replaced him successfully. You want me to get into his vocal chorus his does backing Keidis? Phuck John.

RHCP has a funny way of using the simpler songs for singles. They did that with Unlimited Love this year. The singles they used were incredible but also the weakest material on the album (which says a lot about how good the album was). I have a feeling the rest of this record is going to be the same! John takes a lot of influence from hardcore punk and glam/ prog rock so the less is more approach has been super prominent on his contributions especially in the 2000’s.

Everythings very clean. Lacking attitude. Lacking soul. Its been this way and gone downhill since Californication. Chillis of old were in your face, loud and aggresive. Live is a different matter. They're still damn fine to watch live, which is refreshing. But studio - wise? Nah, its all a bit Vanilla for me. Is it because they older? Maybe. Stopped doing drugs? Dunno. But again, they are now very very different. Myself, like other older Chillis fans recognise that its almost like two bands. The one of old, and the one of now.

Hey Justin, I love your videos, you are always very respectful to other artists wether you like them or not. I'm a HUGE red hot fan (asterisk tattoo and all haha) and I honestly think that the Red Hot reached their peak with Californication, which carried on to By the way and Stadium Arcadium but everything else from there has just been music "strictly for their fan base" if that makes any sense. Like we all know there is not going to be another By the Way or Dani California, songs that are so ground breaking, but they are playing safe. Which is not bad, in fact it makes sense and is perfect because that way they are still making music. However it can be frustrating for people who are not fans, but more casual to them. I really like their last album Unlimited Love and it had amazing songs and I have high hopes with this new one. One thing to note, perhaps these new albums are not their bests, but they are putting a BRUTAL live show. its a great opening for their album, I hope it is the first track. I hope there is a 17minute jam session track in the style of Iron Butterfly. Chad Smith deserves a huge chunk to shine. Very excited for this. Hated unlimited love. Hopefully UL it was the castoffs of the good double album and they planned a sick return year.

Mr. Hawkins! Could you consider making a video about Alain Johannes? He is such an amazing musician and songwriter; IMO more people need to know who he is and the music he has made/produced. The beginning of this video reminded me that a few members of RHCP were Johannes’ backing band in the 80’s before RHCP were a band.

They are great musicians. I really loved These Are The Ways from the record released in April. It hurts me to say it: Most of Unlimited Love and this feels to me like they are playing it safe. It's always about expectations, isn't it? When RHCP said John is back I expected a lot. Maybe too much?
@BrandonShere2 жыл бұрын
Honestly I felt the same way at first. You just haven't listened to it enough :P My uncle played it in the car, and did a great job at making me aware there is so much more going on than I initially had thoughts. A lot of the beginnings of the songs don't keep me that entertained, but I later realized that the reason is because they're all building. John goes insane structurally in the majority of the songs. You're bound to be blown away in the second half of the songs by either insane builds, bridges, harmonies, etc! Most great music doesn't sound that great to us the first time because our brains have to process it first. Because it's so different. They tend to have that effect with every album really, then it hits you the more you listen.
@EricNeuls2 жыл бұрын
That simple second piece that you pointed out after the fun part you like feels like call back to their song Funky Monks I think. Just the way it sounds sort of.
@iliketrains34952 жыл бұрын
Not totally all over this song, but it's solid enough. Not sure how yet another double album is gonna turn out given I thought Unlimited Love was a little bloated, but I guess the fact they've been so productive since Frusciante returned proves that he is the rightful guitarist of the band. Even if I thought The Getaway was better than Unlimited Love.

I think, with Josh Klinghoffer they moved forward with hole sound and approach, especially on last album with him. It surprised me a bit, because I didnt expect much from them.With Frusciante back, it looks like they decide to do "old vibe" or how to call it. Not so hyped about this song. Nice groove, but a bit empty too my ears.

@@antonimihailov8046 And Im saying that as a fan of Frusciante. Part of that could be also Rick Rubin back as producer. Funny thing is that, as far as I know, it was Frusciante back in the day, who was frustrated about making each record with Rubin and wanted someone else. But also, they grew up together and wrote ton of hits (john and the band). Not so surprised they took him back once he wanted. But Josh did a great job! And boy, imagine that presure, being part of such famous band. He did more than good.

I'm a luke warm fan of the peppers, but I really like the sound of this, the drum mix is smoother then usual, normally he uses a high tuned cracking snare, much more warmth equed into this one, lower tuned, and restrained, kick, toms, sweet, and there's some lovely finessing goin on with his playing, marrys really nicely with Flea's bass, funky ass rhythm section, sound similar to previously released stuff, but I was head boppin to this, 2 thumbs up

I was a fan from the late 80s to the early 90s. Finally saw them in 92 or so. Shortly after (during that tour) Frusciante left and I lost all interest in them. They have done the same song ever since in different variations. I like that they got funkier again and ditched that lalalalalala pop songs. I am going to give this new album a listen.
