My updated results as of Nov 2019 ✨ It’s nice to see them narrowing down more on African roots since before it was quite generalized. Ethnicity Estimate: Nigeria 31% Cameroon, Congo & Southern Bantu Peoples 24% England, Wales & Northwestern Europe 13% Mali 11% Benin & Togo 8% Senegal 4% Ireland & Scotland 4% Germanic Europe 2% Sweden 2% Greece & the Balkans 1% Additional Communities: Early Virginia African Americans The Carolinas, Maryland & Virginia African Americans Upstate & North Central South Carolina African Americans

Typically when you have "Early Virginia African American" that means your family ancestry might have been living in North America possibly several hundred years BEFORE the British North Atlantic Slave Trade started.

Your numbers add up to 78% sub-Saharan African & 22% European. So, 3/4 black & 1/4 white. The 1/4 white is split into 1/8 English & 1/8 a mix of other European. You could have an English great-grandparent, or two of your GGPs could have been 1/2 English & 1/2 European. Nice that you have about 14 different groups of ancestors! I have one! LOL.

@@seanharris8419 there is no biological benefit to being white. It's a life threatening genetic mutation as can clearly be seen fro the CDC data for melanoma skin cancer that white people contract at 25 times the rate of black Americans and the most common form of skin cancer basal cell carcinoma that white people contract at 70 the rate of black people. And NO, black people do not have any problems synthesizing vitamin D in their skin, that's another white lie and has been know to be a lie since at least 2013 but still gets repeated: www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2013/11/20/246393329/how-a-vitamin-d-test-misdiagnosed-african-americans

@@f19ure you are wrong. The woman in your video link was simply visibly disappointed that a company called 'African Ancestry.com' couldn't find her African ancestry due to the limitations of one of their tests that she paid "Hundreds of dollars" for when any other less specialized tests that cost around $100 would clearly show that she's got around 80-85% African DNA and only 15-20% European as they test for nuclear DNA, not just mitochondrial DNA. But she already knew that, all African Americans already know that, she says as much here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nmbYkJ2Kr9yVgpI Don't take my word for it about the limitations of the specific mitochondrial DNA test she took, here's both an explanation from a geneticist and an admission from the owner of African Ancestry.com admitting as much on a US current affairs show: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m3ynlmhpa6-sjK8 Surely, she has every right to want to find out which subdivision of Africa she originates from and be proud of it, just like Irish Americans know which subdivision of Europe they are from and are proud of it without being classed as being anti-African: www.amerirish.com She definitely wasn't disgusted that she's got European DNA like a lot of the white racists are trying to make out and you can see her mood improve after she'd spoken to her mother and got some more family history that added value to what was to her up until then a result of limited information for her money spent trying to find her African ancestry: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nmbYkJ2Kr9yVgpI She seemed quite happy after her Mother had filled in some details and she no longer felt as cheated by getting an ambiguous result that she could have guessed herself, i.e. that she was part European. She seems perfectly happy here now that she finally gets it even though she’s talking about the European DNA that the white racists claim she hates: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nmbYkJ2Kr9yVgpI She knows that the test is imperfect and that any other test would also show her African lineage which is why she says this near the end. She gets it so why can't any of the white people in any of the comments sections they are harassing her on get it?: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nmbYkJ2Kr9yVgpI The mitochondrial test wasn't able to show very much detail about her, simply because of a coincidence caused by the location of the white ancestor in her particular lineage in relation to the inbuilt limitations of the test. She took the wrong test but she wasn't to know and couldn’t have know before taking the test. It not the test's fault, it's not her fault, it's just a coincidence. Most other descendants of the same white woman and black man would register African DNA as well as European DNA on this exact same test and they wouldn't have looked so surprised or upset on their version of the same sort of results reveal video. I'm sorry but it's just not about you and you're people, you are inserting yourselves into the situation for reasons unknown. She was upset about wasting money on a test that didn't explain to her beforehand that due to it's limitations, it might not be able to find her African ancestry that she had every right to try and find.

starfisher87 - The comments aren't hateful. She is over 80% AFRICAN, yet she is emphasizing the tiny bit of WHITE. Every black person knows that if our families have been in America for more than 2 generations, we are NOT pure African. The DNA test is for those who's families have depended on being lighter skinned or having keen features or manageable hair that they CLAIM comes from being more white than other blacks, but that's not true. There are blacks on KZbin with wide noses, darker skinand thicker hair whose test results were pretty much like this gals:80%+ black and a little white.

I will never deny that I am Black! That said increasingly the number of Black and Brown people on these boards are finding out that the slave narrative is no longer true especially if you were born after 1960! Until I got my DNA, I was looking for my bio parents whom I thought were Black! My DNA test proved other wise: one parent is biracial and my grandmother is European! That means on one side of my family, I will be looking for my Black family and on the other side I will be looking for my Black, White and mixed family! Knowing this just blows my mind and I hope my relatives want to see me. One thing I have found out about that period is that many white mothers were forced to give up their mixed children which is the opposite of what they teach us! I am not delusional about a happy homecoming! That said common racial stereotypes have hindered me from finding my family. Everyone has a different story. Not all Blacks were slaves especially those living in the North. Therefore, it is time to let go of all the hate because it is prohibiting many from finding their families!

J Moore a lot of people think that they are one thing then find out they're something else. Take for instance a white racist finds out they have a high percentage of African blood. Or a black racist person finds out they have European blood. Or a white person who thinks they are Italian finds out they are Irish or German! These may seem like no big deal to you but for some this can be devastating. It could mean someones parents are not really their biological parents. What a surprise!

I'm white too , although the English would have not said that in the 1800's through certain places in England even in the 1970's because i'm Irish . I have had some English tell me that i was not white even though as far as pigmentation i was lighter than most of the morons telling me . I'm Irish so you can see where the prejudice from the English came from . Anyway , i'm white and quite content to be so though apparently that is not cool to say these days, but being Irish i say what i think and fuck the politically correct . So , happy enough to be white because i was born white , but i don't understand why so many people are desperately taking these bullshit tests as they are not *fully* conclusive nor are they detailed that much . Be happy about who you are as you do not need anyone nor a dna test to feel good about yourself and i would not take one of these tests just on principal . And , yes , i was going to say your surname , Kelly , if that is your maiden name and not your husbands last name if you have one , would suggest that you have Irish blood if the name is anything to go by . And not that you are adopted as i can see that you are not , but someone could have a surname / last name from adoptive parents so the last name is not always a good guide to go by . If this test made you feel better then i am happy for you , but things like this can sometimes leave you with more questions than providing conclusive answers . Like i said be happy about who you are it has to last you a lifetime and you know now that these tests only provide an outline and nothing in-depth . It is a generalisation of your background at best and not zoning in one you as a individual person

I love DNA testing. My results were so surprising. My dads family always claimed to be white. I knew something wasn’t right because my great grandmother Lena was a beautiful darker woman. The claim was she’s Italian. My DNA test showed that I’m 18% African & 24% Native American. I researched my family tree & discovered she was almost exclusively African & Native Cherokee. Also found other forefathers with the same history throughout my dads side. They’re called Melungeon in the Appalachia mountain region. History has been hidden & denied due to social pressures & I think it’s time to reveal. I’ve discovered some wonderful & proud things about my forefathers (& not so wonderful). One of my Melungeon forefathers hid & helped others during the mass migration of the Trail of Tears. What a brave, right, & beautiful endeavor. It really opens your eyes to the struggles our country has endured. I completely endorse doing a family tree as well. It gets difficult at times due to wars & record loss but the info is there & lots of people to help. I ended up finding a 3rd cousin who is a state genealogist while trying to find my great grandmother, Lena’s records. Happy hunting!!

Lisa Scott in my family, there were mostly marriages. Found documents showing a lot of it. A lot of my family were the earliest settlers & apparently they weren’t afraid to marry Natives & I know that Natives accepted Africans without reservation. I think there were probably times in my family history where it was slavery induced biracial births, some were slave owners; but there’s also a large swath who just intermingled with various cultures. I do think it was a bit more acceptable till around 1800’s when tensions for land expansion & slave resources increased considerably & sadly.

Tfw people take your KZbin title too seriously and try to prove to you that they know their colors lmfao TECHNICALLY you're brown if we're going to talk about colors of the human species but ethnically, you're African, European, and a teeny tiny bit Asian. Embrace and have fun with your new information! Just because you're 1/4 European doesn't make you any less you. Imagine if people ran around telling biracial children that they're only one ethnicity because they don't look like the other ethnicity... Oh wait, people already do that.

riot774 Not so fast! The billion or so Africans DO KNOW who the hell they are! Being African means being indigenous to the Continent of Africa! One is African if ones lineage/ancestors are traced to the Continent of Africa. By "no one can say", you mean YOU! YOU are that one who "can't say" who is African! lol

marcus24000 so are saying the climate of Africa was different.. please tell me who else could have lived there and where is your proof that any other race lived there..the point I was making is to call us black vs African or what ever the original name of Africa was is silly because our skin tone varies from very dark to very light. But let me set some thing straight the reason why African people get upset when our own act like there is some thing wrong with being black is because white have tried to establish that being white is some how better and many of the weak Africans(people)would prefer to be anything other than black/African . It’s not good enough to just be they have to find something else in them...i chose to defend her because she didn’t really say she wasn’t African, but if she doesn’t want to be that is fine I believe in a few years we will be in a position to control the narrative and the truth of who we are will change and those who refuse to accept the African will have to account for it.
@riot774
@riot774 6 жыл бұрын
nirbija I can see what I wrote is above you so let me narrow it a little for you you read a book or watched a vid like every one else and have to accept what is taught to be truth like MANY HAVE...I consider myself to be African the point I was making is we are called black and black is a definitive color how can we be called black when we span ever shade. I have no problem with being call/ or being of the dark or the black race I wear it proud but the wise thing would be to call us Africans Or a word that say we aren’t pale but is inclusive of the varying skin tone.
@nirbija
@nirbija 6 жыл бұрын
Your imagined 'definitive color' is comprised of a RANGE of wave lengths. This range of wave lengths give rise to different shades. Africans ARE of black pigmentation. Black represents a range of shades. And of all the prominent colors, those shades indigenous to African Continent are best represented 'color' black. Hence, Black people/African. Hence representing Africans by the blackness of the pigmentation is reasonable; because that quality of an object which is most impacting on the sense of sight, is generally used to represent the object. That you are African, good for you. This means that you traced your most ancient and wooly-haired Ancestors as originating on the African Continent.

Egypt is in Africa too. The very earliest ones were white or Mediterranean area people and mixed with tribes there. They found white people about 12k years old in the US. People got around. Maybe lost on a boat and survived the journey. Who knows? Also, French tools from that time were found on the east coast. I'm sure people migrated the Bering sea bridge before it was covered in water. Theories and I love archeology. If you saw nothing but ice during the ice age, I'm sure you'd keep going to find better weather and food. The Inuit stuck around I guess and others headed south and probably became the tribes we know of today throughout the Americas. I think a mini ice age could be heading to my area. Cooler summers and longer winters. And rain, rain, rain. 3 days without rain is a drought now. Lol Grand Solar Milinium now.

I find it interesting that you noted your African ancestors not appearing in North America until the 1850s-1860s, since the importation of slaves was outlawed by those states in 1807. (Slavery remained the law until 1865. of course, but no new slaves could be important. Just the ones that were already here, and their children.) Which means, if your ancestors arrived from Africa sometime between 1850 and 1860, they weren't slaves.
@kingfemmo
@kingfemmo 6 жыл бұрын
Chef Jack Geeks Out , just because the importation of Africans for slavery may have been outlawed in a region circa 1807, that doesn't mean the importation of such Africans ended at that time. In fact, there's documented proof of 115 west Africans being illegaly brought to the USA in 1860 aboard a ship called Clotilde. Those Africans, believed to have been brought from the area in Africa currently called Benin, were subsequently enslaved and labored near what is now Mobile, Alabama. Upon being freed, they later founded what is called Africatown. The last of them, known as Cudjo, passed away in about 1935.

It isn't about racial makeup. It's about the need to have some understanding of our forebears. It takes a mind that considers far more deeply than some, what came before us...about who came before us...to understand why we are the way we are. If you are able to get some stories and specifics from your older aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents about those who have passed on, it can be very eye opening when you find that you are not the first in your line to have similar thoughts, goals and dreams. I hope you are able to go back to those in your family who have memories or family lore going even farther back. It deepens something inside you about your role in the world. It will also give your children a gift that they too will one day appreciate. Don't let it end here. Keep digging. Blessings!

The culture you grew up in is your “native culture”. Your native country is the one you were born in. Your genes have nothing to do with that. If you want to learn a language or culture, just do it. You don’t need a DNA analysis to justify doing it. Define your identity by what you do and why, not your genes or a demographic definition. Irish Catholics, whilst not undergoing the horrors of slavery, did undergo penal transportation and indentured servitude in large numbers (before the split with Britain), and then further waves of immigrants underwent strong discrimination by the Protestant majority in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
