Forgot about the lore on the TCG cards. But there hasn't been much in the new cards. The old cards had some.

I've read Archon quests, world quests, artifacts and most items descriptions. I'm missing some books and even then I tend to remember some things wrong sometimes. . Now add to this the fact that the lore gets changed / rewritten due to Irminsul shenanigans, I just lost it. . At that moment I just gave up updating my cork board (also ran out of red thread) and decided to better update myself through more dedicated people. . I still read tho, but as an average lore consumer, sometimes I do need an extra push to get updated in the most obscure topics and how they connect between them.

Its so fun to connect everything but it quickly gets so overwhelming to keep up with being thorough (like listing out arguments, cultural reference and proofs) I don’t try to remember everything anymore but i do keep an archive with all the info for each theory i make. Its still fun, but tiring.

Hi Aster! I'd like to see what results would look like if you networked with creators outside the lore community to promote the survey. There may be an issue with your sample. The AR parameter isn't necessarily a metric of a "type" of Genshin player; it's a metric of the time they've spent in the game. In addition to that, lore players will generally have higher adventure ranks than non-lore players. For instance, players that never play story quests or character story quests will not have earned the adventure rank experience for those story quests. I feel there are better metrics to use. However, given that the sample you used is already familiar with the results you found initially, it may scew the results if they were to take it again. For that reason, the best course of action from here would be to use the same survey for the larger sample. A larger sample results in a regression toward the mean, afterall - and this is meant to be a survey of "average" players to determine if and what they read. In addition, and this may be asking too much, I'd like to see you compare different data points: "Players that said X also said Y." For instance, do players that only get their lore knowledge from secondary sources also claim they are confident that they are very knowledgeable about the game? That specific comparison would go a long way toward determining the efficacy of the hypothesis that "Genshin players don't read." If that hypothesis is correct, you should also see a correlation between players that say they read all the lore and players that say they aren't confident in their knowledge of the game. After all, the more knowledge you have on a subject, the more aware you are of just how much you don't actually know.

I think one general nuance you're missing here is "How often do people read?" So say you're asking "Do you play story quests?" Most people will answer yes, because yes they will at least play 1 or 2 or half of the storyquests because they like the character, but not all of them. Maybe they'll leave like 1-6 storyquests untouched for later, because they don't have the time yet. or maybe because they're saving content for later. Also there's the thing between reading and "reading". Example: I bet a lot of people don't remember much about Aranyaka, because not only the Aranara speak in riddles, but also because there's this wave of "rushing the quest" when it first came out. So the combination of tiredness + difficulty to understand really muddled people's attention. So yeah, I think adding quiz-bee at the end that is meant to test them would have been fine. Just keep it easy and obvious, something people who read just generally knows: Example: "In Ei Storyquest 1, what kind of food did Ei try for the first time?" -> it's dango milk. This part is relatively famous. or "In Furina Storyquest 1, it is revealed that Furina barely knows how to cook, and she basically only knows how to cook 1 food. What food is that?" -> it's macaroni. come now, who don't know this? or "What is the name of Baizhu's snake?" -> who doesn't know Changsheng? Something like that. Something that we know to be really famous between Genshin fans, but it still counts as a trivia. Just add the option "I haven't played this part of the game/I don't remember" as the 4th option.

Awesome idea, but I’d say “haven’t played” and “don’t remember” should be two separate choices.

I mean: people forget all the time. when I'm loring, I forget, too. when that happens, I need to watch youtube vids, or at the minimum open wikia or ambr or honeyhunter to read the quest again. that's why I suggested questions that are easy. Things that... well, people won't forget once they find out. and even if they forget it will keep getting repeated in jokes both in-game and irl.

Other than that: I think your little research is already top notch. It follows proper methodology, and it asked relatively important questions. So really. This is Good Job from you.

i’m really glad you emphasize the important of primary sources, i was looking for interesting yt theories and i was seeing videos of people unironically saying that the primordial one, heavenly principles and celestia as a whole are the good guys. those who pay any attention to the lore know that celestia’s rule is doubted by everyone, soverigns and archons included, and there’s plenty of accounts regarding their war crimes that are the nails and vanessa’s ascension looked more like an imprisonment. it’s important to point out because genshin is incredibly open for theory making and reading the lore yourself usually creates a much more informed perspective, even if you agree with your fav youtuber you will probably notice something they missed if you look into the lore yourself, since the game makes so many cross references that it’s impossible to keep track of all of them

Hm you don't need the context for most things in Genshin. The main story is not really tied to the lore of the game, you do not need ancient german folklore to appreciate Mondstadt. It does however enhance your experience. What is required is a basic understanding of philosophy it does not mean you have to read source material for each philosopher. But the belief system in Genshin is much closer to early renaissance than modern times. Such beliefs include Dualism - the belief that the soul and the body exist as two separate entities
